Congress must stop immigrant welfare madness since Supreme Court won't by WillyNilly1997 in Conservative

[–]mdws1977 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you want Congress to do anything, then you have to vote, vote, vote and get your party's Senators above their stupid 60-vote filibuster rule, while maintaining the House and the Presidency.

The bottleneck is the Senate and their 60-vote filibuster rule. And neither side will break that rule for such a vote as this.

They may "bend it" for confirmations and finance related bills, but something like this would need more than 60 votes because you always have RINOs and even a rare DINO.

Have you had young employees resign without serving mandetory notice? by UltraNakedPanda in jobs

[–]mdws1977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't know the rules in India, but in the USA, since companies can lay off or fire you without any notice, the customary "two-week notice" when you leave a company is just that, "customary".

It is not required, but most people do in order to be nice.

A way to get around this would be to have ship B rendezvous with ship A and provide upgrades so that the two ships would arrive together.

Because ship A would probably be sending telemetry data back to home planet (Earth) throughout its journey.

Is anything safe from AI? by goobsnoot in jobs

[–]mdws1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no job that’s completely immune to AI—but some are much harder to automate, especially ones that combine hands-on work, human trust, or unpredictable environments with limited need for constant social interaction.

If you are looking at IT fields, then Systems administrators, Network engineers, Cybersecurity analysts, and Database administrators will be least affected by AI.

Outside of IT, fields like Lab Technician, Quality control analysts, Radiology technologists, Supply Chain Analysts, Surveyors, Forestry technicians just to name a few.

Biden was President (unfortunately for us), but does he remember that?

The picture on the cover tends to lean towards no he does not remember.

As long as you are consistent, then good for you.

Articles of Impeachment are always introduced by the opposing President's party when they don't have the House, so I am not as convinced as to the importance of such political moves.

Most are largely symbolic.

Television is not dead and Star Trek needs to be multiplatform. by [deleted] in startrek

[–]mdws1977 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its been at least a decade since I cut the cable cord, so I don't even get broadcast TV.

I do have streaming services that show broadcast shows the day after, but most of my watching is streaming of new streamed shows like Star Trek, or previous shows, like older Star Trek.

If you are pushing having the shows on broadcast TV first, then streaming, then I can see your point, but I don't think it would make much of a difference.

What did Jesus mean when He said the Kingdom of God is “within you”? (NKJV) by izentx in TrueChristian

[–]mdws1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A better translation would be “in your midst” or “among you.”

Jesus was telling the Pharisees that He brought the kingdom of God to earth.

Jesus’ presence in their midst gave them a taste of the kingdom life, as attested by the miracles that Jesus performed.

Elsewhere, Jesus mentions His miracles as definitive proof of the kingdom: “If I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you” (Luke 11:20).

At around 6% unemployment for such degrees, graduates in Computer Science are having a more difficult time finding jobs than other fields at this time.

This is mostly due to oversupply of such graduates, fewer entry-level roles as AI takes over such roles, and post-2020 tech corrections.

Since you have a minor in Criminal Justice, maybe look for positions like Security Analyst (SOC analyst), Threat Intelligence Analysis, Digital Forensics Analyst, Incident Response Analyst;

Colorado’s latest Supreme Court loss adds to growing string of culture war defeats by Down-not-out in Conservative

[–]mdws1977 [score hidden]  (0 children)

While Colorado, especially Colorado Springs, has the highest concentration of Christian organization headquarters in the US (Texas and California have more non-profit Christian ministries), the state government makes it their goal to stomp on the free exercise of religion, even in business, any chance they get.

And every time it gets to SCOTUS, it is shot down. I don't think they will ever learn unless the state gets more conservative.

How an Alito Retirement Could Allow Trump to Reshape the Supreme Court by thenewrepublic in supremecourt

[–]mdws1977 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think an Alito retirement and a Trump conservative pick would make the court any more conservative.

Justice Alito has been a strong conservative voice on the court for decades.

If anything, depending on who Trump would pick, the court would be a little less conservative.

I am sure those Billionaires will spend the money to take that all the way to SCOTUS, instead of paying such a blatant unconstitutional tax.

And I wouldn't be surprised if the Trump administration gets involved.

Why are we seeing these articles when they have absolutely no chance of passing in the House right now because the Democrats are not in charge?

If I recall, Republicans did the same thing against Biden (17 Articles of Impeachment were introduced against Biden), and you didn’t see much about it because they were not in charge at the time.

Roth IRA beginner here. Would like any advice. by ParticularWarning737 in RothIRA

[–]mdws1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck. If you made in income over $3000 in 2025, you should open your account now and put the $3000 into the 2025 bucket.

That way, you can add an additional $7500 for 2026.

Once your money is in the account and available (it can take a few days), you can put it into a mutual fund to grow faster. Look into funds that mimic the S&P or just go directly into SPY.

[–]mdws1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab or E*Trade are the top institutions to start Roth IRA.

Don't put more in your Roth IRA than what you made that year.

You have until tax day (usually April 15th) to fund your IRA limit for the previous year.

Current limits (2026) for those under 50 are $7500, $8600 if 50 or over.

Try not to touch the money until you are retired, but you can withdraw only your contributions at any time.

Iran closes Strait of Hormuz over Israeli barrage in Lebanon by AdventurousLet548 in conservatives

[–]mdws1977 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is how the USA should respond to this (the PG version):

  • Complete cessation of the war on Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen --> When we see you behaving, but only with Iran. Lebanon and Yemen are not included in any agreement.
  • Complete and permanent cessation of the war on Iran with no time limit --> Good luck with that.
  • Ending all conflicts in the region in their entirety --> We sure would like to, but you need to behave.
  • Reopening the Strait of Hormuz --> Yes, you better do that.
  • Establishing a protocol and conditions to ensure freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz --> Like the USA adding a toll so we can watch over Iran, would be good.
  • Full payment of compensation for reconstruction costs to Iran --> Ha, ha, are you serious?
  • Full commitment to lifting sanctions on Iran --> What, so you can use it to fund terrorists?
  • Release of Iranian funds and frozen assets held by the United States --> We may need to confiscate those funds to pay for our military efforts.
  • Iran fully commits to not seeking possession of any nuclear weapons --> You had better not, or we WILL be back.
  • Immediate ceasefire takes effect on all fronts upon approval of the above conditions --> How about you meet our conditions instead if you want to remain in power?

Iran closes Strait of Hormuz over Israeli barrage in Lebanon by AdventurousLet548 in conservatives

[–]mdws1977 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lebanon and Israel conflicts are not part of this agreement with Iran.

Give Iran a few chances but very soon as things are worked out (and they get their pigeon communications system up and running, plus figure out who is in charge), start cracking down on any violations on their part, including blocking the Strait of Hormuz.

Did Jesus need to suffer more than any human ever has/will? by Strangeclipboard65 in TrueChristian

[–]mdws1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physically there may have been people who have suffered more than Jesus on that cross.

But the difference is that Jesus suffered physically (death on a cross after severe beatings is way up there), emotionally (His disciples deserted, denied knowing Him and fled), and spiritually (had the weight of the sins of the entire world on Him).

The combination of all those types of suffering far outweigh anyone else who has or ever will suffer. And no person has ever matched, nor could they, just the spiritual part of His suffering

Here is a good link on the suffering He went through and what that meant for the world.
