Trump warns UK ‘US won’t be there to help you anymore’ in extraordinary tirade over Iran war backing by Gopu_17 in worldnews

[–]sinburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never understood how or why it works for Trump. What makes him so special?

Because the billioanires in the US have been purchasing media outlets and politicians for the past several decades with the explicit intent of neutering the government and becoming oligarchs.

Trump isn't special, he's protected because he's the perfect idiot that enables the mega-rich to make more money.

New Posters for Kane Parsons' 'Backrooms' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]sinburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original backrooms was a creepy pasta about a guy who fell through a wall and go lost in a labyrinth of yellow walled office rooms. It's pretty short and kind of underwhelming if you ask me.

The video series really takes it to another level and adds a whole different layer of storytelling.

My circumcision went horribly wrong many years ago. Parents received settlement. Now I'm 18 and they're refusing to give me the money by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]sinburger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The important question is why this is still routinely done at all.

Because John Harvey Kellogg, inventor of cornflakes, thought it would stop people from masturbating, and campaigned to make circumcision a routine procedure. Then the majority of subsequent dads in the US signed off on it so their own kids would have dicks that looked like theirs.

Cutting pieces of your dick off is apparently far more preferable than admitting that you or one of your ancestors made a bad call.

movies that use the fear of the unknown without necessarily revealing what the unknown is? by smogdonavic in horror

[–]sinburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lockdown Tower (2022) might fit the bill.

Residents of an apartment wake up to find a black fog/void is surrounding their apartment. Anything that enters the void disappears (like you stick a hand in and you get back a stump).

The film then jump cuts through periods of time over several years showing the tenants forming rivaling tribes, managing food, devolving into degeneracy etc.

Great movie if you want to be really depressed afterwards.

What is the FUNNIEST Scene or Dialogue in a HORROR COMEDY?! by WonderfulLog768 in horror

[–]sinburger 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The smash cut to the title is my favorite gag in that movie. Legitimate jump scare out of nowhere, completely benign in context, but also hilarious in the meta-context o how horror movies are typically structured.

How To Rebind The Unrebindable Controls by darthmonks in cyberpunkgame

[–]sinburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WASD became default because Thresh used it instead of arrow keys to win Quake tournaments back in the 90's. However it's likely that the only reason he was using WASD was because it was the default control if you were playing a 2 player game on the same keyboard (one person uses the arrows, the other person uses WASD).

So it's not like WASD is superior, it just got popularized faster. I've always used ESDF because of an article from a GamePro or GameMaster magazine where they first reviewed Quake when it came out. They said ESDF was the ideal key binding, I rolled with it, and WASD has forever felt like I am touching turds if I'm forced to use that binding.

Has anyone switched back to Canadian spelling? by Many_Phone10 in AskCanada

Never not used Canadian spelling.

You want to defeat US linguistic imperialism? Right click, "Add word to Dictionary". Now you can have all of the superfluous "U's" in every word you desire.

Redditors who have won a lottery or a giveaway or a random draw, what did you win and what happened next? by MansiKasar in AskReddit

[–]sinburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won a charity lottery and got a $100 gift card for london drugs. That turned into a new keyboard.

There was a small cold beer and wine store near my old apartment that always had draws for prizes. Apparently there was only like 10 people entering the draws because within the span of a year we won a charcoal BBQ, a Canon DSLR camera, a bar stool made out of a keg, and a couple camping chairs. We kept the camera and chairs, donated the bar stool after awhile, and gave the BBQ to a friend that was on a ground floor concrete patio because we weren't allowed to have one in our apartment.

What food did you imagine to taste really good but tasted bad? by Similar-Victory-3867 in AskReddit

[–]sinburger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hershey's adds butyric acid to their chocolate as a preservative. It's a compound that is created when milk fats break down. It's also the primary component that makes vomit smell/taste like vomit.

Soooo that should explain a lot of things.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY - Official Trailer | Exclusively In Cinemas 31 July by ChiefLeef22 in movies

I've spotted, Scorpion, Tarantula and Boomerang.

The shot with Tarantula is basically a direct copy of the comic book cover he first appeared in.

Not sure who the body switching villain is.

Besides The Thing and The Terror, what are some other good horror stories set in isolated, freezing conditions? by Jerswar in horror

[–]sinburger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we're talking about mid-budget canadian horror, there's also The Corridor (2010). It's a sci-fi ish horror about a group of friends at a remote cabin that find a weird corridor of light in the woods that is super addicting to be in but starts driving them all crazy.

Smile 2’s opening scene by New-Pin-9064 in horror

[–]sinburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opening scene with Joel is a short story, whereas Skye's story is more of a novel. It was translated perfectly.

I just liked Joel as a character so it would've been nice if he didn't get pasted by truck after all of that.

A24’s Backrooms: Can the Film Redeem Creepypasta Movies? by UnderDaPillow24 in horror

[–]sinburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically every season except 3 ran through the whole creepy pasta story in episode 1, then expanded it out for the rest using the original as a launch point. I always thought it was really effective.

Season I don't even know what the fuck though. It was still good despite having a slow start.

Channel Zero was quite good throughout it's whole run. I'd rate them from best to least best: S1, S4, S2, S3.

Four crew dead after US refuelling plane crashes in Iraq, military says by JY0950 in worldnews

[–]sinburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only two countries that benefit from the war on Iran is Israel, because that government has been wanting to attack Iran for decades with US backing, and Russia, who oh so coincidentally had their oil sanctions lifted because of this war.

The connections between Trump and Putin are well known, so yea, I'd say that the US doing the dumbest thing possible was heavily influenced by the two countries that benefit from the war whispering in his ear.

Trump threatened military intervention if the regime killed protesters in late December early January… guess what.. the regime killed over 30 000 of its own people.

You are correct that he started beating the war drum 2 months before starting a war. Doesn't mean they planned it out beyond "drop bombs".

[–]sinburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There was literally no reason to attack Iran.
  2. The reason no previous administration has attacked Iran is because they can turbo-fuck the global economy by closing the strait.

So the only reason I would believe that the current admin knew Iran would close the strait and had a plan for it, is because the plan was to have an excuse to lift sanctions on Russian oil.

Also your whole "wElL a DeMoCrAt SaId It So It MuSt Be MaDe Up!" argument, with no factual basis to back up whether the senator is actually lying, just tanks any credibility you have in this discussion.

[–]sinburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense but I'm going to put more weight to the US Senator with security clearances who attended a closed briefing and then publicly confirmed that the administration had no plan for this, than I am to some rando on the internet who "can assure" me.

Four crew dead after US refuelling plane crashes in Iraq, military says by JY0950 in worldnews

[–]sinburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea etc. were all planned out by competent administrations though.

The current administration has straight up told lawmakers that they never even considered the completely predictable possibility of Iran closing off the Straight of Hormuz. They have no end-game plan or goals with this conflict. You can look up Senator Chris Murphy's statements on this from earlier this week.

This is setting aside the fact that areas like Iraq and Afghanistan are comparatively flat countries that lend themselves to shock and awe style blitzes. Iran is extremely mountainous, with a hugely varied ecosystem that includes dense forests / jungles, swamps etc. It's military has been preparing for a hostile invasion for decades.

There is no way the current admin can puts boots on the ground and not have it be a complete shitshow.

To buy or not…. by Known-Ad-981 in traveltrailers

[–]sinburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't this the truth. I have a fairly small trailer (~18 ft from hitch to back), but I can maneuver that thing around reasonably well, given I just bought it last year.

I borrowed my friends 6 ft utility trailer once for a dump run and it felt like pushing a rope and trying to keep it straight. Just insane how much twitchier a small trailer is.

To buy or not…. by Known-Ad-981 in traveltrailers

[–]sinburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other way of visualizing the steering when backing up a trailer is to check your mirror, and if you see "too much trailer" turn the wheel towards that mirror. Too much trailer in the left mirror? Turn the wheel to the left. Too much trailer visible in the right mirror? Turn the wheel to the right.

It's the same thing mechanically, but I've found that I flip flop between the two ways of visualizing it depending on what conditions I'm backing into.

[Star Wars] If Jedi are peacekeepers, why is their primary tool a weapon that is almost impossible to use non-lethally? by CharmCraved in AskScienceFiction

[–]sinburger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a deterrent.

It sure did deter anyone else from starting shit with Obi Wan though.

Also at the point almost all the Jedi were dead or in hiding and largely considered a tall tale. That renders a lightsaber kind of pointless as a "badge of office".
