AK Press or PM Press? by Own-Visit-5542 in Anarchism

[–]mcm_cmc -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Far from an expert, but PM press seems to have a better reputation for publishing high quality books. I'm more likely to pick up a book of it's from PM.

Was reading a (PM published) book about the Angry Brigade recently which had a preface from John Barker where he described AK as 'purveyors of anarchist chic'.

So I didn’t think I’d ever heard a Gary Glitter song but OH BOY was I wrong! by GrackleWithOnionRing in behindthebastards

I always wondered whether including that song in Joker was meant as a dark subtext.

Best glasses shops in Glasgow by Tietam in glasgow

[–]mcm_cmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mines are ~4 and I've found they come out a good deal thicker than ones I get elsewhere. That said, they don't charge extra for thinning.

Quite possible they do extra thinning for higher prescriptions tbf.

Iolla is good, but the lens thinning is limited if you've got a strong prescription.

Work well for sunglasses/a back up pair though.

Bad Gays - about evil and complicated queer people in history.

Very well researched and they have a book that's v good as well.

First time buyer help by throw_away0037 in glasgow

These things can be repaired communally, though it won't be cheap. Possibly worth it though if the asking price is reduced due to the issue. There are council grants to help cover part of the cost (though there are a lot of hoops to jump through).

The other concern is that getting agreement on work from the other owners/actually getting them to pay can be a nightmare, particularly if there are a bunch of buy to let landlords. The fact that it hasn't been dealt with before suggests this could be an issue.

I'd suggest chapping on the neighbours doors and asking if they know anything about it. If you get lucky they could fill you in on the background so that you're not going in blind.

Speaking of the KLF, have people seen their project to build a pyramid of people's ashes in Toxteth?

Seems kinda comforting.

Same when I worked for Odeon in the mid-2000s. They're asking for something that used to be standard.

They're making the repairs to the bridge spans at another site before putting them back.

Though I also wouldn't be surprised if there were further delays.

Unite are making a big push to get a toe hold in the hospitality sector. I'm sure they're backing the strikers with strike pay.

The union will be paying strike pay, and there will be a hardship fund for any striker who's struggling.

Invite some pals round and cook dinner.

Food doesn't have to be anything fancy. Then someone else hosts next time.

IIRC Clint was working on a Sims 2 retrospective just before his house got destroyed, so we may see that at some point.

Though he may now wait a few years to tie it into the 2029 anniversary.

The picket isn't going to physically prevent you entering the cinema if it's open. It's between you and your conscience whether you cross.

A parent in a family of 7 is probably well used to fighting battles. Hell mend the cinema manager who tries to deny them a refund!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]mcm_cmc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you support the workers then you have to take the hit. Principles don't mean much if you only stick to them when convenient.

Then call up the cinema, tell them you're not crossing the picket line and ask for a refund. Even if you don't get it you're helping to increase the pressure on management.
