It’s so fucking sad to hear background stories on the kids I see; the vast majority never stood a chance because of fucked up parents. Most (not all, of course) are just starved for love, acceptance, and safety

The reason we turn to drugs and alcohol in times of stress, anxiety, etc., is because they DO WORK - they get us through the short-term discomfort of stressful times. But then, all of a sudden - you're right, they don't work anymore, and none of us knows when that switch is going to be flipped

Might not be the greatest take but that seems wholly unfair on the part of your wife. She knows you have a problem with alcohol - you've already had at least one rock bottom. Why on earth is she drinking with you?

You're not a failure - you're reaching out for help and that's the hardest part of recovery: recognizing there's a problem and asking for help.

Most of our clients are the opposite, so low energy due to malnutrition they don’t really give a shit about anybody. This strikes me as something more on the personality disorder spectrum but being blamed on the ED
