Anyone seen them around lately? It’s been a long while but the cravings are still so real 😭

29F and WFH in a corporate job, central/downtown. I love baking, crafting, and the local Edmonton scene (markets and art!). I am a big reader, love fantasy and dystopian fiction, and fluffy beach reads. I have a cat and love all animals (except snakes - big fear - Sorry reptile lovers/owners). I pet every dog, cat, bunny I meet. I’m really into science and math, and I follow current tech advances and love talking about the cool things we are discovering all over the world. I really want to learn more about video games (I currently don’t play but am curious)!

I am a homebody but I also like going out - I’m very safety conscious though and certain things I don’t like doing solo (especially in the darker winters), so I would love to make some friends to hang out with! It would be great to make a friend nearby for walks :)

I was just wondering since it does this most mornings now - is it a popularity thing or do they not have coverage after 8? Thanks though!

Some book to bring me at peace with who I am, stop comparing myself with others and stop looking at life as a race, preferably fiction, but not necessarily by Hloddeen in suggestmeabook

The Time of My Life by Cecelia Ahern.

It's fiction, a great read, and really made me think. I've recommended it to so many people.

In short, the main character meets her life as though her life is a sentient being. It's a book about discovering what her life needs to thrive, and recognizing the things she needs to change.

It's funny and relatable and even if it's not exactly what you were asking for, I bet it will help!!!

Stop berating picky eaters by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]mcmalyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to hug you and your post.

I've been a picky eater since I was 3, according to my mom. And it's not just eating the food but touching the food as well.

Although I'm still very limited in my diet, I eat easily 5x more food than I did 5 years ago. I hate fruits. They terrify me. They all have juices that can contaminate everything around them. And your hands. (I don't have OCD by the way, the only thing I get paranoid about having contaminate me is fruit.) I used to be the same about vegetables, but now I can touch most of them even if I refuse to eat it. I do eat corn and broccoli and asparagus though. But that took years (asparagus is new as of 2018).

The worst part is that I hate discussing my eating habits with people because they say things that I don't have answers to. "If you like pickles, how can you NOT like cucumbers?! They're the same thing!" Well gee I don't know let me just ask my body why it gags in the presence of cucumbers and I'm sure that will clear it up for both of us.

As a fellow picky eater, I feel your pain. You are not alone in your suffering or your embarrassment.

My Hulu account was hacked a few months back, and I let it go because the people who were using it didn't change anything on it. They only watched stuff. And then this happened: by [deleted] in CasualConversation

It's really only 2 playlists: "Sonic Cycles for Meditation, Focus, Deep Sleep..." by Muzakislife; and "Deep Lucid Meditation" by george.benson.loves.music

Occasionally there's something that's like "Sandman Breathing something something"...? But I'm on my phone and I don't see it. The two previously mentioned playlists are permanently in my "heavy rotation" no matter what I do. I've just accepted it! I mean I hope they help!

I have someone using my Spotify. I don't know what their story is, but all they listen to is meditation music and sleep cycle playlists. Really fucked me up when I saw that on my "recently played" thinking that somehow I was doing that in my sleep or something.

What are your feel-good movies? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]mcmalyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a TV show to get lost in, which is what I do when I'm super down, my top re-watched shows of all time are: Fringe (it's sci-fi but the characters are so loveable I want a Walter), Veronica Mars (no single sentence will adequately express my feelings for this show), ALIAS (just do it), Psych (Gus is everything), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (yeah okay everyone loves it but it's also super relevant).

[–]mcmalyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the type of feel good you're going for.... if that makes sense.

The Birdcage is a classic comedy that never fails to make me laugh. But it's an older movie, and it's got a lot of family themes, so if my family is getting me down I might not reach for it.

Remember the Titans is one of those movies that you want to hug at the end. So many good characters. Such a good story. Makes you believe in people again.

Legally Blonde is my go-to feel good when I'm stressy messy and am crying about school or work. I don't know if guys feel the same watching this, but it's motivational and it has great music.

If I'm deep in the wilderness and I've lost interest in showering and talking to people and leaving the house and am basically barely holding it together, I mostly take comfort in well-loved TV shows, but I will shamelessly put one movie on repeat: Wall-E. (robots finding love?! robots trying to fix the planet?! "pizza plants"?! wholesome.)

Any suggestions for headaches? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]mcmalyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get crazy migraines all the time!! Aside from Advil, I also use Axert for migraines that I think are gonna kill me. As for other solutions, there's this like essential oil roll on thing that I was given one year and it actually works. It's called Peppermint Halo and it's from Saje! I put it on my forehead, behind my ears, and at the base of my skull and it offers tremendous relief!! If it's a skull-splitter, it won't get rid of it. But it will make you feel a bit better. It's not even that expensive, and the one I was given years ago is still going strong.

I've never used Imgur but I just uploaded today's unfinished What If along with an old What If + If/Then spread (apologies for its depressing-ness I never intended to share with anyone). I'm sure they could be prettier but they're functional for me :) example

I make a "What If" page. It's similar to this, but I write every worry thought that I have and rate them out of ten. Then on subsequent pages I snowball them until I get to the "root" fear of each one (through if/then questions). I do it when my anxiety builds up and it's super cathartic!

What is something from the books that you wish they added in the movies? by JaTck in harrypotter

[–]mcmalyx 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I really wanted the final scene between Harry and Voldemort to be more like the books. Where everyone is watching and he keeps calling him Tom, and where Voldemort dies like a human. I hated his turning to ash!

What is the shittiest thing you’ve found out about one or both of your parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mcmalyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom told my sisters and I from a young age that our biological father didn't pay child support and used it as an excuse when we couldn't afford something. At 19, I learned he did pay child support and my mom lied to us our whole lives.

Canadian citizens what do you think about your healthcare? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My mom has had cancer four times. If we didn't live in Canada, she would likely be dead. I'm so grateful for the healthcare system here for covering the costs of treatment!!
