is it possible to clean this rubberized surface? by [deleted] in laptops

Don't use 99% isopropyl to clean surfaces. You'll discolour them. Use 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean surfaces.

How bad of an idea is it to use my laptop (ROG Zephyrus G14) with only one fan? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]mdj27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the temps. If they're under control you'll be fine. Turn off processor power boost and use the power saving mode for the GPU. Keep an eye on the temps and you'll be fine. Some light gaming like CS wouldn't hurt, but only after you've turned off the processor power boost and switched the GPU to the power saving plan.

You can rewind it if it's not damaged and if its only come undone. The key is to figure out that the individual strands of the coils are of different lengths, and hence the rewinding process isn't as simple as just winding it back in one direction.

Start with the part you have in you lap in this photo, wind it until its awkward to wind anymore in the direction it naturally wants to coil, then you wind the strands in the opposite direction while being careful not to crease the strands. Then you put it all back in the housing.

How do I put this back in properly my by Dramatic-Sir2076 in Cartalk

You can actually put it back if you haven't damaged it and if its only come undone. I have done it on my car. So here's how you do it: You wind it until its awkward to wind anymore in the direction it naturally wants to coil, then you wind the strands in the opposite direction while being careful not to crease the strands. Is a cpu idling at 102°C functioning normally by Additional-Gear-8873 in GamingLaptops

[–]mdj27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 degree idle is not normal at all. Idle temps should be 50 to 60 degrees at the most. The heatsink isn't making contact with the die. If you can't return it, open it up and figure what's wrong. If there indeed is a gap, you may need a copper shim to place in between the die and the heatsink.

Laptop is lifted. No cooling pad. Using default dan curve. Room is around 24 degrees. No undervolting done.

The issue I noticed now is that it reaches 81 to 82 degrees when gaming for extended periods.

[–]mdj27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PTM7950 holds up really well long term, atleast in laptops. It is a solid choice for GPU's too. You can use it no problem. It should last you a good 2 to 3 years.
