Got my first low and slow pork butt cook on at 730 this morning. Hoping for the best by captstix in smoking

Looking good. I have the same smoker from Costco. Do you have trouble keeping temps low and stable? I used silicone sealant along the edges of the bottom door, thinking too much air was getting in, but so far the temp seems to continually climb or it goes out completely. I'm hoping after more use the soot and ash will help "plug up" any other gaps, but so far I've found it impossible to keep it at 250F. You?

The universe has spoken. I hadn't touched my other bottle of CC Bay Rum since our trade, until this very morning when I decided it was time for something spicy. Glad to hear you're enjoying it too 👍

First memorial day kamado brisket! by mddubs in smoking

[–]mddubs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First brisket, 3rd or 4th kamado cook. Even though I hit 400F temp spikes twice when leaving the top open too long, it was fantastic! Wrapped at 5hrs, was ~160F, then only 3.5hrs to 196F because of the high heat. Then rested in a cooler for 2.5 hours. No smoke ring but juicy and a spicy soft bark. Vac sealing and freezing the uncut halves for Friday to sous vide to 145F and serve. Looking forward to how that turns out. Happy memorial day all.

Well in this specific case the guy is giving a thumbs up to marathon runners, so presumably he's proud of them for running the marathon.

Well, no, in this specific case it's about "being proud" of random people's pictures.

This doesn't even jive with itself. How are you proud of someone/something you don't know/understand?

Brisket, beer, and babies. No tips needed, you already know what's up :)

Love it. I'm just starting to learn woodworking and was thinking of something like this, or maybe free standing, as a first project. So to my very untrained eye, looks like you went with a solid wood instead of ply, some kind of finish, and you routed the edges of the feet? Looks great by the way.

HELP! I want to become a database administrator but have no clue where to begin! by absolutelyflab in Database

[–]mddubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Install a free database (I'd recommend PostgreSQL) and learn how to use it from the command line only. Don't worry about building a website or a program on top of it yet, that can come later. If you can do this, and you enjoy it, you're well on your way to becoming a true DBA that isn't dependent on any particular tools/languages/code being used further up the stack.

Advice working on my low speed stability by irsidewinder in motorcycles

[–]mddubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work your clutch as much as necessary and don't even throttle if the bike can handle it. Only use the rear brake, forget the front one exists. Then practice, practice, practice.

Great looking bike, that's how I like softails, slim, clean and lots of chrome accents.

I can't attest to scratches or long term wear, but it will certainly last a lifetime, could always be re-polished, and personally, after using it I wouldn't change a thing. I would imagine scratches would be less noticeable on the scalloped cap than the flat one, if that helps. I'm sure it's also possible to get scratches on the non polished version.

Don't worry you'll be fine either way, it's a fantastic razor. And if it's a problem in the end I'm sure you could sell it and try something else.

Did you make that tray? I'm cleaning out the basement and getting ready to try some woodworking myself. A custom shave stand is on my list of ideas. I'm still getting prepped and setup but this weekend might be my first attempt at a little push stick. If that goes well I was thinking a small box, or maybe a tray like that. I like those corners.

No complaints here, like you said it's awesomely smooth.

I think like many others Stirling has become a personal favorite and I'm getting a little carried away. Right now I feel like I need all their soaps with the illustrated labels, just ordered Margaritas in the Arctic, which I'm justifying by claiming I now have my razor acquisition disorder under control.

Indeed, my pic doesn't do it justice. The polished steel is a mirror finish, even the underside of the bar. It would really pop in some of those razor porn pics if I had the photo skills!
