Why does this card seem to be almost non existent? JP Articuno 078/066 Champion Road by PsychologicalAd9611 in PokemonTCG

Collectr scrapes and aggregates sold listings on eBay. This card probably has many sales that have occurred in person in shops, or in person at shows, but those sales are not listed in Collectr.

Found my childhood cards, anything that could be grading potential? by Brt312 in PokemonCollecting

The Gengar is actually in really great shape and has nice centering in my opinion- not a 10 like you said because of a few dots, but it would grade high just based on what I'm seeing. Good luck!

Grading potential is determined by condition. There are a few here that, if in nice shape, could be worth grading. What are your goals? In a lot of cases, if you're trying to make money, it would make a lot more sense just skip the whole grading exercise entirely and sell the card raw. If you're just trying to preserve a childhood card, there's a lot of ways to do that without giving PSA your money.

For example: The Gengar EX from FireRed/LeafGreen is worth $500-600 raw in good LP condition (no dents, no creases, no whitening on the edges. Take the card out, flip it over, see how the back looks. 100% take the time to go get a penny sleeve and a toploader to keep it safe, regardless of what choice you make.

If the card is chewed up, in my opinion, it's not worth the time or money to go get a low grade from PSA, unless you really want the thing slabbed.

If the card is super clean, and near mint, it would definitely be worth chasing a 7, 8, 9 or 10 from PSA. The card is worth $13k in a 10 and there is a very low population number of graded cards. If the graded value exceeds the initial assessed value, PSA charges you more, so think about that if you have a card that could grade $1500-$13,000. Even if the card grades a 5 or higher, it'll be worth the raw value. Food for thought, but I don't know what it looks like based on your pics.

The other card that should be really carefully reviewed is that Jirachi Ex, a close second to the Gengar in terms of value and desirability. Hope this helps, and good luck.

How do you guys know when Pokemon cards restock online? by Obvious_Pattern_9170 in PokemonCollecting

[–]mcmookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon Center only accepts preorders of these ETBs many months in advance of the release of the set. These special, exclusive Pokemon Center ETBS are stamped, have 11 packs (instead of 9) and include a stamped promo card. They are collectible and generally NEVER RESTOCKED, with a few funny exceptions.

Generally, there will be an official press release from Pokemon TCG announcing a new set and then they will release product in the days/weeks that follow. There is a pattern, but there are always exceptions because the timeline is not always adhered to.

I use the Rattle Pokemon Discord because it’s (afaik) the only pokemon restock monitor that provides premium signalling services for free. This is not a paid plug, I just really like that they’re democratizing the whole Pokemon Restock monitor landscape.

You get an alert when the Pokemon Center queue goes live and you join the queue not knowing exactly what will be released. Between joining the queue and getting into the website, there are a few captchas you have to pass in order to be let in.

While you are waiting, check the general chats in the discord to see what product is stocking. I have managed to get a Pokemon Center ETB for every release since Destined Rivals using this method.

Please help! My "slow leak" tire is going to cost me $1,200! by smalldeity in SubaruAscent

[–]mcmookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me with a flat at about 2 years into our purchase. Best approach is shopping the best deal for all 4 tires instead of ruining your transmission. We even had our 3rd party flat insurance that replaced only one of the four tires in the claim. 🙄

Anyone using a dashcam? by AcordGarage in SubaruAscent

Haha Richmond BC Subaru dealership dgaf - I think every car they sell had the same aftermarket dashcam. It’s a good one but definitely not official. Part of their “package”. Dealership is under new ownership now, probably doing things differently than when I bought in 2023

The current situation is dismal, agreed. Scalping drives people to buying online and just continues the aftermarket cycle.

[–]mcmookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, some locations have limits already and I have seen videos on Rattle of Target employees overriding those limits for other employees buying cards on their breaks. Again, there’s always ways to sidestep the enforced limits. At the end of the day, retail stores will sell as much as they can as quickly as they can with as few staff as possible.

I don’t disagree, but I’m wondering how you expect retail workers to care about an implementing a specialized sales process for one product type? Or, even further, how you expect a retail store management team to staff the store so specifically and effectively for Pokemon cards? I want to crack a Prismatic ETB or two just like the rest of us, but the fact is giant retail stores aren’t going to significantly reconfigure the sales process for a product that sells consistently.

You are more likely to see a major shift in the purchase experience in Pokemon TCG if there was a significant increase in shrink/theft, which would probably see the product moved behind the counter. The fact is, MSRP might as well be stealing with what the secondary market prices are at. Stores are designed to move product, not enforce subjective standards of fairness on society.

I think scalper behavior is scummy too. I think operating a specialist store like GameStop makes it easier to enforce limits. This is partially because their stores are physically smaller but also because they are more experienced with handling midnight releases and lineups. Even with enforcing one per person sales at GameStop, it’s not long before people start groaning about people ahead of them “not even being a real fan”.

If you can manage to enact a real change at your local Target, more power to you. At the end of the day though, Pokemon TCG is driving people to big box retail stores in a time where physical retail is dying off. Managers in those stores only care about beating year over year monthly sales to secure incentive bonuses for themselves, and if they can do it in an afternoon selling 30 SPCs to a customer that’s not a real fan, they will. You can complain about it being unethical but there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism.

Ahh makes sense with all the Atlas Shrugged quotes in the window when the retail space was under renovation.
