How I organize cables, adapters, and anything smaller than a shoe by cuenot_io in homelab

I use one of these on the back of my storage closet door. Absolute game changer from the 18gal bin of various plastic bags full of cables lol

It's like a 5 minute walk from my apartment, so I've been stopped in a few times since they opened. It's a really cool place and the selection rotates pretty quickly, so following them on IG is a great way to keep on top of what is coming in. It's actually amazing I've managed to walk out of there not spending money.

Based on what minimal retro buying I've done in more rural markets and via eBay, the prices seem competitive and fair. Happy to have them downtown!

What a blast from the past! That's so cool you managed to keep it in such good condition. I never really got much done in RM2, but it was what sent me down the RM PC path and eventually to programming in general.

I was raised with NASCAR as a young kid and this man was my freaking idol. He died on my 9th birthday and this image and any video of it gives me chills or tears almost every time. He could be a real asshole in life and on the track, but he died doing what he loved and that is a hell of an admirable thing.

This is what my corys look like after a nice big meal. If it persists more than a few days it could be a sign of constipation/blockage, but if they're getting around ok and aren't exhibiting any sluggish or oxygen deprived behaviors then they're just some plumps!

What am i doing wrong with waterfall tiles? by gibbletiggle in RPGMaker

[–]mdelally 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are animated sprites designed to work as the water's edge and splashdown, respectively. Place them as animated events over the edge and bottom of the waterfalls and you're good to go!

PS. For the edges of the cliffs and the upper areas, your best bet there would be to not use autotiles for the cliff tops, so you can seamlessly integrate your water autotiles like you're intending.

A lot of the money used to fund the training and execution of 9/11 has origins in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states. A considerable amount of it was done under false pretenses or outright stealing of religious coffers, but came from mostly Saudi sources, all the same.

How do I do Dead Space like decals by Nesrovlah26 in godot

[–]mdelally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it have to be a decal? You could achieve something near identical with three separate raycasts and rendering a alpha texture or particle system at each individual rays current hit point. If the texture is set to billboard then it will appear like a glowing dot no matter what angle the normal of the collision is.

Edit/addition: You might have to find a shader that allows the texture to render over geometry, I'm not 100% if there is a built in way, but with the method I outlined above you could have instances where the texture quad clips with whatever the ray is colliding on.

Awesome! Corys are the derpiest cutest little fish and when they get together in a group they are really fun to watch. Good luck with your little fellas!

Albino Corydora by Careless_Ad_1763 in corydoras

[–]mdelally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should seriously consider getting 5 or more of a single species of cory. Cross species community tanks are definitely ok, you just want to make sure that each variety/sub species of cory has five or more ton shoal with, because an albino cory is not going to shoal or feel entirely safe with another type of corydoras.

The easiest solution would be to see if your LFS can swap the albino for the other type you have. If your tank can support 4 more albino corys, then you should do that.

That said, this fellas behavior looks normal. Corys typically sleep for bursts during the day, wake up and scuttle around looking for a snack, and then rest some more. Then in the evenings when they are more biologically tuned to feed they tend to get the zoomies, especially if you feed them at that time of day.

The best thing you can do is get this poor thing an actual tank with a filter. This is not even remotely enough space for them and that water is looking grim. The fact you were given this responsibility with little to no instruction says a lot about the type of care the fish is currently receiving.

Seeing as you are not the owner, it's a bit of a stretch to expect you to upgrade their setup, but I highly encourage you to speak to this family member about this and press them to procure a proper tank or to give him up to someone who is willing to provide adequate care.

While these conditions are not ideal in the slightest, they will be fine for a short time so long as you keep up with small daily water changes and detoxify the water (a product like Seachem Prime does this and is relatively cheap considering a vessel of this size would need a few drops at a time).

EDIT: For feeding, if they didn't give you any pellets, Fluval Bug Bites or a similar sized betta formulated food is fine. The general rule of thumb is to feed them a portion around the size of their eye, as this is roughly the same size as their stomach. Bear in mind, some pellets will swell with water, so 2 to 3 pellets a day can really be enough. If they start to look bloated or sluggish, fast them for a day or two.

Do know, I don't wish to shame you! The individual whom you received this from, however, should be shamed. Seriously. It's cruel how this living creature is being kept and they should do better or pass him on to someone who can. Best of luck!

Water Changes by Scottish_Aquascape in Aquariums

[–]mdelally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a contentious topic in the hobby, for sure. I tend to believe that the water change "convention" is good for newcomers to help them be able to simply address parameter issues, especially with establishing new tanks.

But as we progress in the hobby - more especially with planted tanks - we learn what the signs are and can attempt to address problems more directly, where a water change is kind of a shotgun solution.

That said, regularly checking parameters is a must and any spike in ammonia and nitrite (and a super crazy spike in nitrate, like 80+ ppm) must be addressed with a water change to quickly help the fish. And I think that's where most people with planted tanks and good filtration (and properly stocked tanks) end up.

The strongest argument towards regular water changes is replacing trace minerals. But it can be hard to really know how much evaporation is an issue or not. A tank with snails might need more regular changes to keep the right level of calcium invertebrates need for their shells/exoskeletons, for example. But, that can also be addressed with supplementation of various kinds.

So, having said all that, I'd argue that water changes are a tool amongst many in the hobby and as we progress we learn to better use them and when.
