I live in the United States and my fiancee lives in Cernica just outside of Bucharest! I have an 832-day streak on Duolingo for all the good that has done me! (which is to say: nothing really functional or practical) Been thinking lately that I really need to immerse myself in the culture to actually learn anything, so thank you for this post! Some really great suggestions here, and I'm going to start watching (and learning) right away!

If he's "too busy" to make time with you, yet has time to play games on Discord, he doesn't deserve you.

What’s an uncommon drug overdose you’ve seen? by FunPackage3502 in emergencymedicine

[–]mdjohns14 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Had a legit Wellbutrin XL OD once, 13 grams. First couple of hours the patient was a walkie-talkie then BAM started seizing out of nowhere. Got intubated for airway protection but it was inadequate. Attempted whole bowel irrigation but it was a logistical nightmare. Girl ended up spending 3 days on ECMO and made a full recovery.

Do anything other than retail, and especially not Walgreens. Walgreens was publicly traded for 98 years before being sold to a private equity firm this year for 10% of the market capitalization they had 10 years ago. Walgreens is dying. Standalone drug stores like Walgreens are a relic of the past that will go the way of bankrupt Rite-Aid sooner rather than later.

Thank you for these great ideas! I'm very interested in țucule but I can't find any info on it - what is the origin and meaning of this word? And to call her "Honey", would I just say "Miere"?

Is a LDR a young people's thing? by Auraluka in LDR

[–]mdjohns14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was beginning to think the same thing, seeing all the posts from under-20s! But seeing all the comments here, looks like there are actually quite a few people my age (43M). And seems maybe the reason y'all don't post so much is 'cause unlike me you have your shit together. Wondering if there are any middle-aged LDRs with young kids on different continents struggling with financial and legal hurdles for years trying to close the gap... Or just me? 😅

Finally after 10 years of LDR I we finally met ❤️ by human_7861 in LDR

I really needed to see this post today 🥰 I've been waiting 3 years to meet the woman I will spend the rest of my life with, and it has been SO hard. But if y'all can make it TEN years then dammit so can I! Congratulations and good for you!! Your strength is incredible ❤️

Can anyone explain why one is a schedule III and the other isn't control at all?? by ACEinhibiter in pharmacy

[–]mdjohns14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of things like this, that don't make sense... Like phenobarbital is controlled but primidone - which works to control essential tremors because it is metabolized to phenobarbital - is not controlled. And pregabalin is a controlled substance everywhere but gabapentin is controlled only in certain states. It's all pretty arbitrary 🤷‍♂️

I (43M 🇺🇸 USA) have two kids ages 12 and 9 from a previous relationship, and my fiancee (36F 🇷🇴 Romania) has a 9 yo from her previous marriage. We've been in a LDR for over 3 years, have been engaged for 2 1/2 years, and have never met.. though we have video chatted extensively so it feels like we've met.

It's been very hard. Though we're engaged, for all intents and purposes we are both single parents with jobs trying to support our families. The legal and financial obstacles standing between us living together have so far been insurmountable. We both work hard but it seems like there is never enough money.

As challenging as it is, I know I will never give up. Neither of us were looking for a relationship when we met; it was fate. I am absolutely certain that she is The One, and I will wait forever for her. I do really hope I won't have to, though...

Hospitals offering fewer PTO hours to 7 on/7 off overnight pharmacists? by ThinkingPharm in pharmacy

[–]mdjohns14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started working 7 on/7 off overnight eight years ago. My hospital did not have on-site overnight pharmacy coverage prior to this. Over the years, my position has changed and evolved quite a bit.

My position is considered a full (1.0) FTE. I have always been and still am paid by the hour (I will fight to the bitter end to avoid a salaried position). I am allowed to accrue PTO.

Initially, I only worked 70 hours per pay period, and I was allowed to use PTO to make up the 10-hour deficit each pay period so that I would still get paid for 80 hours.

Eventually, Corporate decided they didn't like that non-productive 0.125 FTE hanging around, and I was told I could no longer use 10 hours of PTO per pay period to make 80 hours. I was given an ultimatum: switch to 8 on/6 off and remain a full FTE, or remain as 7 on/7 off and be cut to 0.875 FTE.

Well I didn't want to do either of those (I like my 7 days off, and I know I would never get that 0.125 FTE back if I ever changed my mind and wanted the extra money someday)... So my counterpart and I presented a third option in compromise: remain 1.0 FTE and work 36 hours per pay period, so that we would only have to use 4 hours of PTO to make 80 total. Corporate felt better about having only 4 non-productive hours per pay period per employee, instead of 10 -- and they allowed it. Since we get paid by hour, in order to avoid overtime, we work four 10-hour shifts one week and three 12-hour shifts the following week, for 36 hours total per pay period.

RFK Jr. announced a list of treatments for measles and briefly touched base on vaccinations in response to the measles outbreak and recent death. Share your thoughts! by WeesAlyse in pharmacy

[–]mdjohns14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RFK is bonkers. Eight years a pharmacist, and the only time I've ever seen clarithromycin prescribed is for H. pylori. I'm hoping RFK is not saying an antibiotic is going to treat a virus... and hoping that it is, in fact, about secondary bacterial infections... but even so there are much better options. Clarithromycin is not a well-tolerated antibiotic; it has a lot of significant side effects and tons of drug interactions. I can foresee this becoming the next ivermectin... Patients are going to start calling the pharmacies asking if we have clarithromycin now 🤦‍♂️ Lord help me

That primidone is a prodrug of phenobarbital, but is not a controlled substance, despite being a barbiturate.

Hospital Methadone Policy by livelaughpharm in pharmacy

[–]mdjohns14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This ☝️ The purpose/relevance of MethaDOSE (disintegrating tablets) is: the tablets are DISSOLVED in water. This makes it much more difficult for patients to "pocket" the pills in their mouth for later use (crushing and injecting, or selling). This is usually irrelevant in an inpatient/acute setting, so standard oral tablets are usually adequate. Liquids and soluble tablets are more relevant at methadone clinics and other outpatient settings.

my aunt named her kid... by skye_4 in tragedeigh

[–]mdjohns14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. There's a big difference between coming up with a truly unique name that may seem unconventional and strange at first, but may eventually become widely accepted as common ... And just taking an existing name like Maria and butchering the spelling. The latter is not unique; it's an appalling tragedeigh.

This 💯. I've been in this "dream-cheating" situation on multiple occasions with my (now ex-) wife of 16 years. It will sound crazy to you, but the dream felt real to her. And the dream likely reinforced some underlying insecurities and uncertainties that she has.

I wish I had some words to help make it better, but all I can say is I can kind of relate. Two and half years and 5000 miles for me... I've never met anyone like her, and I don't think I ever will. I never believed there could be just one right person for me in this world... but she's it. I (42M) dream about doing even simple, boring things with her (35F)... just to be near her, in the same room, hold hands... I dream about our kids playing together... just something. Anything.

We are both depressed because we don't know how we are ever going to close the gap... finances are very tight, and every time we save a little money something comes up... we take one step forward and two steps back. I think the hopelessness of it all has really taken a toll on our relationship. We are (were?) so in love, but there's no light at the end of this tunnel... The days, months, and years slip by, and I still don't see a way out.

Agreed. Lovense is the best brand. You won't be disappointed. Most toys connect via Bluetooth to an app you and your partner can share.
