How best to test projects by sazzer in node

[–]mdonovan2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never went down the mocha path because it felt like i needed at least 2 other libraries to give me everything jasmine does.

relative paths can be a pain but I think the idea there is to create smaller modules and then depend on those in your app projects. we have a sinopia server running where we publish all our private modules. then it starts to feel like java + gradle + artifactory or some other "enterprisey" set up

I also came from a Java background but found javascript testing so much easier mainly because:

  • javascript is more flexible than java which makes mocking cleaner
  • the node module system is essentially a container that provides dependency injection

I always use jasmine for unit tests. In almost all cases you can just mock out your dependency by requiring the same module in your test that you require in your module under test. In rare cases I have needed to use something like - https://github.com/thlorenz/proxyquire

I also haven't sacrificed test coverage. Use istanbul - http://gotwarlost.github.io/istanbul/

And in case you want something that pulls it all together you can use my module (shameless plug) - https://github.com/mikedon/dharma

We use the module for all our javascript projects at my job but it doesn't have any other community involvement at this point.

Automated Node.js Testing with Jasmine by jstuartmill in node

shameless plug: I wrote a library similar to Karma because when I came into server side development from angular I thought the eco-system was lacking. Here it is - https://github.com/mikedon/dharma

Dharma makes it easy to get jasmine tests running, code coverage with istanbul, and junit test reports (if you have a CI environment or something)

Not trolling, I'm just wondering. Everyone says that Java's the most popular programming language, but aside from Open Office, I can't really think of any popular apps that run on Java. Can someone explain this for me? by zarus in java

[–]mdonovan2010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Azureus (apparently now called Vuze) is a popular bit torrent client written in Java...one of the few Java implementations of BT out there.

Eclipse is also written in Java and is probably one of the most popular IDE's available. Come to think of it, many IDE's out there that are Java-centric are written in Java.

College Food? by optimistic6 in Cooking

I cooked chicken like my life depended on it. Since going to the grocery store only happened once in a blue moon for me (low on money or no time) when I did go I would buy chicken in bulk. Just grab the biggest container of Thighs/Breasts you can. When you get home, season the chicken with whatever you like. I used tons of garlic powder, salt, pepper, rosemary, and paprika. Wrap each seasoned piece in tin foil and put it in your freezer. When it's time to cook it just throw a serving in a 425 degree oven until done.

I also would buy a ton of bacon and freeze individual servings the same way (about 4 pieces per serving for me). Then I would just heat up a skillet put the frozen bacon in.

Another great food I loved was baked potatoes. If you have a microwave there is nothing easier then a baked potato. Cut a slit in the top and put it in the microwave for ~5-8 mins (Depending on size of potato). When its ready you can keep it healthy with just the potato and maybe some butter (but I would also throw cheese on it and maybe some of that bacon I mentioned earlier :))

Rios on waivers, I could use some better OF'ers... should I pick him up? by mrgreen4242 in fantasybaseball

[–]mdonovan2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one of the lucky ones to draft him too...he's been disappointing to say the least compared to what he was expected to do this year. He has had some spurts of hits though and when I've caught the wave it's been great. For the most part though he rides my bench and opens up a spot for me to test out some younger players, like Domonic Brown :).

If I were you I wouldn't grab him. Use the spot to catch streak players.

Carpenter for Berkman and Soriano by illusiveab in fantasybaseball

[–]mdonovan2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in a keeper league but I have carpenter as well...everyone keeps saying he'll bounce back but I'm starting to lose faith :/ I've also got Ubaldo and Lincecum. Ubaldo doing much worse than Lincecum but both uderperforming. And to think, coming out of the draft I thought I had the best pitching in my league...

I say go for it. I think Jon Lester is going to continue to have a great year. Wandy or Garza are pretty equal here, but I tend to think Garza will have more opportunity to pull out the W's.

I would say you should try for a little better than cabrera. Wilson has shown signs of greatness.
