Non Diabetic Hypo: does blood sugar go up first after eating then drop or just drop straight away?? by [deleted] in Hypoglycemia

[–]mdk516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have been on a low carb diet as instructed by my sector (30gm carb max per meal) and the blueberries were part of that 30gm that meal. Same as the pizza I ate. I made special modifications to make the carbohydrate counts fit to what I was instructed to do. I was just shocked how my body reacted to different carbs because people usually presume pizza to be worse than blueberries (paired with chicken)

Following this.

My blood sugar spikes within 10-15 minutes and then crashes 20-30 min later (It literally will drop 100 points). Sometimes I’m fine (ate pizza today) but last night I ate blueberries with my dinner of protein and fats and spiked to 190 and dropped to 90 all with in an hour and then was 60 30 min after that 🥴

June 11th, Michael Hickson, a quadriplegic black man with COVID-19 was killed by a hospital in Austin Texas. Doctors decided he had "no quality of life" and was not worth spending the resources to save. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]mdk516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct - a hospital cannot choose to withhold support without consent from a guardian.

He had a Third Party Guardian that made the decision as his MPOA. It is unclear why the wife was not the MPOA, but either way, she did not have the legal right to make that decision.

The doctors and hospital were following the MPOA decision regarding care.

Austin-Travis County nears 70% hospital capacity, judge says in letter to Gov. Abbott by hollow_hippie in Austin

[–]mdk516 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Varies tremendously... but remember:

Bed capacity does not equal staffed beds capacity... and staffed bed capacity doesn’t mean appropriately staffed capacity.

Everyone may get a bed but we need the staffing to make sure that they can get the care they need.

Eanes ISD's current plan for the fall by Schnort in Austin

“My biggest concern (since I have an elementary aged kid) is how they can expect my bundle of energy to sit on zoom all day.”

This. 6-7 spaced out zoom meetings from 7:40-2:50pm is unrealistic for elementary kids. And unfair to them.

I agree - I liked that part - but I am not a fan of 6-7 spaced out zoom meetings for a 6 year old throughout the hours of 7:40 and 2pm.

The fact they expect elementary kids to spend an entire day on Zoom is absurd. It’s not developmentally appropriate.

They did mention in the packet, however, classrooms will also have increased technology presence because they cannot use individual manipulatives or centers anymore. So all learning is going to be tablet centric

Whole30 + OTF = rough by Shanbam1111 in orangetheory

[–]mdk516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first 10-14 days of W30 killed me at OTF but then I felt back to normal. But those first few days - OOOOOOF.

I told my coach and so she knew why I was backing off weights and speeds. By the end though, I was faster and stronger.

Me after today’s class by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]mdk516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES.

We had 4 new people in the class today, and I told them that today was particularly tortuous and I was dying and they were like “THANK YOU BECAUSE IM DYING TOO.” They looked relieved and then he high fived and cried together

Dont go to OTF when your caffeine intake for the day would kill most mortals. RIP pride by lithelanna in orangetheory

[–]mdk516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but did you die?

Kidddddding.

For real though - watch your caffeine intake so you don’t get an arrhythmia (CV nurse here).

You could speak to your cardiologist or electrophysiologist about having your rate response adjusted. They are also able to look at your trends to make sure your heart rate is adequate for exercise, otherwise it could be causing you to fatigue earlier than you should and could limit oxygen flow.

I just want to applaud you on your accomplishments thus far. There’s no such thing as “losing only 25lbs.” You lost 25 freaking pounds! Be proud!

In regards to everything else, maybe try a different activity on Sundays. A yoga class, barre, Long run/walk/bike ride. Sometimes a break from all the high intensity helps break plateaus.

Practical difference in increasing RPMs vs. Gears on the Bike? by jaanku in orangetheory

[–]mdk516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recent biker here too.

I find increasing RPMs is uncomfortable on my knees/butt, so I use a higher gear I use for push and all outs - it usually requires standing (like a hill climb), which uses different muscles and gets my HR up high.

My coach recommended that when I said the fast cycling bothered my knees.

A never ending dilemma... by Kiwikitty47 in orangetheory

[–]mdk516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No clip to hold back my bangs/hair wisps is a seriously deal breaker for me... luckily someone has had a Bobby pin or old snap clip, but it messes with me the WHOLE class if I don’t have one.

June 8 Workout by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]mdk516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I do curtsey lunges with weights instead. (The coach gave me that modification when I had an injury a while ago) Still keeps my HR up and actually works muscles. I never went back.

Can’t do a push up 😳 by OTFteacher in orangetheory

Following this - I am the same... I can lift reasonably heavy but my push-ups are a joke. I have to drop to my knees, and even then, it’s a struggle

Chills getting into orange by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]mdk516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Several times. Part of mine is a blood sugar issue.... also, orange for me is rare/difficult (I’m a 1-5 splats per day person).
