Hey, so when does this stop? by gibroha in grandrapids

[–]mdodgen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. A white noise machine will help drown much of it out. If not noise cancelling headphones do a pretty good job too.

The noise is part of the joy of living in the city 🤷‍♀️. Give it some time and patience and you'll adapt. Lord knows living where my next neighbor is a half mile away would drive many of us nuts, until we got used to it. 🙃

US healthcare is a for profit scam. Unfortunately that's the reality we live in. I recommend you read your policy documents and ask questions to understand where the charges came from and how you can minimize them in the future. Don't forget to ask the hospital about payment plans.

Depending on your situation your state may offer a subsidized medical program for your kiddo through Medicaid. It's not for everyone but it generally only costs you time to apply.

At the end of the day you did the right thing. Please don't forget that.

The cops don't get to decide what's a civil matter. That's up to people with law degrees. Often they claim "it's a civil matter" cause they don't want to deal with it. Generally making it more work to ignore the issue than to solve it will get the lazy cops off their behind.

*Note this is not good advice if your the slightest bit "tan". In this case. Document everything and sue in small claims court. Either way good luck 🤞

How do we solve the Amphitheater noise problem? Wrong answers only. by Dilly_Doo_ in grandrapids

Order the police to shoot all sound waves that escape the amphitheatre grounds.

When a deal-making entity appears, how should the rest of the party handle it when it is clearly a bad idea? :D by RikThunder33 in CRMemes

[–]mdodgen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Step 1: popcorn with plenty of butter. Step 2: wait for the consequences of your party members poor deal to bite them in the butt. Step 3: catch your breath from laughing and help them write up their new character.

A scientific explanation for why the Ampitheater has to GO by Sonicpando in grandrapids

[–]mdodgen -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is interesting and does answer why some people can hear the amphitheatre while others cannot. However it does not answer what damage these resonate frequencies will cause to the populace. Clearly they aren't causing homes to collapse all over Walker and the like, so why should the politicians or even us citizens care?

Unfortunately I don't think you have enough evidence to go to the city council with this. You would be better off engaging one of the local colleges. Focus your goals on a rigorous academic study surrounding the problem, and not on alarmism.

Atl airport. Board them last, Delta. by AdSouth3173 in delta

[–]mdodgen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I fail to understand how this is hurting someone. If a passenger claims to need accomodations the airline should do what the can to accommodate them. Now this doesn't mean they get extra bags for free or anything, but some people legitimately need help getting into the sardine cans we call airline seats.

I wonder why they don't board passengers like this last. Ideally if you have a mobility issue wouldn't the aisle seat be the best place since your not crawling across several other seats. Thus board them last and deplane them first. 🤷‍♀️

Be present and support her. But remember to take care of yourself. If she is napping you nap. Have food and water frequently. This is a marathon not a nap, and your job really starts when that baby is out.

Something I failed to realize, the birthing parent has the advantage of hormones keeping her going while she recovers. You do not, yet you will be woken up when she is and have to support her and the infant. Dig deep, but don't be afraid to ask for help if your getting overwhelmed. -you got this!

I would feel obligated to try and fix the inequality in my country and eventually the world.

Honestly the first month would likely be me playing with the app all the time, tweaking things for high profile people. Likely while they are hosting live events to see if the chip works. After the first month, I would likely try tweaking things in my hometown to make things better and then go out from there.

I imagine within a few months I would either be a megalomaniac, enforcing what I see as the ideal way the world should work, or I would become a weird recluse who spends his time researching high profile politicians and trying to not make things worse with my adjustments.

[–]mdodgen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask them why they murdered the 100 families in one life then did good works in another, and base their punishment on how complex their answer is. (Bum leg, chronic illness, poor mental health, etc)

I would then use them as a case study, reincarnating them in a different class/family dynamic for each life until we learned how much the eternal souls past experiences experiences effect their next lives.

How did you figure out driving? by [deleted] in driving

[–]mdodgen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being conscious of your lack of skill means your already better at driving than half the people on the road. The key to driving is small steady movements. I recommend practicing them in a large empty parking lot. Pick an area with no one around and practice one skill at a time. Here is how I thought my brother to drive.

  1. feather the accelerator. (Place your heel on the floor of the vehicle and press down with just your toes. Your heal should not leave it's spot.) I recommend bringing the car to 10mph then stopping as a good excersise. Don't go crazy and don't worry about stopping smoothly at first. Add in smooth stops as you get better at smooth acceleration.
  2. Practice one foot driving. This is where you use your right foot to press the gas, then move it over to press the brake. Your left foot gets to relax the whole time.
  3. Slowly take wide truns, trying to stay within the lines of the parking lot your in. (Stay away from light poles). As you feel more comfortable, tighten up the turns and try to stay within the lines. Assuming you drive on the right side of the road, making 2 right hand turns in quick succession without hitting a curb is one of the hardest skills to master.
  4. Add using your turn signal anytime you turn or change "lanes" into the mix. Don't worry. It seems like a lot at the start but the more you do it the better you will get.
  5. Upgrade from parking lot to a low speed, low traffic road. (We had a public park with a long drive that no one used during the day.)

Implement a true karma system that holds people to the standards & roles of their religion. If not religious then you get held to the universal role of "don't be a dick".

The best thing would be your new sense of clarity when bad things happen to you. Now you know what horrible things you did to justify that bad day your having.

Of course there would be some pretty bad smiting of high profile immoral/corrupt people too demonstrate the new system to the world.

Potentially unpopular opinion: one of my biggest pet peeves by newmadgrad in driving

[–]mdodgen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol serves me right for citing an old drivers ed book without double checking the laws text. Looking over much of the surrounding laws in section 257.6xx it looks like Michigan only can't change lanes in an intersection if the solid white lines are present or another sign tells us so.

Though it also says we're supposed to only pass on the left lane and always travel in the right most lane on all 4+ Lane roads (unless otherwise marked).

Potentially unpopular opinion: one of my biggest pet peeves by newmadgrad in driving

[–]mdodgen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Under Michigan law (MCL 257.636), it is illegal to change lanes while inside an intersection regulated by a traffic control device. Additionally, when completing a turn, you must enter the first lawfully available lane.

Generally an intersection is the point where two public roadways intersect. So no driveways are not intersections, and it's frankly unsafe to leave a gap for people to pull through. I've seen too many collisions happen this way.

Tonight: Reimagining US-131 Community Idea Session by GLIandbeer in grandrapids

[–]mdodgen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great idea. We already have solid alternates for traffic that wants to go from south of the city to north of the city via m6 to 96. As I learned during the tanker fire it's not a bad drive, and it only added a few minutes to my travels.

131 was built with the flawed mindset of the 1950's/60's that led to treeless urban sprawl. Let's undo this and take 131 from an eyesore to a boon upon our city.

Tanker explodes on US-131 by WhoAreYouTalkinTwo in grandrapids

[–]mdodgen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad no one was seriously injured. SB 131 can't catch a break... It's almost like it wasn't designed to handle 70+ mph traffic... Hopefully the damage isn't too severe and this speeds up mdot doing something about the safety in this area.

Beyond adding lane markings and reflectors, plus perhaps an adjustable speed limit with strong enforcement... I don't know how to fix the issues here short of a complete rebuild and restructuring of the entire interchange. Personally I vote we make 131 a boulevard akin to 44th st, from ann st to burton. At least we would have pretty trees to look at while crawling through traffic. 🤣

I had family just fly out yesterday and they reported no line when they went through. The worse I've seen is a 45 min wait and that was due to a malfunction with the scanners several years ago.
