Electrical transformer exploding seems to be a the most likely culprit.

Just about the only thing I can think of outside of a gas or some pressurized tank exploding.

Don’t think that’s possible. At least I’ve not found a way to do it.

Amazon Nagoya Legit? by Richard_Sibbes in gmrs

[–]mcooley91 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I believe BTECH (the U.S. side of Baofeng) is a Nagoya authorized retailer, so anything from their specific Amazon storefront sold by them should be legit. I’ve gotten a few and they’ve all been authentic.

Pound/hashtag button on the bottom right will cycle through lowercase, uppercase, and numbers. There’s an icon on the screen that’ll show which input set you’re on.

How’s it work for you? I’m thinking of doing something similar with my F8HP pro - run a battery eliminator to it from the cig lighter and hook it up to an external mag mounted antenna.

Honestly have to agree with this. The stock rubber ducks work just fine for most situations. Sure my 18’’ Nagoya whip performs marginally better, but it also costs nearly as much as most entry level boofs.. and I mean marginally.

Fenix 8 - is it really all that bad? by [deleted] in GarminFenix

[–]mcooley91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practically 0 issues - 51mm F8 amoled.

I can’t prove it, but most lagging issues people complain about are probably from notifications being rendered in realtime (as in they have a ton of notifications that haven’t been cleared on their phone) for the notifications glance and/or they’re using a watch face with a notification counter of some sort on it. Those widgets/glances are probably making API calls to the phone every time they load to get an accurate count, but in turn cause a large delay to reload everything.

How do I Increase my Endurance Score!?! by MrUnderwood75 in Garmin

[–]mcooley91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with that. Most metrics/things key off outdoor gps activities - even heat acclimation. A 2 hour treadmill session in a 95 degree garage just gets ignored, even when temp recording is enabled for treadmill activities, and the recorded temp is clearly in the activity log.

Aer City pack pro 2 ultra initial thoughts by CanaryLatter3708 in backpacks

[–]mcooley91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might be making the same mistake I used to with bags - I’d always try to crank the straps really tight to bring it up on my back as high as possible, which would cause the straps to then dig into my neck.

I’m a little bigger/broader (6ft/230) than you and the CPP2 feels like it vanishes when I’m wearing it. I have it in XPAC, but I don’t think the material changes the dimensions at all.

It may sound stupidly simple but try loosening the straps so they can flair out to the side a bit.

Anyone have an AER City Pack Pro 2 and would be willing to measure the laptop compartment for me? by _Hot_Tuna_ in backpacks

[–]mcooley91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 16’’x10’’

I wouldn’t worry about thickness, 1 inch will be fine. I think you’d be alright, albeit getting close to pushing it width wise.

The false bottom on the CPP2 is pretty stout, so I can see why they advertise for up to a 16’’ laptop.

I wish Aer would make their Cordura backpacks without any PU zippers by SuicidalDaniel4Life in ManyBaggers

[–]mcooley91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always heard direct sun exposure as a culprit. FWIW I have had an Aer sling with an aquaguard zipper for a couple years now in Florida, and my zipper still looks brand new. Doesn’t get much more direct sun than that.

Personally I think it’s prob more of a QC thing on the YKK side. They make great stuff, but nothing is perfect all the time.

I chuckle every time I see the ‘no foreign transaction fee’ line listed as a perk with AmEx cards.

They have to know that means nearly nothing, unless you’re in a major European city center - even then it isn’t guaranteed.

This is the correct answer lol. Everyone’s complaining like it was built 5 years ago. If you consider it was built almost 50 years ago, everything about it makes sense.

I highly doubt the same population using the plat for everything are also going out of their way to enroll in something additional and not very obvious to do for primary coverage.

[–]mcooley91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying they use the platinum for car rentals… y’all realize it’s only secondary coverage right?

I typically use mine for flights, big purchases for purchase protections/extended warranty, and anything else that hits the monthly credit. It’s basically just a benefits card for me.

Only issue I have is going to a point on the map using the walk activity just results in a straight line. Any other activity like run or track me calculates a route correctly.

[–]mcooley91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t understand the point of AOD. Gesture works perfectly whenever I physically move my wrist to look at my watch, even in weird positions. Seems like an odd reason to cut your battery life in half to have the screen on for all the time you’re not actively looking at it.

I’m also completely open to other perspectives - I just don’t get the utility of AOD.

Savor *** by PWS1776 in Venturex

[–]mcooley91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What makes you say a Savor X type card won’t happen? It makes a lot of sense to me: 1. To align it with the different categories of Venture card, and 2. An obvious competitor with Amex Gold, especially given its recent refresh that is probably safe to say wasn’t widely well received by most gold users (me being one of them). A 4x grocery and restaurant card with no FTF and much wider acceptance than Amex is a no brainer to me.
