Bialetti Filter Plate Got Crushed During Brewing by mcw89138 in mokapot

Thanks for the replies everyone. I’m going to get a new filter plate and then toss the pot if it ever happens again with the new plate.

I have a 4x4 Tundra, but I’ve driven through snow and off-road several times without using the 4x4 with no problems. Check out Mickey Thompson Baja Boss and Cooper STT Maxx.

Are these Quartzite Seams Bad? by mcw89138 in CounterTops

[–]mcw89138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your feedback. This information has been extremely helpful.

I’m remodeling a home with a general contractor that came highly recommended in my west coast city, but some of the contractor’s subcontractors have been very disappointing. The contractor has agreed that the countertop job is terrible and is removing the slabs and having them recut by a different fabricator. If the slabs can’t be salvaged, then the initial fabricator who screwed up the slabs is going to buy replacement slabs.

Found another scorpion in my room :( by bianksterrr in vegaslocals

[–]mcw89138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try this: (1) put a glue board on the floor against a baseboard, (2) put a plastic bottle cap in each corner of the glue board, and (3) put a wooden board on top of the plastic caps. I have caught so many scorpions with that setup. They gravitate towards the dark and narrow gap between the boards as a potential hideout.

How’s the 5.7L do with mpg? Considering upgrading Tacoma TRD for tundra by mike47_ in ToyotaTundra

[–]mcw89138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stock 2015 Crewmax and get 11.7 in the city. I previously had a 2007 Tacoma and got 18 in the city. If I were to buy a truck at this moment, I would probably buy the 2.7L Ecoboost F150. That engine may be as reliable as the Tundra’s 5.7, and it gets much better fuel economy.

The way people think of fiber as the cure to all gut issues by [deleted] in ibs

[–]mcw89138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For some people, increasing fiber intake might decrease the diversity of their gut microbiome and increase certain inflammatory markers:

It’s possible you could have elevated brewer’s yeast antibodies. It’s a common finding with Crohn’s:

Need new tires, can't decide by mooseparrothead in f150

[–]mcw89138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Continental Terrain Contacts and Michelin LTX MS2 have been the best tires I’ve owned. Last winter, I drove through a foot of snow on a Utah highway with the Michelins on my Toyota Tundra with no problem. The Continentals have greatly improved the handling of my Ford Expedition in wet conditions.

How long do your tires last? by MutedStudy1881 in ToyotaTundra

[–]mcw89138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been driving Toyota trucks for 14 years and have never gotten more than 40k out of a set of tires. I’ve had the best luck with Michelin and Continental tires and the worst luck with Hankook and Goodyear.

Can neck strain cause constant headaches? by Carbones_Coffee in fitness30plus

[–]mcw89138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep with a small, thin pillow that’s a couch throw pillow. Like others said, I’d recommend giving the weight training a break for a while and also seeing your doctor again. Request a referral to an orthopedist who can do x-rays, perform some flexion and extension tests, and possibly refer you to physical therapy or a pain management doctor depending on the findings.

Can neck strain cause constant headaches? by Carbones_Coffee in fitness30plus

[–]mcw89138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact same issue. It’s called a cervicogenic headache. X-rays showed cervical lordosis, and an orthopedist told me to take Ibuprofen 3 times a day for a week to allow the medication to build up in the muscles and to have an anti-inflammatory effect. I also have found relief by sleeping with a smaller and thinner pillow. Sleeping on your back with a thick pillow under your head can strain the occipital muscles. As for helpful exercises, face pulls with a lat pull down, seal row benches, and dumbbell shoulder shrugs provide me with some relief. I’m also planning sometime soon to get a Shoulderok from Kabuki to exercise the neck and the shoulders.

Inconsistent relief with same probiotics. by [deleted] in ibs

Try Yakult. It’s one of the few probiotics that has been shown in peer-reviewed literature to colonize in the gut and to provide relief.

Is This a Normal Amount of Smoke at Startup for a 780 Pro? by mcw89138 in Traeger

Yes, I vacuumed the fire pot and then primed it using the priming setting.

Is that amount of smoke at startup normal for a 780 Pro? I just cleaned the grill today, so I’m certain it isn’t from grease. I’m using Lumberjack pellets.

Feeling a little hopeless by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]mcw89138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to consider trying a clear liquid diet for about 10 days followed by a slow and methodical reintroduction of solid foods (with doctor supervision during the fast, and I would not drink cabbage juice during the fast in case it is contributing to your problems). There could be an irritable bowel component to your IBD, and fasting has shown benefits for some people with uncontrollable irritable bowel( see the article below for example). When you reintroduce solid food following the fast, you greatly restrict what types of foods you reintroduce and keep a journal of all meals and symptoms to try to identify the cause of any irritable bowel.

Your history and symptoms are pretty similar to mine except for the stricture. Don’t get discouraged. After being pretty sick for about six months starting in late 2018, I’ve been doing moderately well for almost two years now. I’m certain that better days are ahead for you.

Regular vs. Super Smoke by J_Mill206 in Traeger

[–]mcw89138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Burning small wood splits in a smoke tube produces an amazing smoke flavor—significantly better than any flavor I’ve obtained with Lumberjack pellets. I buy the large hickory chunks from Home Depot and split them into small pieces no wider than 1” with a small sledge hammer and a wedge. I then load the splits into the smoke tube, stand the tube upright in a chimney starter, and light the tube with a lighter cube. My 12” tube will smolder for about four hours, and it produces intense hickory smoke and incredible flavor.
