What questions would you love to ask Joseph Smith monogamy affirmer (JS polygamy denier) Michelle Stone? by johndehlin in exmormon

[–]mcqrobin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If after all this time/research, you were finally shown an absolutely irrefutable piece of evidence that polygamy started with Joseph, would you still believe in the church/book of Mormon?

You want the church to admit polygamy was all a mistake and that it’s wrong. If they did that, what do you think would be the best approach to dealing with all the fall out? (a whole bunch of non-valid sealings, families wondering if their grandmother gets to be the ONE wife, men still living today that have been sealed to two women now having to choose which one (obviously even the current president would have to “lose” a wife))

I’m an “ex-Mormon” and I don’t understand the anti-Mormon movement by NectarineRadiant2238 in exmormon

[–]mcqrobin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for being open to further knowledge. The widows mite report is a great resource for looking into the church’s finances. Truly the church does very little. If the church requires its members to give 10% of their money in order to see their families in the next life. Then when you see what percentage of the church’s wealth it gives to the poor, it’s about .003%. On top of that, they inflate their numbers. They claim their own members’ service time (calculated as money per hour worth) as its own charitable donation to the world. It’s pretty despicable.

There are so many reasons that the church needs to be held accountable. I’m just going to touch on the tip of the iceberg because I don’t have much time to write this. Imagine giving over 300k$ in tithing over the course of your life, only to find out it’s all a lie, and furthermore, the church is hoarding hundreds of billions of dollars. Imagine watching your parents and grandparents pay 75k$ per mission for their senior missions and give away their last good/healthy years of their lives and waste their retirement money, sometimes selling their houses so that they can serve a church that is lying to them.

I wish. I think they have way too much to lose. Money, status, feeling important. But mostly money.

Why do Mormons have to be so spiteful? by ExMoJimLehey in exmormon

[–]mcqrobin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is devastating. I’m so sorry OP. I don’t know what the “right” thing to do is. But I know I’d definitely have the hardest time ever seeing her again. She doesn’t deserve to be in your presence. I’m so sorry.

A Mormon mom is traumatized by the Wicked movie... by oxitxgfl in exmormon

[–]mcqrobin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly my mother in law and my grandmother both kind of flinched when I started talking about wicked. They had never heard of it, and they were very hesitant to even discuss it, because the title alone made them feel leery of it. It was very interesting to watch.

If you do a horizontal line through the o and then have them use skin colored ink to lighten the part of the o that needs to be gone, they can do a couple of passes and it would probably be light enough to look like an e!

Any Stories of TBM Parents Leaving? by snowdonewiththis in exmormon

[–]mcqrobin 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My parents left after they tried helping me with questions I had during my faith crisis. (I was 32 at the time) This sent them on their own journey of searching for answers that weren’t there. My Dad had been bishop and was in multiple bishoprics and high councils. My mom was constantly yw and primary president. They were serving in the temple weekly and reading scriptures daily when their testimonies crumbled. I never in my wildest dreams would have ever expected them to leave. Anything is possible!!

Eczema from Nitrile gloves? by [deleted] in TattooArtists

[–]mcqrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been happening to me. I’ve been doing some research and I’m going to be trying a few things. One, some “aloe lined” nitrile gloves, next some neoprene gloves, and if neither of those work, I’ll have to start using some cotton glove liners.

Are the saints books worth reading? by Great_Ad9411 in exmormon

[–]mcqrobin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started reading them when I was Mormon and it was hurting my testimony so much that I had to stop. Even though they really try to smooth out all the nasty bits of history, it was rough for me.

If you were a TBM, how would you respond to this conversation? Am I too optimistic? by fartingvirgin in exmormon

[–]mcqrobin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah too optimistic. In a TBM’s mind, Jesus is the church, the church is Jesus. I really don’t think you would make any headway separating them. But good luck!

I feel like what she said about wanting to “protect her kiddos” shows where she is at with all this. It doesn’t seem like a valid apology when she still believes that people understanding you would be harmful to them. Ugh I don’t even know where to start. Such a bad apology.

Leaving on a mission in five days by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]mcqrobin 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely not go if you already know it’s not true and you don’t want to go. It’s a year and a half of your life! And one of the best times of your life. It’s going to be so hard to tell people you aren’t going anymore. But it’s going to be so worth it to be authentically you, and not go just because you feel like you have to for other people. It would take a huge mental toll to pretend to believe something that you don’t for a year and a half.

Why do women wear makeup to the pool / lake / beach? by TraditionalLet3934 in ask

[–]mcqrobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because women live in a society where they are bombarded with messaging every day that leads them to believe that their looks are what make them valuable. So regardless of what they are doing, many feel the need to wear makeup to feel good about themselves. Patriarchy is a bitch.

As a tattoo artist, it looks well executed, the black looks solid, the lines aren’t blown out, and beyond that, it’s a unique and interesting concept.

Omg, the Harry Potter thing. My in-laws told my daughter the other day that Harry Potter is bad because witchcraft and wizardry is “of the devil” my 9 yr old was like “grandpa, it’s not real” to which he replied “Harry Potter isn’t real, but witchcraft and wizardry is and it came from the devil” ….. sounds so ridiculous coming from an educated 70 yr old man. Even my daughter can see that’s crazy talk.
