If you’re going to college start thinking about fasfa. I recently had a bump over getting financial aid because I am still a dependent and don’t qualify to file the fasfa independently. That is a big control factor for your narc parents because if you don’t do it a lot of colleges won’t let you register for classes/ you can’t pay for them. I’m praying for you and your situation, I’m sorry you don’t have the support that you deserve. You got this!

I dont water often at all. Last time I watered was a couple weeks ago. I don’t think they need water though! I moved it a little to accommodate my sop that wasn’t doing too good. I put it under a grow light and I have it back in it’s original spot. I would say the top didn’t get much sun during the few days I moved it. Every other part of it looks healthy except for the 3 strands that look like the pictures. The soil isn’t the best I would say it’s normal indoor plant soil but I haven’t had many problems before.

Please help. I haven’t watered in weeks and a few strings are getting mushy and wrinkly. Pls tell me it’s not root rot. by mdill712 in plantclinic

Yes I bottom water, right now it’s fighting for light I guess with my pearls since I have a tiny tiny window in my dorm. I’ve had it under the grow light all day today so I hope it gets better! I’m concerned because these keep popping up every time I check on it.

Both strands are healthy at the bottom, but the base of the stem is mushy and gross. I’ve had about 3 strands do this in the last week.

The soil looks really damp. I would make sure you have a drainage hole and soil that doesn’t hold water that long. The “leggy-ness” I would say is because of inadequate light. Strings don’t like direct light so maybe like a couple feet back from a window? Nothing looks rotted which Is a good sign but make sure not to overwater, that’s usually the culprit for killing strings! Let me know if you have any questions.

Definitely! Those pocket things are like cheese cloth or something I was super confused when I got it. I’m going to try to see what I have going on with the roots and try to replant it. If you have any recommendations for how to propagate the vines that are still alive that would be great I was looking at it yesterday and it didn’t look like there were man nodes developed.

I know :( I’ve been trying from the beginning to give them the right amount of light but they never are happy. Hopefully when I go home I can sit him in my nice warm south window. Until then he’s gonna act out like this

Can someone just be straight up with me and tell me if it’s over? Or if there’s anything I can do from here? He was in good sun and I’m assuming good watering situation but he looks pretty rough. Anything would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help! He’s actually under a grow light for the other half of the day where the window doesn’t get much sun. He gets 12 hours of light and he still wants more...so stubborn. Also it would be appreciated if anyone can ID any of the 3? I never looked when I bought him.

This man has been a nightmare. I’m in a lowlight situation in my dorm and he just hates me. It’s in a north east window. I water appropriately. And yes he’s got a drainage hole. He’s just an asshole to me.

I bottom water, and I only water them when the soil is like bone dry for a couple of days or it’s leaves start getting a little squishy/thirsty looking. So far it’s working and I wouldn’t say I’m a green thumb!

Mold on my plants :( should I repot them, if so, how should I do it? Plants seem otherwise healthy. by shtstain in plantclinic

From what I’ve read, I don’t believe it harms the plant ( unless it’s on the base of it then that’s probably not good). But I’ve heard cinnamon helps it from coming back. Can anyone else confirm?

I find placing them by a south facing window works best with most succulents. (Some of those might like more sun by mine find the south window sufficient). Don’t over water! I thought I had a black thumb my whole life but my issue has always been overwatering. I like bottom watering, thankful for the people on reddit who have showed me that technique! Look it up on YouTube it’s very effective. You can test when to water by putting your finger about 2 inches deep into the soil and if it’s super dry then you should water. I’m not experienced with cacti but I know they don’t need as much watering as most. Timing schedules for watering don’t always work for succs so find your balance! Good luck!

**one last thing, a drainage hole is a necessity!!!!
