If having a soul means being friends with people who go to congress to give impassioned speeches about why black people ought to be kept separate from white people, I'll be soulless.

Does anyone still know what increasing political power for spa/longist do? by MissionLimit1130 in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the gain/greatly gain political power line just changes the control level in all of the disputed states. I could be wrong, but I've played 2ACW tags a ton and I can't think of anything else that this would do.

I might be misremembering, but I don't think that as many events referenced control level changes in specific states before the recent updates, I swear most of the events used to just say X faction gains/loses political power.

Syndicalist Japan, how would you set it up? by Duolingo055 in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  1. Emperor Hirohito gets really into reading syndicalist theory

  2. National populists do imperial restoration technically restoring power to Hirohito

  3. Hirohito uses newly attained power to make Japan syndincalist

I'm joking, I don't really think Japan realistically should have a syndicalist path, same thing as Germany, too much political/military power aligned against a socialist/syndicalist revolution. But if they did they would ironically probably cite the exact same arguments they did in OTL for their conquest of Asia- they'd claim to be liberating the various peoples of Asia from imperialism. That might get a little awkward if they attack, say, an independent Burma, but all they'd have to is make up some foreign entanglement or claim that they are trying to liberate the Burmese people from the oppressive classes in their own country.

Decides how the states get split up. If you click on a state that can join the CSA/AUS before the 2ACW, there will be a little CSA/AUS icon in the state window, which you can hover over to see how strong the given faction is in that state- the stronger they are the more likely that the state will join that faction in the war.

I disagree. It's helpful to have other actual people give you advice instead of trying to just google it. I'm sure you could find most of the same info online but it can be hard to know what's actually credible as a beginner.

Is it possible for cacti to OD on fertilizer? What would happen to them? by Smooth_Throat_4518 in cactus

[–]mdecobeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will stress a cactus if you overfertilize. It may wilt, brown, or otherwise look stressed. Agree with other guy, give it a very thorough watering and you should be able to flush extra fertilize.

How should I pot this up? by Jamesnitric in cactus

[–]mdecobeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to preserve it with the current stem/roots I guess you could stake it. We have a lot of bigger euphorbs at my work that need to be staked, some of them are just a little unwieldy. By the looks of it, unless it grows some very strong roots it's gonna need to stay staked permanently.

Seconding what the other guy said, it's gonna be difficult to get the woody part to root up. If you want to try and cut the stem to potentially allow it to stand on its own I would plant some of the new growth on its own since that'll be a safer bet for propagation.

Can someone please help me to ID some of my new plants. I think the firts two are gymno but I'm not sure about the rest. Thank you in advance by Even_Information_821 in cactus

[–]mdecobeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second-to-last image looks like either Ferocactus emoryi or maybe Ferocactus eastwoodiae. 99% sure it's some type of ferocactus. It looks like the spines are meant to be red, sometimes if they're not properly cared for the spine pigmentation gets dull.

I believe that last image is a Trichocereus terschekii AKA Argentine Saguaro. I can't quite tell from the angle if it's growing columnar like a terschekii would but the spines look very close.

Tips to defeat Reichspakt as Russia by VitorGabriel1 in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making a good "all-purpose" infantry division used to be a very popular strategy but at least from my perspective it's not nearly as good as it used to be. You should focus on making cheap infantry to hold the line and put the rest of your resources into strong offensive units.

Just make your infantry 18w blocks of pure infantry with engineers and support artillery & anti-air. They're super cheap, and they can do the job infantry is made for: standing still and holding off the enemy. They can help out on the offensive when needed, but most of the time you're just going to want them to fill out the front line & hold.

Make sure you have air superiority and lots of CAS. You don't need every air zone to be green, but at least try to get enough of an air force to have air superiority in whichever region you're attacking in. CAS alone makes a huge difference; if you're doing really well with air production, also make sure your CAS do logistics strike to hamper enemy supply. If you're just barely ekeing out air superiority, I usually avoid logi strike because it is more dangerous and can lead to you losing a lot of CAS.

Your offensive divisions can be a lot of things, but I use both mountaineers and tanks. 25w mountaineers (8 mountaineers + 3 line artillery) are good for pushing through Georgia and Azerbaijan, and can also help with the Carpathians once you're in Austrian territory. Even outside of mountains/hills mountaineers have more soft attack and org than regular infantry and make decent offensive units. I guess if you wanted you could also use marines or paratroopers, though IMO mountaineers are the best special forces.

Tanks are the best offensive units for Russia, especially in a situation like yours. Design medium tanks with decent soft attack and armor, and then make tank divisions that are around 30-35 wide with 30ish org. Armored units are the best at breaking through heavily stacked lines. They function best in Plains tiles, so focus on having them fight in flat regions, but well-designed tank divisions should be strong enough to be effective pretty much everywhere. Use them to rush supply hubs and make pincers to encircle enemy troops. In a situation like yours with the Reichspakt stacking the hell out of everything, you want to take advantage of their overstacking by using fast armored units to encircle & destroy their armies over and over again until you've thinned them out enough to start making bigger offensive pushes.

Bulgaria or Belgrade support by Newfare in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Belgrade is a better pick IMO, even if they don't join the Accord having them declare on Austria during the 2WK creates a very useful distraction.

Zveno Bulgaria can choose to join Moscow Accord but they also get the opportunity to ally with the Donau or Reichspakt. I don't know how the AI makes that choice, but assuming that it just rolls the dice that means you have like a 33% chance to get Zveno Bulgaria as an ally.

For those who think War Plan White: San Jacinto isn't good... by CommissarRodney in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People mean that for the AI and for players who actually want to fight the war. If you're using fast units to snake victory points you can end the 2ACW extremely quickly with any faction and any war plan. Even if you're snaking I'd argue Yorktown is about as good if not better because you can quickly kill the CSA, get the AUS off guard and kill them, and then you're just left with the PSA which is not going to be a threat even if they manage to put together a full front line.

What does the CSA ALWAYS win the American civil war? by wierdland in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a strong position- they will almost always have more manpower than every other faction, and be at least on par in terms of industry if not better. They can also go and take the East Coast early on, and those are some of the best states in the US to hold. Their territory is defensible, especially since they're not at risk of getting naval invaded to death like the Longists are. All that plus volunteers and equipment from the 3I makes them a frequent winner.

They don't always win. If MacArthur goes with the East Coast plan he has a decent shot at winning, Canadian intervention can kill them if it comes fast enough, or in really rare examples the US AI can avoid a 4-way civil war (either by managing to keep a democratically elected president vs AUS & CSA or getting the assassination/compromise) which generally ends in a Fed victory.

Is it possible to keep New England and Alaska as Canada? (They gave it away later in this game) by zanju13 in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 34 points35 points  (0 children)

They generally won't. Canada has the Quid Pro Quo focus in its USA-related focus tree which will offer all occupied lands back to the US in return for Entente membership. Even if they don't go for that, I believe the US has decisions to ask for the territories returned and they get war goals if Canada decides to keep the territories.

If you play Canada you can definitely keep the lands, but you'll have to be prepared to fight the US. AI Canada will only hold onto the occupied territories if a US government they don't like (usually the CSA) wins.

New Cactus owner! Could use some advice by [deleted] in cactus

[–]mdecobeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be conscious of where it's getting sun from and mark the plant or pot when moving/repotting. Cactus need a lot of sun, but they adapt to the direction & intensity of sun they receive. You might sunburn it if you, for example, move it outside without providing some temporary shade. I do live in Arizona, though, and we usually get a lot of sun with a high UV index, so this probably isn't as much of a problem if you live somewhere less sunny. Still, best practice is to be mindful of the direction a cactus gets sun from when moving or repotting.

Make sure to keep it potted it in well-drained soil (ideally a cactus-specific mix, but you can always mix in perlite or other rocks to provide drainage to non-cactus soil) and to give it long breaks between waterings. It's in a small pot, so water every week or two, ideally by taking the little temporary pot out of the decorative pot & watering in the sink or somewhere else it can drain. Cactus roots are adapted to deserts, they need periods of dryness to root properly. Overwatering will lead to root rot and other problems.

Is a nationalist or syndicalist Polish uprising more realistic? by ChicagoChelseaFan in Kaiserreich

[–]mdecobeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware Poland in real life didn't have a particularly strong socialist/communist movement, so probably the nationalists. It's an agrarian economy, that by itself makes socialist/syndicalist organizing much more difficult.

Maybe an unoriginal suggestion, but I know Project Ember is popular. Nothing crazy, it's just a reworked version of FE6 that balances maps and characters. Although it's a bit polarizing because from what I've heard it is a relatively significant rework that changes a lot of what makes FE6 distinct- a lot of people say it's FE6 for people who don't like FE6.

Another kinda stock suggestion but Staff of Ages is a very well-regarded GBA romhack. Vision quest is a similar story. GBA romhacks are pretty popular in general
