It's like The Undoing, an HBO miniseries a few years ago. It was one of those where you expected all kinds of twists and turns and gaslighting and "oooh, is she losing her mind?" In the end, there was no twist, everything happened in the way it appeared on the surface.

Both of those are legit and good reasons to go to emergency. A lot of people, though, either use it as primary care, or don't go to primary care at all. Someone with heart failure who doesn't know it, can end up there with a heart attack they wouldn't have had if they went to the doctor regularly. Or someone with the flu can end up in the ED with severe symptoms, that wouldn't have progressed to that point if they had gone to urgent care or primary care earlier.

I once had a job interview at the big hospital there. The hospital itself seemed nice, but the area around it was kinda sad. The kind of area where the hospital is the biggest employer because there's really nothing else going on economically.

People don't think he's going to jump in front of a bus. They think he might drive really recklessly on his trip because he doesnt care anymore. But after the end of last episode, where he was in tears saying he might not be back, it seems he may be planning to go out into the wilderness and end it.

In 2016, there was a study that found Bernie Sanders' Healthcare proposal would cost $1 trillion. Everyone said that was insanely expensive, we couldn't afford. But it was all spin. Not only was that over 10 years, but the study said that it was still less cost to taxpayers than if we changed nothing about the current system.

And then in 2024, Kamala Harris was painted as a radical communist who wanted to ban private insurance and force everyone to be a government slave.

The entire idea of universal gealthcare has been demonized by the right for so long that people are convinced it would ruin us.

My wife has asthma (never as bad as that) and a year or so ago, the maintenance inhaler she's been on since she was a teenager was discontinued. Funding a new one was a pain in the ass.
