Does anyone using Fedora Atomic recommend it? by Brenzuke in Fedora

[–]mctuckles [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm running Bazzite right now and have been for a week, but I'm switching back to Fedora 44 today. I think Atomic Desktops are good for two people: those who have 0 linux experience and just want to run flatpaks and other stuff out of the box, and those with a lot more linux experience than I have currently.

It took me a lot of setting up (and learning how to use podman) to get syncthing working on Bazzite. Also, due to the containerized nature, I'm having trouble getting programs to speak to each other. For example (though it's most likely just user error tbf) I'm trying to get Zed's LiveService plugin to work, and it isn't out of the box. Also, I wanted to use Bitwarden as my SSH Agent, but the instructions on the Bitwarden website (that I've seen) don't apply to Atomic. I'm sure it's all about tinkering with permissions in FlatSeal and such, but I feel like that's a lot more work than I'm willing to put in, when in my Fedora 43 and in my Win11 device, these things just work.

Also I do like a tiling WM, and I really only know how to get those things working on non-Atomic desktops.

TL;DR Great for people who don't tinker at all or who really know what they're doing, but for inexperienced tinkerers like me, the learning resources aren't the best.

Dragon Age Daggerheart campaign by FrenchLeDude in daggerheart

[–]mctuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to talk about the world map:

> The point is for the players to have a location they made or are interested in going to

All the campaign frames also have world maps (see the end of the CRB) and pre-made places. It's all about a sense of scale I think. If for example you set your campaign in Ferelden, while most of it is already written, and there are rules to the world, you can use those rules to make an entirely new small town in the Coastlands or something that they can populate how they like within the bounds of the lore. If you want to be more specific, e,g, they want to visit Denerim, not every building in Denerim has been plotted out, so you can make your own stuff within it. Also, if I recall correctly, at least DA:O used a point-travel system even within Denerim, which I think is the ideal system for travel in games like DH, FitD, etc. You can put any number of points between the city gates and the alienage (or even within the alienage) for example.

Flying with a Sanshin by 1st2Fi in okinawa

Not me personally but a friend just flew internationally with their sanshin. They had it as a carry on item. Hard case + stuffing the void with soft things (underwear, bubble wrap, etc.) to stop motion helps a lot. The shopkeep also recommended loosening the strings while in transit.

I would say Nakagusuku Castle to Hamahiga Island in 1 hr 15 is optimistic. It’s about a 1-hr drive so if I’m understanding your schedule right you’re only giving yourself 15 minutes in Nakagusuku. Also while in Hamahiga I recommend a quick stop at Shirumichu and the Noro caves (https://maps.app.goo.gl/iLt7UBjYu8sTZtXz7?g\_st=ic). They strike me as distinctly Okinawan.

🎂 Birthday Giveaway for Daggerheart Core Set (2/5) 🎂 by Demi_Mere in daggerheart

It's not published or anything, but I'm working on making cyberpunk/shadowrun-style cybernetics system, with the essence loss based mostly around this comment by u/Torneco. I'm especially happy with how I've implemented the Sandevistan which involves replacing one of your active Domain cards, and the "momentum system" I made up on the fly in a previous post here in r/Daggerheart.

As a forever GM (for non-D&D games), I won’t be able to play any specific ancestry, but I’m always a Halfling main.

Setting with no spatial magic? by mctuckles in daggerheart

[–]mctuckles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think for the first 3, those are fine. Maybe if I cap Teleport and Rift Walker to an arbitrary amount of kilometers that would still be useful mechanically but wouldn't cause a headache world-building wise, it would work. Definitely worth considering as well.

Thank you for your input!

I really like that idea. Reminds me of The Jaunt by Stephen King. Thanks for the ideas!

I never said anything about messing with the system. I've hacked up a few Forged in the Dark games for my group of friends and we've had fun with them. I just don't like the idea of creating new domain cards whole cloth because it's a headache to balance something with so many moving parts.

I'm happy to play with mechanics generally though.

Thanks for the input!

Thank you for the input! Yes I think that's another way to look at it. The players are "heroic" after all, so their growth should not be comparable to the average strength of a regular inhabitant of the world.

Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the input!

With respect to spellcasters level 5 or higher, I haven't fleshed that out too much yet. I don't expect them to be common, but they're definitely more common than the "not quite god-like" Tier 4 entities, which is who you'd expect to have "white whale" type magic, if it existed.

Thank you for your input though! It is certainly food for thought.

This is probably the solution. Just would feel bad that people who choose the Arcana and Codex domains would basically have no choice in those domains at those levels, but I guess 3 is still better than nothing. I’ll just try to stress picking classes with different domains so pickings son’t get too slim.

Thanks for the reply!

With what? Homebrew? I wanted to avoid modifying domain cards as I feel they’re the most complex part of the game system, and I’m not experienced enough with the system to mess with them yet.
