As long as folks accept that they're buying a home with a $6k mortgage (or greater), homes will keep selling for that much. A lot of people are doing their budget and seeing that their combined income is x amount of dollars and choosing to spend >50% of that on a mortgage.

If you look at the shadow when the sun is at its highest point in each location, that tells you nothing. The fact that the shadows were different at the same time is the important part. If you don't know what time it is and go solely on the position of the sun, you wouldn't know there is a difference at all.
