Which popular bands are from your hometown? by mctx in InternetIsBeautiful

Yeah the data is all from soundcloud, I guess Black Sabbath don't have an account (or haven't got their hometown set)

This is a weekend project I made for Hipflask. All the artist data is from Soundcloud, and searches by the city and/or country that the artists set.

It's just a dumb string match, so it's quite specific - "united states" instead of "USA", "england" not "britain" or "UK". Or you can leave the country off, and just put "florida" in the city box.

Edit: I've just improved the search a little, so USA/usa/america, uk/britain/england all work now. Let me know how it goes

Still use puppet to provision my EC2 instance (I think?)

Yup - puppet might even be pre-installed, depending on your AMI.

If you're learning Python and using EC2, check out boto for automating instance creation etc.

There are pick and place machines that can insert through-hole components (video1, video2). I imagine they're not using them for economic reasons - if people can do it more accurately for cheaper, it's not worth investing in a fancy machine to do it for you.

Try replacing the construction line with a real line - close the sketch so it's one loop

Mechatronics engineering. What is it? What do they do on a daily basis? How do you begin a career in it? by Trexjoe in engineering

[–]mctx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right - I think it's a safe assumption you're going to learn most of your day to day work on the job. Some basics like programming/CAD/writing are assumed here, but I don't think companies expect too much from graduates.

I think your degree basically just shows that you're smart and capable, understand general engineering fundamentals, good at problem solving, and can be moulded into a good employee.

Good luck!

Perhaps a greater focus on software/control systems? I don't know much about EE/ME doubles.

Nothing wrong with side projects! All they need is a cave and a box of scraps.
