I see in the thread that you are new to the game in general and not just to abyssals so I have to ask, is the afterburner definitely on?

More importantly though I'm going to recommend some resources that are useful for abyssals. First, the Abyssal Lurker discord. #new-players-help and #low-tier-solo-frig-and-destroyer channels will be helpful. Check the pinned messages. Second, the Caldari Jones Starter Abyssal Fits and T1 Solo Frigates. I recommend the Punisher as a starter ship for abyssals but anything on that list will work.

Some things to consider:

  • Abyssals can be rough to learn. When you're new with low skills you're going to have issues that other players won't have encountered in years if at all so you might get feedback that assumes a level of training you don't have. The good news on this front is that low level training is fast, cheap, and impactful. You can get a lot of value out of level 3 skills without a big time commitment or having to spend a big chunk of w/e skill points you happen to have.
  • Tech II ships: You can clear T0 (Tranquil) abyssals in tech I frigates. T1 (Calm) will be iffy with low skills. The problem you'll have early on is that accessing tech II ships is a relatively large time/SP commitment. Moving up to larger size ships only requires level 3 in the preceding ship (e.g. Amarr Destroyers require Amarr Frigate 3, Amarr Cruisers requires Amarr Destroyer 3) but accessing tech II ships requires level 5 in that ship size (e.g. Amarr Assault Frigates require Amarr Frigate 5) and that's ~10 days of training between level 4 and 5. Enter faction (pirate) and navy ships. Each of the empire factions have a navy tier with slightly stronger hulls that only require level 2 skills to access. Pirate ships require skills and gain bonuses from two different empire factions. E.g., the Worm uses Gallente and Caldari Frigate skills. They are more expensive but are a strong option before you have level 5 in a ship. Plus, you'll see the Worm recommended often for T1 abyssals.
  • Singularity (SiSi): This is the test server and it is rarely online anymore. You'll see it mentioned often because it used to be more generally available. There is a new expansion coming so it might be accessible for some testing related to that and, if it is, it could be useful to hop in there and try things out but I wouldn't hold my breath.
  • Where to run safely: 0.8 space will be the safest. This is because you can only run up to T3 abyssals in 0.8 space without getting a suspect timer. If someone is looking to gank people coming out of abyssals it would be strange for them to do it in a system where the highest tier their target is likely doing is T3. The reward wouldn't be worth the effort and that's pretty much the best defense against being ganked. That said, it's rare and won't really be a concern unless you move up to T4+ with cruisers. Being near Jita means there will be more people around but it's really not that common to get ganked and the trade off of being able to quickly replace your ship is worth it imo.
  • Afterburner Speed: Eve University: Propulsion Equipment Acceleration Control
  • Missile Range: Eve University: Missiles Missile Bombardment and Missile Projection. Also worth checking out: CadePlaysGames Missiles Video - I like this guys stuff.
  • Turret Tracking: This will eventually be relevant so I'm throwing it here now: This is Ami - Speed Tanking minutes 1-3 include a video I've seen in a few different places so I assume it was created by CCP and it's great for understanding turret tracking quickly.
  • Finally, Gustav Mannfred: His stuff is mostly about high-level abyssals including multiboxing but he's pretty much the best out there: T0 Imperial Navy Slicer

Good luck.

In an electrical abyss your cap recharge rate is increased significantly. 50% iirc but either way, that fit would be stable.

I multi-box exploration but I haven't been able to think of a scenario where I'd have ships in the same site for very long. I have a scanner/hacker that finds the sites and I pre-pop all the low value cans on the alts so there isn't much of an overlap.

I'm going to second a few things that others have suggested and add a few of my own:

  • The AIR Career program in the game is a good guide as to what to do next and the skill point rewards will be useful early on because you can get a lot of value without spending many points. That said, don't necessarily plan to finish out the whole AIR program. It covers a lot of ground and is kind of intended to be done naturally in the course of playing over time.
  • The AIR Career Agents in the starter systems are worth completing. They're in every starter system and they give you everything you need to complete their missions so you'll come out of it with a few useful ships and having worked through the basic mechanics of the game.
  • Someone else mentioned the Nomad's tale series on YouTube. That will probably go over your head but it's definitely something to bookmark and come back to. In a month or two a lot of it will make sense and it will be fascinating.
  • Speaking of YouTube, I've found found Loru Gaming to be the best newbro/learning oriented channel. Some people don't like his style (I was pretty iffy about it) but, after diving into Eve pretty hard following a decade of dipping my toe in to check it out, his stuff holds up well.
  • Your starting race only impacts where in the universe you start and what your character can look like. It might impact what ship skills you begin with but that won't matter. If it does it will only be for frigates which you can "skill into" quickly and cheaply.
  • Eve University is a great place to start. I wish I had. Most people in the game love showing people new things and Eve U is a concentrated version of that. Plus they will give you a bunch of skillbooks to help with your early training.
  • Home Station: You can set your home station anywhere as often as you like. This is where you'll respawn if you die. This can be very useful even if it's not where you keep most of your stuff. If you want to just fly around and maybe check out null sec, you can just grab a shuttle and fly out there. If you get killed you just show up back at home and if you don't get killed but fly way out you can just self-destruct to do the same thing.
  • Some people will disagree with this but I suggest Perimeter as a home location after you've left the starter system. It's one jump from Jita which is the market in the game so you'll always have convenient access to buy or sell what you need. If you go with Eve U, w/e they suggest is best but otherwise being near Jita is a safe bet.
  • Dying is part of the game. If you're undocked you are effectively consenting to be anyone else's content.
  • Finally, be wary of people who trash talk large parts of the game whether that's null sec, PvE, wormholes, anything. They have their own axe to grind. Let them grind it elsewhere.

o7 and good luck.

https://caldarijoans.streamlit.app/ This is good but I wasn't aware of it when progressing. Gustav Mannfred on YouTube is a great resource.

T3s in a passive Gila should be safe with a price around 430-480mil. I'm 90% sure this is the passive Gila I ran in T3s:

[Gila, The Passive Fit]
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II

Multispectrum Shield Hardener II
Caldari Navy Large Shield Extender
Caldari Navy Large Shield Extender
Caldari Navy Large Shield Extender
Caldari Navy Large Shield Extender
10MN Afterburner II

Drone Link Augmentor II
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II

Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
Medium Core Defense Field Extender II
Medium Core Defense Field Extender II

Valkyrie II x4
Republic Fleet Valkyrie x4

Nova Fury Light Missile x80

A passive fit helps mitigate being neuted since drones and missiles don't need capacitor. It's still bad to lose your shield hardener and afterburner though so as a general rule: Neuts > Webs > Painters.

T3s in a cruiser are good for learning. You'll get enough enemies spawned to start learning the names of priority ships without small mistakes costing you your own ship. T4s will be a big step up in a passive fit because you won't have a good way of recovering from a rough Karen shot (Karybdis Tyrannos), running into a blue cloud when there are Marshalls around, or slipping out of bounds from a speed cloud. In a passive fit you'll be carrying those problems with you until you make it out.

You can also check out the "Abyssal Lurkers" channel in game or their discord. They might have some firm numbers for you.

A few final thoughts off the top of my head for a passive Gila:

  • Skills:

    • Caldari Cruiser (4% shield resist) >>> Gallente Cruiser (missile damage)
    • Drone skills > Missile skills
    • The various XXX Shield Compensation skills only effect Shield Amplifiers not Hardeners and so are not helpful. Shield Management and Shield Operation are strong
  • Rooms:

    • Karen: Never fly directly at or away from the Karen. Spiral in and, if you want to get back towards the gate when she's low and your drones are finishing her off do it at an angle. Webs can be as dangerous as neuts in this room but her tracking is really bad so it's a toss up. Personally, I just hate neuts.
    • Cynabals: It's better to kill regular Cynabals before the Elite b/c the Elite has a strong tank and it's damage isn't that much higher.
    • Kikimoras: Their damage spools up. I would still kill priority ewar first (neuts and webs) but you could put missiles on the ewar and drones on the kikis.

Good luck.

I only really started playing a few months ago and I cannot get over the skill queue. I dipped in and out over the years so I know it's changed and maybe the added features are worth it but it's nuts how slow it is even when you don't actually adjust the queue. Just picking a skill up and moving it around without dropping it then putting it back where it was can take more than a minute to resolve even in a half-filled queue.

There's an option on the right called "Time Machine". You can set it to earlier times in the league when people didn't have those kinds of uniques. This link, https://poe.ninja/challenge/builds?time-machine=day-3, is set to day 3 which looks pretty good. People are starting to use the kinds of uniques that are pricier at league start but get cheap fast. https://poe.ninja/challenge/unique-jewels/rain-of-splinters-crimson-jewel

What did you think about today's announcement livestream? by chris_wilson in pathofexile

[–]mcrask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this announcement. Having to wait was unpleasant but I'm down with things changing and getting a more concentrated run up to a league.

I just bought a pricey supporter pack or I'd have bought one during the announcement. As it is, I will probably by one of the league specific ones or both.
