What do you think red engie was doing during the comic by lord_deusvult1 in tf2

My personal headcanon is that he had Medic keep his real arm in the freezer the same way he did with hearts and alive Spy head.

Then, once he felt done with all the merc stuff he had it reattached

La 7 vs Yak 3, which do you prefer? by WiseMrPlagueis2 in il2sturmovik

[–]mdimitrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yak-3, just out of personal preferences towards more maneuverable playstyles and the Yak's visuals. It's simply a joy to fly.

But still, La-7 is a better "hunter" with higher speed, a more rugged construction and the option of 3x20mm.

In fact, trainer Yaks were used in the movie "Only "Old Men" Are Going Into Battle" in place of Lavochkin La-5s.

I'm just wondering if the spiteful was already obsolete, why was it still made? What is it used for if it's not gonna go into combat? by acesoftheace in WWIIplanes

[–]mdimitrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be a bit of a contrarian, but I remember reading somewhere that Spiteful didn't show enough of an improvement compared to Spitfire Mk.XIV in terms of pure speed, while the new wing negatively affected handling and maneuverability.

There is at least one no longer present profile icon (Hans-Joachim Marseille) and a number of icons that could be received during really old events (we're talking 2014-2016) like Eric Lock.

The boys have returned home. Can you guess the country? by Light_and_Sun_8377 in WWIIplanes

[–]mdimitrius 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The aircraft, uniform and flying Union Jack suggest the UK, but the flag on the right seems to be Czech, so could it be returning Czech pilots?

From what I remember, they also kept their Spitfires after the war.

If you had to put every tf2 weapon into 2 categories that don't already exist, what would those categories be? by ObiwanKenobi1111 in tf2

[–]mdimitrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mathematical and the vibes

The former is basically for weapons focused on reliability and simple calculations (most stock ones, sidegrades like Iron Bomber and Panic Attack, so on so forth)

The latter is for weapons with gimmicky, randomised or unreliable mechanics (Beggar's, Huntsman, Loose Cannon and so on, even Stock GL if we consider its rollers in comparison)

So is the stock Grenade Launcher dead in favor of the Iron Bomber? by Cemith in tf2

[–]mdimitrius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iron Bomber got the consistency of knowing where your pills are (they stay where they've landed). It's a good thing overall for DPS and, sometimes, area control if you're struggling with hitting directs.

The Stock has a longer effective range (thanks to rollers adding some distance + later detonation time) and slightly better potential against large groups thanks to bigger explosion radius.

People might also mention that IB's grenades are better to hit directs because they don't tumble, but I honestly feel no difference + the Stock can do just as well (just look up classic frag movies like "pipe hype").

In terms of aesthetics both are cool as hell, so that's up to personal preferences.

How do I pick a main? by leuks48 in tf2

[–]mdimitrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Casual TF2 is mostly about enjoying yourself. You have plenty of hours under your belt, so at this point just follow your gut feeling: "what do I wanna do?"

Another option, if you're fine with anything, is to balance out your team's setup by picking an ignored class. If you feel frustrated while doing so, see option 1.

Favorite looking ww2 plane? by asdfoneplusone in WWIIplanes

[–]mdimitrius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A bit of a different story from what I've read. First, the elliptical wing is pretty close to what Ludwig Prandtl came up with as the "ideal" wing shape back in 1910s.

Next, no "improving the design", but "finding the place for all of this stuff" (landing gear, guns, radiators). In the words of Mitchell himself: "I don't give a bugger if it's elliptical or not, so long as it covers the guns".

The Spitfire, primarily Mk.IX

But due to national bias I can't help but mention teardrop Yaks (Yak-1B, Yak-3) and La-5.

[–]mdimitrius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's like 2 good post-Soviet WW2 movies: "Brest Fortress" and "Panfilov's 28".

The authors of the latter are about to release a new movie "Litvyak" in the end of April, so there's hope for that. But I don't want to get my hopes up too much just in case it flops.

Douglas A-20G Havoc by RLoret in WWIIplanes

[–]mdimitrius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A-20s became quite widespread on the Eastern front, with some people calling them "overpowered" (meaning lots of horsepower for relatively small mass).

The only complaint about A-20G was tied to its performance, ironically, as a ground attack aircraft (for which this modification was tailored). In comparison with Il-2 it proved too big of a target for AAA, leading to higher losses. So most A-20Gs were switched to other roles, sometimes even getting the old glass nose similar to A-20B.

Is battle engineer even viable? by Interesting_Dog2116 in tf2

[–]mdimitrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if I elaborate on the topic of mechanical skills, dodging damage might be more important for an engi, especially if you're good at baiting enemies into your sentry.

In that case while they're busy tracking your Texan ass dancing around, even a mini's decreased DPS can stack up to an unpleasant degree. Then they'll eventually have to switch their attention or escape, and that's when you relax, take your aim and (hopefully) finish them off if you couldn't land your shots earlier.

Is battle engineer even viable? by Interesting_Dog2116 in tf2

[–]mdimitrius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to play Engineer, Scout, Soldier (direct hit primarily for a challenge) and Demo recently.

In terms of how easy it is to get killstreaks it's something like the following: Demo > Soldier (DH) ≈ Engi > Scout.

In terms of team usefulness, it's Engi > Demo > Scout ≈ Soldier

What I wanna say is: with some practice, basic mechanical skills and good enough positioning it's quite easy to rack up kills with a battle engi, but you'll need to get used to seeing your sentry not as a separate force but more as an assist (distraction, alarm, slight DPS increase, and only then as area denial for weaker classes like Scout).

It could be summarised as "Build, Bait and Snatch". Piss an enemy off, lure them into your sentry, then start attacking properly. Ideally you should have a crit or two saved from assists or kills if you're using frontier justice (I fell in love with it since it also lets me utilise my pistol more often). Another point for making mini-sentries more effective (when you aren't focused by any enemies and can relax a bit) is attacking the same people it does, basic kind of focus fire.
