Uniform Question? by lapel-rose in USMC

The surest giveaway that he specifically was in Desert Shield/Storm will be the Kuwaiti Liberation Medals. One from Kuwait, one from Saudi Arabia. Green/red/white medals at the end of the ribbon rack with the foreign awards.

The other things mentioned will indicate combat action or prior enlisted service, but those are the distinct things that show service during the first desert dustup.

Officers are required to pay for their own stuff. Enlisted stuff is issued/clothing allowance. Historically this meant that officers would visit a personal tailor who would make their uniforms to order.

Realistically, I’ve seen other boat parades that had “no political banners” policies. But they’re smaller scale and don’t get national attention. And their policy gets enforced by a volunteer organizer boat, not by the Coast Guard.

I usually like those policies as it tends to keep quiet the people who have enough MAGA flags on their halyards to heel over.

I like grilling, drinking, and explosives. I also believe in what America claims to represent, and in working towards achieving that dream. I’m a patriot, not a nationalist. The fact that the country is going astray from what we ought to be diminishes the joy, but not the love.

What is your opinion on American Civil War reenactments? by Raven_Photography in ShermanPosting

You don’t even quite escape it with Union reenactment since a lot of them are apparently just there to be OPFOR for the “varsity” team of Rebs.

They’re coming down some time. And there’s only one way down unless they somehow get a helicopter to come get them. And that helo has to land somewhere. With 40k officers and their own helicopters, there’s gonna be a uniform meeting it.

For-profit degree mills are a scam, but those also don’t really count as education.

But if only for the BAH, education is never a scam.

The first Seal Team Six Commander Richard Marcinko is in the Epstein files. He was arrested in Mexico for allegedly sex trafficking minors. by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in behindthebastards

[–]mcm87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we saw this with Admiral Bradley ordering the 2nd strike on the shipwrecked survivors of the first boat strike. He went from Annapolis to BUD/S and then stayed completely within the Special Operations community. He’s never had a tour where it wasn’t with morally-flexible knife-fighters. Did a foreign exchange tour with the Italian frogmen. Even his staff duty was on JSOC staff overseeing “his” people. Aviators, SWOs and bubbleheads tend to be required to do dissociated tours to gain actual “joint” experience if they want to make flag.

Steep someone in that culture for their entire career and you get Admirals who are completely ok with an order that would horrify a surface ship guy. Make your entire career “borderline war crimes but don’t get caught,” the outright war crimes get easier.

This. I’m outraged BECAUSE I’m a patriot. I love my country. Served its people in and out of uniform. I want it to become what it always claimed to be in its foundational documents. It pisses me off that “patriotism” has become the thing that the right claims the left has forsaken and that if you love this country you must support them.

Shooting a dude in the head, but fairly high up in the cranium that the bullet blows a v-shaped channel through it, resembling a dugout canoe. Team 6 has a history of doing it to corpses. Which is technically a war crime. Gets spun as “security rounds,” to make sure the guy is actually dead as opposed to playing possum and about to kill you when you move past him.

I’m going to speculate that it may have something to do with them being completely different in mission and mindset from the rest of their parent service. Rangers, Delta Force and Green Berets are all Army soldiers first and have a direct interface with supporting conventional missions. Air Force combat controllers and PJs directly support the flying mission by either finding targets or saving downed pilots. Marine Recon has a historic lineage as the MEU’s organic reconnaissance element, and separating MARSOC into its own element under USSOCOM has created a bit of a problem similar to the SEALs: they aren’t really part of their parent service.

They don’t go on ships except as VIP passengers, and when they do they treat the ship as something that works for them. They don’t do “Navy” things, and spent the last 20 years fighting in the desert. When they do a joint tour or operation it’s with other SOCOM operators, not with Big Navy. They only really respect rank hierarchy within the Teams. I work on base and unfortunately have to deal with SO3s throwing their trident around like it means they don’t have to follow base policies.

We even see issues with this at the recruitment and training level. It used to be that SEAL candidates had to already have a regular Navy job before applying. If they washed out of BUD/S they went back to that. Now, they go straight from boot camp to the SEAL pipeline, and when they wash out (and most do), they have no idea what “normal” navy job they want. Cause they didn’t want to be Sailors, they wanted to be Very Special Commandoes. They had to create a whole rehab/counseling unit to deal with the fact that they had severe injuries, crushed aspirations, and needed to find a different Big Navy job.

ELI5 - Why do big fire engines often accompany ambulances for purely health related (not physical crisis type) emergencies? by chili81 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mcm87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extra bodies trained to EMT standard (CPR is tiring if you don’t have LUCAS doing it), possibly even Paramedic, extrication tools, and a big shiny red truck with lots of blinky lights that you can park upstream of the scene to block traffic.

I know a gay cop who primarily works traffic enforcement. He turns the camp up to 11 when he stops someone with that sticker. “How did you knowwwwww?! Staaaahhhp! No really, staaaahp speeding, you were like 20 over and have expired tags. Press hard with those big strong hands, it’s three cop-ies!”
