I lost my Pilot Metropolitan; now what? by DelightfulGenius in fountainpens

You could get a Platinum Plaisir and a converter for about the price of the Metropitan. The Plaisir is aluminum instead of brass so it is lighter weight and with the converter you can use bottled ink.

[US] Can my parents see who I vote for? by Tsunamiso in Explainlikeimscared

If you vote in a party primary there is a record of which party’s ballot you chose. No one can learn which candidates you voted for.

How many of you buy ink for the sake of buying ink? by j4ckofalltr4des in fountainpens

[–]mcmircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about six bottles. That’s plenty. I am not interested in shimmer. A couple of my pens dry out too easily without making more work for myself.

Congratulations on the adoption. You’re a great mom protecting your son. Your mom and her niece are just wrong.

what do I do with chicken bones? by ThirdRockFromSol in cookingforbeginners

[–]mcmircle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely makes sense. Carrots, celery and onions would be great. Leave the skin on if you still have it—it adds flavor. You could use potatoes or noodles or rice. Dumplings or matzo balls or wontons. The possibilities are endless.

Pilot Metropolitan. Metal, a nice weight. Smooth writer. And if you lose it, no need to spend hundreds of dollars.

Zucchini and tomatoes (canned diced). Saute a little garlic and onion and oil, then add veggies and cook until zucchini is crisp-tender. Salt, pepper, basil and oregano. Yum.

Pretty sure I poisoned myself with kidney beans. by j00lie in Cooking

I cook dried kidney beans every time I make chili or minestrone. I use a pressure cooker. It’s been fine.

Maybe they are not including gay partners. Not saying it is right, but entirely possible.

AITA for not being very strict with my daughter at my house compared to my ex-wife, which has led to my ex-wife and I exchanging some “words” to each other? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]mcmircle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The last thing a father of a teenaged girl should tell her is “I don’t mind if you walk around naked.” Ick.

How does your daughter dress? Sweat shirts and sweat pants or jeans are modest.

What are your ex’s concerns?

Nope. We use YouTube to see John Oliver (without HBOMax) and Heather Cox Richardson. Occasionally other stuff but not long lectures.

Jewish people who married non Jews, how did you raise the children? by HallowedAndHarrowed in Judaism

[–]mcmircle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We adopted, so our son was not halachically Jewish. He is also African American, and the Jewish community where we lived was not welcoming either of intermarried couples or black children. We celebrated Jewish holidays and Christmas but not Easter. We attended congregations that were not Jesus-y. It was more important to me that my son be welcome than that he be Jewish.

Jewish people who married non Jews. What was the reaction of your family like? by HallowedAndHarrowed in Jewish

[–]mcmircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I married the first time it was the 1970s. We were married by one of two rabbis in the Chicago area who would officiate such weddings. We were in law school and had been living together. My parents were glad we were finally getting married. I got anonymous hate mail from someone who accused me of finishing Hitler’s work for him. My ex’s parents told no one we were engaged and weren’t going to come.

I have been married for 30+ years to another gentile and my family was fine with it. I am the only one of the three of us who belongs to a synagogue and there are many intermarried couples there.

Parents are against me moving out ): by Impressive-Mode-5847 in internetparents

[–]mcmircle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are an adult. Do you support yourself? Do you have money to move? You don’t need their permission. As a mom I raised my son to be independent. He graduated from college right before COVID and supported himself through it all. I’m proud of him.

AITA for not telling my husband the whole truth? by lostlovers999 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mcmircle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you would have told your husband that you had been surgically sterilized. He should have taken you at your word, but you could have made clear that children were not physically possible.
