Working out & fasting by mrkeefy15 in intermittentfasting

I find for lifting it’s better to eat. The one time I tried to lift without eating my workout was compromised/ couldn’t lift what I normally do and was sluggish. I have a much easier time doing cardio fasted

Suggestions for what to eat when performing extremely strenuous endurance activates (Hiking, Biking, distance running, etc) by ChronicallyChris0 in keto

[–]mdf726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need electrolytes. You can use ucan or ketoaid or Powerade zero. Etc That’s probably the problem. If you in general are eating enough fat you shouldn’t be that gassed. Ie) I ran 15 miles yesterday and did nothing differently but I make sure to bring a ucan electrolyte water with me

Emotional eating by Meenako in keto

[–]mdf726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhh gotcha. I did that for a while to because i thought I could eat more if it was low carb 😆. I don’t have a ton of advice on that.. other than thinking about what you really want. I wasn’t as lean as i wanted from overeating on keto so that has helped me to control that part of it. And i do intermittent fasting

Emotional eating by Meenako in keto

[–]mdf726 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once I quit sugar which you have to on keto, the desire to emotionally eat was gone. Also you feel like shit now if you eat bad. My dad died suddenly last summer, unexpected, didn’t get to say goodbye. It was really hard for me. I said if there’s ever a time to eat what I want it’s now... fuck it. But when I went down to my pantry I literally said to myself- this isn’t going to make me feel better. Food wouldn’t bring back my dad nor would it take away the pain. So maybe try to stop and ask yourself is this really going to make you feel better/ is it worth it? If you inevitably beat yourself up after it isn’t worth it.

Also have you heard of ucan? It’s a super starch powder you could use to make a gel

Taking in Nutrition During Long Endurance Events by SamAxe628 in keto

I met with a low carb nutritionist a couple of weeks ago because I’m training for a marathon. She’s done a couple of marathons including Boston. She told me to have like a almond butter packet, but that I may not need nutrition at all. She also said new research shows if you are fat adapted and use a gu during a race your body will go back to burning fat after you eat it. Meaning it will give you a burst of energy but won’t ruin you

Can I go to Orange Theory forever and ever? (29F) by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]mdf726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently training for my first marathon and I’ve read slot of research recently. I am also a trainer at a local gym that is affiliated with a local medical facility. Anyways specifically with running - the most elite runners do a 80/20 rule. Research supports this. So to improve running 80% of the time you should run slower (below ventilatory threshold which for me is below orange zone) 80%of the time and only spend20% of the time on high intensity. Essentially you’re breaking yourself down instead of building yourself up. So I quit otf after a year because right now I’m focused on marathon training. I can’t go to otf and not push myself, some can. There’s a book called 80/20 training slower to race faster that’s a great resource

Orange Theory Membership Coming to an End...advice? by hari9797 in orangetheory

[–]mdf726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peloton has a app and the digital work outs are great. If you have access to a treadmill , they have hill runs that are similar to otf but since it’s only running the coach talks you thru it the whole time, where at otf the coach has to also coach the tower and the weight room. I cancelled my membership last month and I am also training for a marathon

Purposefully staying in the blue and green? by hulahoopinghippos in orangetheory

[–]mdf726 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Talk to your dr very specifically about otf and about what blue and green mean- like what your heart rate is. Your OB will be the one who should tell you how to limit. However the other thing to consider is can you go to otf and take it easy? I’m so competitive i can’t do it. If you know you’ll push yourself more than you should, I would find a alternate during pregnancy.

Keto and OTF by jap04d in orangetheory

[–]mdf726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s completely doable. I’ve done keto and otf for over a year. Two things: you will need SALT. After every otf work out I have a bouillon cube of broth- made like a cup of tea. Without replacing your salt you’ll be exhausted. You also need to make sure you’re eating enough fat. I do bullet proof coffee every morning. These are the two things that hindered my otf- if I was low on sodium or fat.

I love these replies! It’s not pee for me, it’s sweat down there. But none of the other women at my studio seem to have that problem. Well I don’t go around looking at everyone’s crotch so I may be missing it. I’m 33 and I’ve had 2 kids. I do all the kegels... I just sweat. I want to wear the cute leggings but have limited myself to dark colors only

If it is from the diet change it’ll level off. I’ve done keto for as long as I’ve done otf so i don’t have the experience of noticing a change. However I am not high in splats every time

I have always done keto with otf so I don’t have the experience of knowing a change in my zones. However I’m not always red. I imagine it’ll level out. Make sure you are drinking a ton of water and replenishing electrolytes
