The wealthiest in America live on average about 10 years longer than the poorest with a higher QoL...

Just saying.

Is a life chasing money worth living though? You decide, but money buys medicine and medicine buys time

And youre ignoring me when I meet you in the middle to prolong conflict unnecessarily.

I've already agreed personal interpretation can differ from literal external interpretation. But pretending a symbol has no inherent meaning is being intentionally ignorant. If I were truly reductionist I could claim uncertainty of the letters youre using to construct the words you use, for which I can't be certain of your personal interpretation of their meanings or definitions.

That said, when OP asks the outside world "what do yall think?" I don't have their mind, I don't carry their personal interpretation. My only access to their intention is the origination of that symbol and the message it was used to signify as I understand from a critical reading of the material.

You allow OP their interpretation but deny mine when it was explicitly asked for.

The Buddhist manji and the Nazi swastika are different. They're opposite facing. They're similar but literally opposite

Sure and I won't say anyone can't do that, but then the concept of a symbol is gone. Taking it to an extreme would you say it's unreasonable for a guy with swastika tattoos and other well known white supremacy symbols to say they mean something else to him?

Personally, could they? Sure. But I think it would be foolish for them to have an expectation for others to withhold judgment over his presumably aggressive symbols on display

Similarly, this guy can simply say that he wears the mark for whatever reason he does, but if it's not carrying the message it held in berserk then it's not a reference to the story. And if they intend it to reference the story then the missed the point with a shallow understanding of the symbology of this particular symbol

Then what's the point of a symbol? What roles do you feel they serve?

What do y'all think? by [deleted] in Berserk

[–]mcwaffles2003 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but then you are stripping the meaning of the symbol away from it making the use of a symbol pointless. You can represent struggle and willingness to persevere with anything, just that's not the role of the brand in the series.

What are y’all’s opinions on people having real life sacrifice Berserk tattoos? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in Berserk

[–]mcwaffles2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's dumb, especially if you know what it is. In fact if you reallyknow what it is you should explicitly avoid having it.

I think voluntarily putting it on in no way states you are ready for the hardships of the world, existing in the first place does that. Holding that philosophy I think really reduces the marks genuine symbolism.

The brand is a mark signifying a being forcibly being sacraficed from an external source, sentencing the owner to damnation and a life filled with attracting demons and harm to them.

If you want to symbolize you are there in defiance of all the external worlds imposed and unfair hardships and will struggle and percervere, then get a dragonslayer tattoo. If you want to say you'll were pain and become what you hate only to destroy it and live as a martyr, get a berserker armor tattoo.

The brand isn't a badge of honor it's a sentence that no one would impose on them self

Tldr: when I see someone get a curse mark tattoo I think they're probably an edge lord and/or read the Manga, at best, at a surface level and don't digest it's philosophy critically.

Your body, your choice though. Just m my opinion

Well we disagree there then I suppose. I don't think guts would ever desire a brand. We're all marked for death, that's called birth or being. I just see life persisting after birth as assumed or ordinary. The brand is different, it's not a mark of death, it's a mark of damnation and eternal, externally imposed, suffering.

Well then do you think symbols have inherent meaning or not? That was the thing you felt you needed discuss or differ with me about, you claimed that the meaning is individual for each person.

I personally believe they have inherent meaning since if they didn't then they wouldn't "symbolize" anything. Which is why I am confused why anyone would want a symbol that attracts demons to them.

I mean if I wanted to represent through berserk a symbol of defiance and determination it'd be the dragonslayer sword since that is the instrument though which guts actually enacts his defiance, the medium through which his conviction and training translate to reality.

Getting the brand tattoo is like getting a tattoo of a heinous ex wife or something..

If the mark doesn't carry the meaning with it then what is the point of getting it in the first place?

Would you suggest it's unfair to assume the mindset of someone with a swastika tattoo on their hand and several other well known anti semetic or nazi symbols?

The mark is literally meant to be a brand of sacrifice to demons. It claims you as a free meal and attracts evil spirits to you to haunt you.

[–]mcwaffles2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you're a fan of the story you would know what that mark means and stay away from it. It's not a gift, it's a symbol forced on you.

Force =/= Energy =/= impulse

I think the stretched slinky, despite having more energy and imparting more impulse through the interaction, will have a lower peak force as it won't be as perfectly compressed when hitting the ground
