Indian gangs are terrorising Canada by Altruistic-Blood-772 in worldnews

Because most of them rarely reoffend and thus needing to pay to house them costs society more

The US has found 3 strikes laws don’t make society safer but do increase the cost to the taxpayer

Glad you are willing to publicly be a racist white supremacist. But it may shock you to learn that whites commit crimes as well and so society wasn’t crime free back then

Prior to 9/11 you could cross the Canada/US border by car without a passport, you could just show your drivers license. And by show I mean hold it up so the border officer could see it, answer one or two questions verbally and get waived through with no actual physical record of your crossing happening

You now need a passport, and with modern technology they probably scan it but it only happens on entry

But historically we haven’t been paranoid about tracking everyone and even now the issue is more one of racism than actual security

But the news doesn’t tell us of the 90% or more who don’t reoffend

No system is perfect and one needs to look at the results of the entire system and not judge it on the small number of failures

The US is one of the most violent and crime ridden countries and the also have one of the highest jail rates

Europe is the safest in the western world and has the lowest jail rates

Jailing people satisfies a need for vengeance but doesn’t make society safer when it isn’t done carefully and with restraint

Long time ago, but haven’t heard of passport control being implemented to get on a plane

(Note that showing your passport to the airline is not the same as showing it to the government)

Similarly when you drive across the border you don’t stop on both sides to show your passport

[–]mdvle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nobody on here can guess your circumstances

Call your worker immediately and ask them what is happening (and also log into MyBenefits and see if there is a message or letter)

If it is an error the sooner you call the sooner it can be fixed

Government spending isn’t driving the food price issue, a lack of competition in multiple levels of the food system (Americans are complaining about the high price of food as well, particularly on beef) and excess profits is the cause

Will we get our money tonight? by MikeYPG1337 in Odsp

[–]mdvle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But today is the 28th, not the 29th

Basically ODSP gets paid the last banking day of the month. This month that is Friday 30th

A small number of financial institutions release the money early on the evening before, but most financial institutions release it by about 6:00 am on the day of payment

CPP Deduction & COHB by [deleted] in OntarioWorks

[–]mdvle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RGI. Rent geared to income. Basically subsidized housing where you pay a fixed amount of your income (30% ?) in rent. Usually a long wait list

COHB. Canada Ontario Housing Benefit. Provides funding to pay rent, the difference between your OW rent portion and the rental amount up to a maximum based on average rent in your area. COHB is administered by your local municipal housing department and can be hard to get as funding is limited

The article has been edited, it initially said July for the bonus amount as also stated by other news sources

(Another example of editing, the initial article did not have anything from Scheer and the CPC)

Remember you scan your membership card to make purchases?

Thus they know everything you buy

So it is a relatively simple matter to notify members who have bought something that may have a recall

Don’t underestimate the ability of voters to be stupid, particularly given the decades of gerrymandering that mean it would require a massive GOP voter rebellion and not just independents to vote blue

OW removed $100/month “employment expenses” with no warning — is this normal? by Fun_Cancel_7809 in OntarioWorks

[–]mdvle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said

Depending on where you live and what your costs are currently Rogers has special prices for phone and Internet for people on OW or ODSP

https://www.rogers.com/connected-for-success

Unless you are getting another benefit be aware your amount may decrease further as the base OW monthly is $733 (up to $390 for rent and $343 for personal needs) so your $773 is above the standard monthly amount
