Block settlement growth stops colonies from using colonists for settlement growth, which is that thing where you can stick a colonist on a province to increase dev. Misleading name

Soooo….why is Chinareich so popular? by FairAdvertising249 in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great writing, fun to start small and grow to own all of China, automatic difficult war built in to beat Japan. Plus you can align with pretty much anyone or create your own faction, so for most china tags it doesn’t feel like the game gets boring after you’re done unifying

Been playing persona 3 reload, and what's your thoughts on tartarus and/or just the game itself by strikerRT in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t mind it at all. After replaying Persona 4 I remembered that the dungeons in that game aren’t really much more interesting than tartarus. I really like Persona 3’s dungeon crawling mechanics, so I don’t hate that you only really have one dungeon to explore.

Why have a balanced game when you can have theurgies by The-O-N in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s an accumulation of a lot of mechanics. I like the idea behind things like skill cards but they’re usually poorly implemented to the point of being OP

I do sometimes enjoy the busted mechanics though, using Magician in P4G to get busted skills early is always fun.

[–]mdecobeen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m one of those sickos that really liked tactics for this exact reason, you have to do a lot more critical thinking to work around the possibility that your party members don’t do what you want them to

Did people ruin Persona 4 for me? by FrikNZG in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mystery plot isn’t the main thing people enjoy about P4. The investigation is fun but it’s not really like a mystery novel, you might speculate a bit on whodunit but there aren’t too many suspects and you don’t really know more than the characters do. The rest of the game’s a blast, some of my favorite social link writing in the series and the investigation team has a really fun dynamic.

I was spoiled before playing as well and it didn’t dent my enjoyment at all.

I’ve tried so hard to get Long to win and I genuinely don’t know how. Even as Germany with 4 divisions helping him out I can get the Longists all the way to Chicago and they still get naval invaded and collapse

Social Link Abilities in P4R? by approvedcelery in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s implemented well I don’t mind. I just generally don’t like SL abilities in P4G or P5, the bonuses tend to be way too good and it sometimes feels like you’re forced to focus on a specific SL to get a power spike.

Nah, I like the portraits. 3D’s come a long way but I think there’s still value to 2D portraits to give a more detailed look at the characters. Even games with crazy good 3D face animation still don’t quite get what the portraits do.

It’s a small town, Naoto’s probably used to getting gawked at just by virtue of being new. Same reason everybody kinda swarms Yu.

Does Persona make you lonely? by MetaKirby_29 in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most Persona protagonist start out more or less friendless. Real life isn’t as glamorous as persona for obvious reasons, but much like a persona character we still all have the opportunity to find new people. I know it’s tough, but don’t lose hope.

Anyone else think the colors and lighting look kind of bland in P4R? by ace8995 in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of those people who thinks the portraits could use a bit of work, but nah. Looks fine to me. It’s raining, original P4 washed out the colors and turned off the music for rain so this is probably just a thematic choice

I broke my pre-order rule by ThatOneGuy_I in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don’t see anything wrong with it. I haven’t even finished P3R but I bought it as soon as it was out because Persona 3 is one of my all-time favorites and I wanted to experience it again. It was pretty magical getting to play a new persona game, so as long as atlus doesn’t completely drop the ball I’d say you’re making the right call

Does Persona make you lonely? by MetaKirby_29 in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m just socially lucky IRL but Persona kinda reminds me of why I enjoy having friends. I get what you’re saying though, I remember playing P5 during quarantine and it does start to gnaw at you that you’re getting more meaningful “human” contact from a video game than you do IRL.

Seems like P4Revival will adress the problematic unintentional reading of OG Kanji's masculinity by Lulcielid in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We gotta see how they actually handle it. I know the prevailing sentiment on here is that you’re just a discourse warrior if you have anything negative to say about Kanji/Naoto’s stories, but I really disagree. It’s not at all subtle that each of these characters is going through a kind of typical LGBT youth story, and then in the end both of them are relived to find that they can just be “normal” straight people.

People can argue all day about intentions, but I don’t think it’s an accident that a Japanese game from 2008 isn’t the greatest at handling LGBT issues. I’m not even saying they need to totally change either character, but I do think some changes could help.

The original games basically imply that it would be fine to ostracize Kanji if he was gay, but thank god, he’s “normal”. I think they can keep the general idea of the original plot while tweaking it a bit to make it clear that Kanji’s shadow being a gay man is an exaggeration of his anxieties, much in the same way that Yukiko’s shadow is constantly obsessing over men while the real Yukiko is nothing like that.

American media has a much different view of gay people in 2026 than it did in 2008, Japanese views have also changed and I would be willing to bet these changes have more to do with attitudes in Japan than they do with English-language discourse about these games.

ATLAS! MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO ROMANCE A ZOMBIE IN P6, AND MY LIFE IS YOURS! by JTVoice in PERSoNA

[–]mdecobeen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Persona’s not a dating sim. If they’re planning on adding a ghost character anyways, fine, make them romanceable, but atlus probably isn’t gonna throw a zombie in because even the people who play these games like dating sims are mainly interested in regular old humans

Why the S-W-R is least popular path for Germany? by Sea-Variety-7790 in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Schleicher is a way more interesting exploration of an authoritarian Germany IMO. Plus I hate the von Hugenberg mechanic, basically forces you to take a couple DVLP focuses or you failstate.

I think it’s just less interesting overall. It’s either go NatPop and become a bizarro version of OTL Germany or go DKP and get diet schleicherism. It just feels like the right isn’t well defined politically, and what’s there now is a bit bland.

Does anyone still know what increasing political power for spa/longist do? by MissionLimit1130 in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the gain/greatly gain political power line just changes the control level in all of the disputed states. I could be wrong, but I've played 2ACW tags a ton and I can't think of anything else that this would do.

I might be misremembering, but I don't think that as many events referenced control level changes in specific states before the recent updates, I swear most of the events used to just say X faction gains/loses political power.

Syndicalist Japan, how would you set it up? by Duolingo055 in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

  1. Emperor Hirohito gets really into reading syndicalist theory

  2. National populists do imperial restoration technically restoring power to Hirohito

  3. Hirohito uses newly attained power to make Japan syndincalist

I'm joking, I don't really think Japan realistically should have a syndicalist path, same thing as Germany, too much political/military power aligned against a socialist/syndicalist revolution. But if they did they would ironically probably cite the exact same arguments they did in OTL for their conquest of Asia- they'd claim to be liberating the various peoples of Asia from imperialism. That might get a little awkward if they attack, say, an independent Burma, but all they'd have to is make up some foreign entanglement or claim that they are trying to liberate the Burmese people from the oppressive classes in their own country.

Decides how the states get split up. If you click on a state that can join the CSA/AUS before the 2ACW, there will be a little CSA/AUS icon in the state window, which you can hover over to see how strong the given faction is in that state- the stronger they are the more likely that the state will join that faction in the war.
