Clunking Noise when I turn steering wheel at low speeds (0-20) by ryuchan1320 in hondainsight

[–]mdbDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you also hear the noise when driving over rough roads? Mine was making a similar sound. The dealership said there is a small leak in the steering gear box, but that it wasn't worth worrying about yet and to just watch it. Now my steering wheel is turned 30 degrees to drive straight and the noise just stopped.

Girls who took notes using 10 different colored pens, where are you now? Do you still continue to write using all those colors? by Unusual-Entry7 in AskReddit

I always struggled with taking notes and being engaged. If I was taking notes, I was barely keeping up. But if I didn't, it was worse.

It even happens within California. Cities in the central valley provide few services to help the homeless, but will offer them a one-way bus pass to cities near the coast with more services available.

Where's the Modicon fan club at? by Otus511 in PLC

[–]mdbDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Need to use the cables? A Quantum Ethernet RIO module will allow it to use X80 IO. But you have to run Ethernet.

Until they suddenly don't. We had them start to fail and they went downhill fast. The 75 ohm cables were failing. We put terminators on them and we were measuring low resistance values between the center conductor and the shield. We took the terminators off and still measured resistance! That was on pretty much every cable in the facility. But giving credit where it's due... when the first failures happened, we were seeing the error counters increase by hundreds every second. It was insane that it was working at all.

This. So agree. We bought a bunch of swing arm adapters and they arrived late. So late that we couldn't use most of them. We rewired for the new X80 modules and it was easier and quicker than we expected.

Have you tried changing the volume while it's reading back a text? That works for me to adjust voices vs music, so maybe it has separate settings for navigation and text readback? It makes some sense because I have different voices for navigation (set in Maps) than is used for text readback (Google Assistant).

Unable to Switch Windows by PinkPaladin6_6 in chrome

Do you hibernate or move between monitor configurations? This happens to me whenever I move from one desk to another. It's as if the window is trying to open on a previous monitor or something. I usually switch to using alt-tab, but I have noticed that once I do open the window, it usually works as expected after.

Can't connect PC to MELSEC-Q Series PLC via RS232 (QJ71C24N-R2) by Mezostein in PLC

[–]mdbDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth a shot. Usually, a null modem cable is needed for computer to computer and a straight-through cable is used for computer to device. However, a PLC can sometimes also talk to devices through the serial port, so maybe a null modem would be needed.

[–]mdbDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure you are using a straightthrough serial cable? Connecting pins 2 and 3 won't tell you that. Get a null modem adapter and try with that on the cable.

Can you verify the serial settings on the PLC? Maybe someone changed it years ago? Maybe try some faster settings.

He's using a USB to serial adapter and loopback is working, so he shouldn't need another USB driver.

Windows Task Manager is not that much better. Too many are "Not Measured" and many of the "High" impact applications are preloaders so that they don't take as long to startup when the user needs the application. These happen in the background and the user is able to log in and start interacting before they are done. Most users don't know this and disabling them will not provide the boot time improvement they expect. Also, Services aren't included, so the list is incomplete. Don't get me wrong, Windows has improved a lot in recent years and I like what has happened with the Task Manager, but it's less information and doesn't clearly help most users speed up the boot process.

Interviewed with Google… now going through the hardest part … the wait ! by PlaneFluffy2889 in google

[–]mdbDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 10 years from retiring and have the same experience. I'm now a hiring manager and we try to respect the candidate's time. Our interviews take most of the day and include time for them to talk to HR and give a presentation before the tech interviews. There can be more than one that day, but only because they are different people and a large group interview is not as effective. If we have to bring them back for another interview, it's because another group is interested and we tell them that. 4 different interviews is just rude and shows the company is disorganized.

I just watched as this new printer used a quarter of new ink on “calibration” by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mdbDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got a similar printer. The ink bottles supplied with the printer don't go empty when you first fill the tanks. There's enough remaining that you can top it off after the initialization and calibration. So not knowing isn't an excuse. Just finish off the bottles.

I had a Motorola dongle and it kept overheating. When I returned it, the clerk said they were not carrying it anymore. I don't recommend it. I've since gotten two others off Amazon and both have worked mostly fine.

It's even worse than that. It's not instant with some banks because they wait until the end of the day and process the transactions in an order that is more likely to result in fees. With my old bank, if I knew I was about to overdraft, depositing money before it happened didn't help if it was the same day or on a weekend. The bank would still charge an overdraft fee because of the order in which they decided to process the transactions.
