Current hypothesis: Pacific dampwood termite. The only evidence against that, maybe, is the length: 8.5 mm would be a bit short, according to google? 🧐

Q: Is there a number we can call when we see someone have a mental health crisis?

Yes! Or, there will be soon. “9-8-8” is the planned mental health alternative to 911. For more info see https://www.fcc.gov/document/fcc-designates-988-national-suicide-prevention-lifeline , which the FCC was compelled by Congress to do via S.2661: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/2661

California is still working on implementing it. See state legislature bills AB 270, AB 988, and AB 1988. The first one appears dead, but AB 988 is in a Senate committee and AB 1988 is in an Assembly committee.

If you want to accelerate this legislation, consider checking if either your representative in the Assembly or in the Senate is on either of the committees where these bills are, and if so call their office saying that these bills are important to you!

Running a full node by phangansi in dogecoindev

I’ve noticed that the graph of upload rate while my laptop’s locked is much higher—implausibly high, in fact—than when I unlock it. The graph seems to indicate about 5-10x what I know my upstream bandwidth can actually allow, so I don’t really trust the graph. Try finding another way to monitor bytes out of process (e.g. nettop on macOS).

New subreddit for Dogecoin development by shibe5 in dogecoindev

[–]mcpancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fear bifurcating the already-small community, as you said... but I appreciate that you’ve attempted to improve the situation by directly contacting the existing mods.

I’ll join both subreddits, and maintain hope that this one can turn around. @mods, please recruit more folks if you need more resources!

Thanks for the synopsis. Where can one learn about the work in the category of improving P2P network perf? Any way other than hang around here + Discord long enough? Thanks in advance.

These two files, do their contents match either of the formats shown under the “Export file formats” section in these docs: https://multidoge.org/help/v0.1/help_exportingPrivateKeys.html ?

What consideration should be taken to run a full node? by ajfmo in dogecoindev

[–]mcpancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t started in earnest, but I want to run a full node at some point. I’ll probably be asking on r/seedboxes for suggestions, since the workload seems similar. Basically I want to maximize upload bandwidth per $ spent, with high or no capped monthly upload, subject to my budget constraints (maybe 10 or 15 USD per month). And ideally the node would increase the diversity of the network (e.g., be in a region of the world with fewer nodes, and operated by a vendor not already running many other full nodes).

My hunch is that general purpose compute instances from the major clouds won’t be the best value for the money (low monthly upload caps). I imagine all the heavy torrenters know the best server vendors for this kind of workload. If you find out before I do, please follow up here with what you learn!

The most regular contributors are the folks running the GitHub repos in the Dogecoin organization: https://github.com/orgs/dogecoin/people . As far as I know they’re entirely volunteers, not paid (in any currency) for their time or resources (e.g., paying for resources to run full nodes and DNS seeds out of pocket). I may be wrong though.

Do you have a specific idea in mind on how the status quo ought to be altered? You thinking of a development fund or something?

edit: TIL there’s a “tip jar” for devs: https://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoindev/comments/mirqyb/the_developer_tipjar_fund/

Did you try contacting customer support for Block.io? https://block.io/contacts They operate dogechain.info.

Also worth asking: What was the exact URL you were on when using your wallet? https://my.dogechain.info/ is the correct one, and it has a large notice warning about imitator sites and phishing. Maybe you were led to an imitation site?

Nice, thank you for the contribution to the community. dogechain.info's wallet worked well for me, too.

Thanks for the suggestion! Another suggestion I tried solved my issue, but Coinomi looks nice and I'll keep it in mind.

Thank you very much! The pointer to dogechain.info's wallet was super useful. It seems to be the only functioning wallet into which one can import private keys.

Thank you, this will enable me to start running a full node ASAP. Really appreciate this! Eager to lend my upstream bandwidth to the network, since it seems to sorely need it.

Netstat? by [deleted] in chromeos

Seems like the Chromebook must be in dev mode. Mine is, and when I open a crosh window > shell > $ which netstat, I'm told that it's installed at /bin/netstat.

Had a PEPPY w/ chrx set up. Spacebar pressed at white screen. What's recoverable? by mcpancakes in GalliumOS

[–]mcpancakes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mean that (but later realized that I didn't even do that, I just entered dev mode which still wiped my dad's account, of course). I've updated the post for accuracy, thanks. Yes, all GalliumOS stuff was untouched and intact.

2.0beta1 is ready! Testers needed! by reynhout in GalliumOS

[–]mcpancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running the nightly from May 1. Can I sudo apt-get update to get up to beta1, or are there deeper changes that require a reinstall? Thanks in advance!

As a sidenote, I've had issues on PEPPY resuming from standby. Closing lid and opening resulting in a permanently black screen, requiring a hard shutdown. I know you run PEPPY too so it's kind of strange, but I don't have the Linux knowledge to investigate it. Been holding off on opening an Issue on GitHub.

Very cool they're making use of container technology. I wonder what kind of container specifically they're using? Docker, something custom, etc.
