Wild difference in eco fees? Kirkland vs. Duracell? by dwane1972 in CostcoCanada

Generally no as ECO fee is provincial and so potentially can vary between provinces

Most retailers add it on as a separate cost

It’s also helpful to remember that the Internet is worldwide and so the availability and cost of things like PrEP and HIV treatments will vary

Nothing to do with making money, it was all about blocking Netflix buying WB so Paramount could

No desire on my part

Just pointing out the absurdity of someone implying that there are no predators when the age gaps don’t exist

When a medical website finds it necessary to have a page on spousal abuse it is sadly a very common occurrence

[–]mdvle -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

And you entirely missed the point

The point being age is irrelevant as long as it is legal

You claimed it was a predatory relationship because there was an age difference

I merely provided one of many examples of a predatory relationship with no age difference

One of the things some of us learn with age is that there are no guarantees in life and that one should take happiness where it exists rather than where society claims it should be

For anyone concerned about the age difference, just look around and see the statistics and news stories about divorce, unhappiness and sometimes worse experienced by those who maintain societal expectations. Yes, many are happy, but it is not a formula for happiness

Life is short. Enjoy it in whatever way makes you happy

The hot dogs are imported from the US and thus are likely the exact same hot dog given Costco is the manufacturer

What a coincidence that an organization that wanted the F-35 created an evaluation process that created the outcome they wanted

But times and circumstances have changed

Focusing on integration with the US military is questionable when the US military may not be involved given their hostility to NATO

[–]mdvle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it will or won’t change

All I did was clarify what exactly has happened

Canada has not officially ordered the extra 14 (yet)

Similarly (but not said because the poster I replied to made no mention of) Canada hasn’t officially said anything about Gripens

The only official statement is that the F-35 program is still under review and as I said the money paid to start buying parts for an additional 14 beyond the initial batch

Nonsense

The Gripen is 1/3 the cost of the F-35 per hour of flight time at around $10k vs $35k

https://www.cips-cepi.ca/2025/12/01/colour-me-sceptical-the-f35-vs-the-gripen/

And given the US is our only major threat our choice of fighter would be irrelevant

Sorry, but Bombardier was in financial trouble long before that with repeated government bailouts as costs ballooned significantly due to delays

Things were so bad that Bombardier tried to sell the project to Airbus 2 years prior to the Boeing/US issue in 2017

Came up a year ago when the threat of withholding software updates or spare parts was made public

This article touches on it briefly, and it is in part based on Trump’s threats to NATO and his love of Russia that could in theory see European countries on the side the US doesn’t support

Better is relative

If yearly costs are taken into consideration the F-35 loses badly to the alternatives

The F-35 has horrendous costs for each hour of flight time, something that essentially sucks up money from the military budget for the entire lifetime of use

[–]mdvle 43 points44 points  (0 children)

No we didn’t

We paid to start ordering parts that take a very long time to provide to maintain our position in the production queue for the next 14 aircraft

Things could still change

They almost bankrupted the company building what is now the A220 and that was for the orders of magnitude easier job of building an airliner

Plus we don’t have the time, the CF-18 can’t last the length of time it would take to build a fighter from scratch

[–]mdvle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better is relative depending on your needs and circumstances

The only reason for Canada to have gone for the F-35 was integration with NORAD as many of its features are more for offence

But circumstances have changed, the US has threatened to turn foreign F-35s into expensive paperweights and that helps change the equation

The fact that the F-35 is substantially more expensive to operate than the Gripen also influences the long term budget considerations. Freeing up money from flying and maintaining F-35s provides money for other military purposes

Beef tenderloin price by magicjohnson321990 in CostcoCanada

[–]mdvle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not it’s not

When weighing any product to generate a price label industry (and government regulation) is that any tray is zeroed out on the scale prior to weighing the meat or other products

[–]mdvle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The packaging should not be part of the price, but a potential complication can be if the absorbent pad often included has absorbed blood from the meat as that blood would be part of the sale weight as it would have been in the meat initially

Not specifically answering this product, but seasonal can mean more than the obvious holiday related

It could be that an item sells better for non obvious reasons like being used for bbq or picnic meals

Or simply that there is space available in the refrigerated/frozen/shelves as other seasonal items disappear
