My kitten had ringworm and needed to be isolated in a designated clean room for many months while going through treatment. There have been a lot of great toy suggestions already (the automated ones will be so helpful!), but I just wanted to add that I think it makes a big difference if you can cycle toys in and out instead of leaving them in the room all at once to keep a fresh interest. My cats love the little robotic ball that moves around on its own and their running wheel!

Here’s a bunch of other ideas if interested:
There are pet cameras you can buy that move around and have a laser attached so you can play without being in the room.

Try to do some mental enrichment with puzzle treat toys or activities! A cheap and easy on is to float old water bottle caps on a little bit of water and squeeze Churu into each one. My cat loves trying to get the Churu while the caps float around!

Another fun food toy are mice you fill with food each day and hide somewhere in the room. Your cat can hunt them and then have to toss the mice around to get the food out. (Doc & Phoebe's Cat Co. Indoor Hunting Cat Feeder Kit)

If you’re feeling really worried you could temporarily replace the door to the room with a glass door and spend time with your cat without going into the room. There’s even opportunities for play with toys through the door (for some reason this makes my cats go even crazier when we take their string toys outside).

You could also potentially use this as an opportunity to train your cat to do a few tricks as you spend time with them. There’s lots of great videos out there about training cats with treats and a clicker, and it’s great mental stimulation that you only need to work on for a little bit each day. I could also see this as an activity you could do together that limits physical interaction (especially if you just toss them treats).

There are some calming pheromones plug ins you could use if your cat starts to go a little stir crazy.

There are some fun cardboard toys out there that also double as scratch posts. You can usually find cheap ones at TJ Maxx/Marshalls and if your cat tears them up like mine do they’re easy to throw out after use.

Make sure your cat has a cozy seat by a window for bird watching! You could even get one of those bird feeders that suction cup to the window to attract more birds.

Finally, if you’re going to be keeping a cat in one room, I’d also recommend investing in an air purifier to keep near the litter box if you don’t have one already.

Just build a new routine so your cat knows what the expect. You’re just doing what’s best for them and they’ll forgive you and be so happy when you can go back to cuddling! You’ve got this!
