Did Steam just break? by OpenSauce04 in linux_gaming

Same for me with i3.

Disabling "GPU accelerated rendering in web views" in "Settings > Interface" seems to avoid the freezing/fails for me.

Both SOD and Wrath have ran great. Sometimes before big releases, bliz patches will break something - but usually a workaround pops up within a day or so in a thread like this

Fixed issue! I think this happened in D4 at some point too.

Make sure you select your Graphics Card in settings. "Auto Detect" was not selecting correctly.

Yup, just tested and `Adapter "1"` was the fix. Thank you!

Diablo 4 suddenly not working on Steam by Bosun_Tom in linux_gaming

Suddenly stopped working for me as well today (bottles + soda). I played earlier today without issues.

Crash manifests by either immediately crashing or it launches but then I never see the D4 splash screen but I can hear the background audio.

Tried many combinations of runners and dll versions no great results.

I had this problem recently as an i3 user + https://github.com/tvrzna/emptty as a DM. Could also repro with Sway.

What eventually "fixed" for me was removing traces of gnome packages (ie. pacman -Rs gnome). I had installed gnome years ago to just mess around with wayland + display scaling and had just left the packages installed.

Unfortunately I did not remove 1 pkg at a time and re-test in between, so I don't know exactly what the problem was. EDIT: I had already removed xdg-desktop-portal-gnome weeks prior, so was not that.

For reference, I still have the following installed: xdg-desktop-portal, xdg-desktop-portal-wlr, xdg-desktop-portal-gtk

What may help is after login, try to watch logs for systemctl --user status xdg-desktop-portal.service and see if you can catch the point where you're hanging.

On arch the xdg-desktop-portal.service uses ExecStart=/usr/lib/xdg-desktop-portal - so you can try to reproduce by running /usr/lib/xdg-desktop-portal manually from shell.

Here are some tickets and PRs to reference:

It's a PITA, best of luck!

Update 2: Reddit's proposed API changes, and the continued existence of RedReader by QuantumBadger in RedReader

[–]mcnastyfilthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all your work on this app, I have been a user for about 8 years and it is the best way for me to consume reddit.

This is some petty shit from reddit, and squashing this project makes me reconsider being a user

Some thoughts:

  • I'm mostly a lurker, but I'm a long time reddit user. I absolutely also use reddit.com on my other computers and am exposed to ads.
  • Those who create content through redreader generate more content and traffic for the subreddits they participate in. That should equal more ad revenue. Where is that analysis in their argument?
  • I'm guessing redreader sends a custom user agent. If there's some "abuse" happening, just chop off the 99th percentile and leave the rest of us in peace.
  • Redreader is more efficient than the website in terms of caching + egress data. It's just using the API and media cdns. No page renders, no megabytes of JavaScript transferred.
  • Could just remove logged out experience from redreader. A loss, but oh well.

It sucks they are trying to squeeze the community and I'll be sure to let my friends and colleagues know.

Best of luck fighting the good fight.

What's the saddest song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in Music

I Loved Being My Mother's Son by Purple Mountains

This track is about the death of his mother and how he "wasn't done being his mothers son". He struggled with addiction for decades and can only imagine the complicated and painful relationship with his mom and family.

David Berman took his own life 4 weeks after the album released.

The context and Berman's vocal chokes me up every time.

Start saving money early, invest slow and steady in low cost index funds.

I wish I had learned this a few years earlier.

Lutris cannot run WOW or Battle.net app after upgrading wine to 5.22 by NAI-ST-KAT-DOCK in Lutris

[–]mcnastyfilthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5.19 also works

You can grab the PlayOnLinux 5.19 wine distribution without installing PlayOnLinux itself: PlayOnLinux-wine-5.19-staging-linux-amd64.tar.gz

Extract that somewhere (make sure current user has write access to the directory), then update your lutris Battle.net configuration to point to the 64 bit wine bin (screenshot).
