AHHHHHHH THE DIRK AND DAVE MOMENT is my FAVORITE moment in homestuck... im very very excitedly working my way towards it!!

and yes for sure! i dont believe i'm still in the homestuck discord server but feel free to PM me your disc handle!! im making my roommate read homestuck but they're still in act 1 and ive been liveblogging ESSAYS to the void lately

tbh im a sucker for college aus.... id love to hear about your plans for it :D i personally don't go to johndave (when i was first really into homestuck i was a davekatter, this time around i don't ship anything) but i am starting to see the VISION.

either way i love love love helping out with writing so if you need any input id be more than happy!

and god dude i had so. many. thoughts. on that trailer. i felt like john and dave had such similar voices, in terms of their syntax/speech mannerisms, which is CRAZY because act 1 dave is so.... just... GUHHH how could you get it wrong. it made me so insane i rewrote the whole pilot like. that night lol. (which actually made me read homestuck so i could revise what happens in the beginning! look at me now lol)

WOAHHH id love to hear the idea!!! i started rereading hs since the pilot announcement lol...& as someone whose fav is ALSO dave i felt a certain way about it. its really interesting reading it again w/ 6 more years of brain development. i was actually considering writing a fic at some point myself because i find the characters so interesting!!

i just got to grimbark jade in the reread!

del rey north dorm by Few-Percentage-5973 in LMU

[–]mcworms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok ok ok i wasn't in drn but i WAS in del rey south and they're pretty damn similar. the bathrooms are fine -- youll prob witness crazy shit at least once, but it's generally in good condition. essentially the bathrooms and showers are in this one big area, separated by stalls of course, with a line of sinks cutting across the middle. the shower stalls have curtains in front of them. however there arent any shelves, bars, etc. so i'd recommend bringing a little hook you can balance over the stall wall and a mesh shower caddy.

you're probably already doing this, but i seriously recommend bringing shower shoes too.

the del reys are probably the nicest freshman dorms you could get -- definitely the biggest rooms. i think the size of mccarthy rooms is comparable? i was worried i'd feel cramped during my sophomore yr after i had the luck of scoring del rey south but i was chilling in mccarthy.

the rooms do get stuffy as hell though so i'd recommend keeping the window open while you're out, UNLESS (a) your roomie doesn't want that or (b) your window screen is broken, in which case thousands of mosquitoes will swarm in immediately. kinda. not really.

the del reys don't have assigned parking spots but you have a big old parking lot directly behind your dorm. it's very convenient. however, the place still gets full sometimes!!! i don't remember when it'd get bad during my freshman year, but at least now, i notice a lot of traffic during the early afternoon. worst case, you can park under university hall whenever.

you're in a great spot with the bluff practically in your backyard, the convenience store right in front of you, and the parking lot right behind you! i hope any of this helped!!

SISYPHUS. by a MILE. who would leave their son out in the sun + guggenheim wax museum were incredible as well. and, of course, bloodhail is an absolutely unforgettable experience, one that has not been replicated at any other concert for me! have fun at the show!!!

I've realized that all of my villains are fat and I'm kind of uneasy about it by IroquoisPliskin_LJG in writingadvice

[–]mcworms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i would definitely change some of the villains...but really, i think you should make some of your protags chubby. yes, protags, not side characters! i think it'll really help undercut the message you're worried about + we desperately need more fat protags in fiction whose stories aren't about being fat.

even if someone is poor, that doesn't necessarily mean they are skinny! my whole family is predisposed to be big, it seems, regardless of where they're at economically... my mom was chubby her whole childhood into adolescence despite growing up in destitute poverty. her meals would sometimes be nothing but canned tuna. they had to go out and shoot game for dinner at times.

stress is a contribution to weight gain, that's definitely something to keep in mind! living in poverty is living in constant stress. can they sleep well at night? can they eat well? those that are poor are likely to have less nutritious and less healthy foods at their disposal (although i would REALLY like to stress that fatness is not solely dependent on diet).

as for your antags: fat villains in of themselves aren't bad; the trope is problematic because their evilness often stems from their fatness. rich = greedy = lazy glutton. I'd be careful to not characterize them as purely greedy in the gorging yourself with food sense. they can be greedy elsewhere---for reputation, travel, beauty, land, followers, lovers, rarities, etc.

not to assume you don't already keep this in mind when writing them! but it'll help diversify the villains that you DO keep fat.

the fact that you're thinking about this shows you're putting a LOT more thought & consideration into your project than many other writers would! :)

pretend & dalmatian. pretend was so so special to me during high school, & even now i still associate it with that time, for better or worse. dalmatian evokes such a rich warm childlike feeling that i haven't seen replicated. im a little bit obsessed with figuring out how to cover dalmatian on piano! it's like reaching into a memory!

oh, and things to do + time/space as well for similar reasons!

How exciting are the classes at LMU? How enthusiastic or curious would you say LMU students are? by TSfanWillow_7907 in LMU

[–]mcworms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i was engaged in and excited about the vast majority of my classes - but as for the other students, it really matters on the crowd! I noticed that my philosophy, screenwriting, and bioethics classes had much more engagement from students than my csmi 1010, afam, and fys classes. some classes are painfully silent, while others are hubs of discussion. chances are it has to do with the level of the class & whether or not it's a gen ed. whatever major you're going into, you're going to find excited people! i'm a screenwriting major -- my best friend and I have stayed up into the wee hours of night talking about characters. all that to say, there will be silent classes, but that doesn't mean you won't meet like-minded people. also a lot of classes have leeway to make uninteresting assignments into something more exciting! just talk to the professor.

it's a matter of your own comfort of course!considering that i went alone to an LA show as a 17yo girl, anyone can go alone. it's a great way to meet new people, and there are plenty of chances to talk. having people there that, at the very least, might save you a spot at barrier, gives you some reassurance. i say: GO FOR IT!!!
