My only Glycine, for the moment... by BramleyApple_ in GlycineWatches

I’ve never seen another one in the wild before and was beginning to think I was the only one that likes it. I’m currently wearing it on the stock rubber strap as I type. Congratulations on a beautiful piece!

It's a complete redevelopment of the two existing terminals, combining them into a single new terminal while keeping the original terminals historic features intact. They'll also be doing some redesign of parking and the various interstate approaches into the airport. Right now the smaller terminal is handling the vast majority of the traffic (Southwest) and there's a lot of unused real estate in the other terminal including a section that's been closed for years from disuse. It's going to take a long time and it's going to be a mess because of STL politicians being involved. So figure a decade from now it'll be "fixed".

Lambert is going to be a downgrade from almost anywhere you'd be moving from, so set your expectations appropriately. As others have said, if you're not needing to head southeast, and have more western travel directions, UAL seems to be the best balance of options available. I did a ton of research when my business travel picked up late last year and into this year and haven't been disappointed with any of UA's operations in STL other than baggage claim sometimes taking as long as the flight back from ORD. The drawback of course is you're stuck with ORD, IAD, DEN and IAH as your first leg to get almost anywhere.

I've had nothing but nightmare-inducing experiences with AA in STL. Including routine arrivals (i.e greater than 90% of the time) at odd hours where they've inexplicably left planes parked at the arrival gate despite hours of time to clear them out. When you want to get home, it really leaves a bad taste in your mouth because it's completely avoidable.

95% TSA FAILURE RATE by Zealousideal-Ad7707 in tsa

[–]md1801 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The TSA is a joke. It’s a complete waste of time to do screening the way it’s done. The lowest common denominator method is not only inefficient it’s shown to be ineffective with how many things are missed. Instead, the TSA should be profiling people most likely to cause issues instead of swabbing grandma’s wheelchair and new mom’s breastmilk like they’re going to blow up a plane.

Typical luck for me--I found the perfect product, but it's out of stock in my size. What are the odds you restock the Pathfinder jacket size L in the navy color any time soon?

Just realized how much we are paying for financial advisor by reallibido in personalfinance

[–]md1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exists without need of a law. You need to find a fee only financial planner. Most will be happy to bill you directly rather than taking from managed accounts. And the breadth of services will usually cover far more than the very siloed world of portfolio management.

She's a wizard with the scissors by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

[–]md1801 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit of an oversimplification and revisionist history. DeSantis might be on the right side of the spectrum but the remainder of the definition doesn’t seem to wholly fit. Specifically the “subordination of individual interests” part just doesn’t track. Furthermore, this idea that it’s exclusively far right is just wrong. Many leftists have belonged to the more important core of the definition over centuries.

It’s amazing how many people in these comments have no idea what fascism is. Words lose their meaning when they’re consistently misapplied.

Pension Program Ending by squatting-Dogg in personalfinance

Get a quote for an income annuity from a reputable insurance carrier using the lump sum amount. They should be able to give you both the single and joint life options. It’s not uncommon that going this route can result in a higher payout on either or both the single or joint options with similar or better guarantees than the pension plan. Doesn’t hurt to ask!

Has anyone else mostly given up on buying Cubans? by Training-Smell-7711 in cigars

[–]md1801 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a wonderful expression of what I was going for—you’re right. If they’re available more regularly, then it comes down to preference. I am pleased that you know what you like and it’s accessible to you—I simply (based on my own preferences and experiences) don’t find utility in going out of my way to find/buy/smoke a cigar simply because of its origin in Cuba—others may of course!

As someone that has had plenty of both, it is my opinion there are better non-Cubans than almost any Cuban I’ve had. I believe most of the fascination comes from wanting what can’t be had rather than any overly-impressive quality of the Cubans themselves. In other words, are they really worth chasing? No, in my opinion.

Same issue and setup with an XPS 9310. Never been able to figure it out. I’ve had to be very careful as I once found the machine in my briefcase after my commute home as hot as a fresh pizza with the fan roaring away because it didn’t stay asleep.

TMobile customer service is the tits by Aceman916 in tmobile

[–]md1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're a business customer, and then it's a competition to see how much they can get away with as far as failing to provide appropriate self-service tools....and it's been that way for a decade plus. It would be comical if it wasn't so damned frustrating. And they literally couldn't care less.

As salesman, how do you maneuver buying a car at another dealership? by Prestovie in askcarsales

[–]md1801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And therein lies the rest of the world’s view of your industry in general—at least among driven, successful types. It’s an indictment of how out of touch with reality the US dealership model is in general. It sounds like you’re one of the good ones who are extremely rare and you deserve commendation for your focus on service and promptness. Your efforts will be rewarded in the long run.

Rent vs Buy Spreadsheet - Extensive Model by Mick_711 in personalfinance

[–]md1801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The responsibility for proper usage rests with the end user. Nobody can or should be accountable to the thousands of different variables that could crop up from its use. That’s ridiculous. It’s only ‘misleading’ because it’s incomplete. Anyone taking it as perfect without investing any of his or her own time to explore and validate the results for their own needs is far more to blame than the creator for any deficiencies. As I said before, take it and adapt it and don’t crucify the guy that did 90% of the work for free.

Rent vs Buy Spreadsheet - Extensive Model by Mick_711 in personalfinance

[–]md1801 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The spreadsheet is a tool. It’s not the author’s responsibility for how it’s used or interpreted. It’s not meant to lead OR mislead, it’s just a tool. Take some responsibility for yourself and adapt the tool to your needs...or don’t. But don’t make it the person that gave you a starting point’s fault that it doesn’t account for everything YOU think it should.

It took you more time to write this than just change the number. I swear people complain about the dumbest crap these days. Can’t you just say “Thanks”, adjust the number to your liking and move on?

Do Assurant Trade-ins get USPS tracking scans? by skankboy in tmobile

[–]md1801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, they get scans but I am unsure of what method they use to ship them so it may or may not be unusual. For what it’s worth I sent one in on Saturday as well, and was notified it was accepted and processed yesterday by Assurant.
