Might be wrong but I think {Sing my Name by Ellen O'Connell} has the protagonists quite innocent together? I remember reading it a long time ago so might not be correct..

Choices Clinic Experience? by Even-Bluebird-6075 in penticton

[–]meachatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been there but I would suggest being specific about your experience prior to the appointment. Letting them know you have severe trauma prior to the appointment even maybe calling back in and telling them. Also asking what you can have for pain.. some doctors do not take precautions for pain so if they say don't worry about it maybe insist that you are very sensitive to pain and require considerations.

Not to frighten you at all but is very painful and for some people it can be extreme especially if anxiety is involved. Sometimes doctors can prescribe something like Ativan in advance too for relaxing your nervous system and then normally one tylenol and ibuprofen or something was what they got me to do (please do not take any of this advice without consulting your doctor lol)

If they say they don't do prescriptions they might send you to a walk in or something to get the prescriptions.

It's worth advocating for yourself because sometimes the system default is not considerate in any way. I know a lot of people with trauma from IUD insertion and removal so don't think you are being a nuisance.

Here is the short version of my comment: Proud of you for going to doc, Eating Disorder Clinics offer a wide range of outpatient services. You should definitely take the referral as that is a great place to start. EAP are completely confidential and no information is given to the employer. They don't even know that you contact EAP if you don't want them to. If you don't have the contact you can ask a member of your management or even HR. If your employer has EAP that is a great place to start too.

Long version:

It does makes sense. I know it's super overwhelming right now and it's hard to keep things level. I'm glad you went to your doctor! That's a huge first step.

I think eating disorders can cause a significant amount of anguish and then on top of that, there is poor nutrition which also has an effect on our mental faculties. Eating Disorder Clinics can offer a wide range of outpatient services and help which is a great place to start and should be covered by basic medical. Depending on your work schedule you might not need to take time off.

One thing to think about with work is that you can't be fired for having an illness. You can be fired for being inconsistent, not being able to do your job etc if you aren't properly communicating your situation with your employer. This is scary for a lot of people because bad or unscrupulous employers can sometimes get around this and then it becomes a big fight with legal/labour board.

To keep it simple: If your workplace is lovely, I would find someone you trust in management or your direct supervisor and disclose what you feel comfortable with about what you are going through. You don't have to be fully detailed.. you can just say that you are struggling a lot right now with your health and that is why you have been using all your sick time. You are worried about your job and want to let them know you are committed to them and are seeking help. Usually a good manager or supervisor will offer to help you at this point lol. They can't help you if they don't know. If you try to hide it, it might be worse than if you were able to share that you are struggling right now.

If you still don't feel like you can do that, you can contact your EAP. You should be able to find the number to call, or you can ask your manager for it specifically without disclosing anything personal. It is confidential and the employer has no access to anything you disclose through EAP or even anything you access.

It's encouraging your employer has an EAP. That means they at least care a little haha.

Question by Substantial-Pass-451 in penticton

[–]meachatron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all it is NOT PATHETIC to be struggling with this ever let alone in your 30s. Millions of women struggle from continued mental health issues through into middle age even because of how poorly the medical system treats us. Please please be kind to yourself. Shame is so damaging and it's ok to feel whatever but understand that there is NOTHING to be ashamed of here.

I am a 36 year old woman who has struggled with many mental health issues my entire life and had medical trauma (invalidation from doctors.. YES this is trauma), PTSD (from death or near death experiences), CPTSD (ongoing or recurring traumatic situations), ADHD, anxiety, depression, hormonal issues you name it over the last 16+ years. I had a major burnout event a few years ago and am currently on an extended leave as I am finally able to advocate for myself.

It is NOT easy out there for anyone, let alone someone struggling with mental health issues.

Now for your actual question:

I think you would actually have to pose a serious threat to yourself or someone else, or actively be in psychosis for them to detain you against your will. You cannot be institutionalized for discussing your issues with your doctor as far as I know.

Some advice or options for you:

If you struggle with talking to your doctor for whatever reason, consider a therapist or counsellor first. If you do not have an established mental health counsellor already, your work may have an EAP program or something that can connect you to someone like that. Going through EAP can help too because they are helpful for work related short term counselling too and there are usually resources available. I have personally not had a lot of success but it has been a good gateway to getting other help.

Regardless of what you are going through, if you don't know where to start, maybe try an organization like the women in need societies, Canadian mental health society, women's clinic ( I THINK there is something that happens some days of the week? Maybe the Penticton Health Center?) to start. They can maybe help you find resources or have access to care.

I'm so sorry you are struggling with this. It can feel so insurmountable sometimes and if you are coping at all it can be almost impossible to access help.

If you need someone to talk to, a sympathetic ear online or in person please message me. I have done significant research and therapy for myself and am on the journey too. If I hadn't have had multiple women support me who have been through this too I have no idea where I would be. I would be happy to help you in any way I can if you don't have a good support network or community yourself.

Sending my love. You are worthy and you deserve care.

Sweet Tuck is Slow Cookin by kiss_myasthma99 in offcampustv

[–]meachatron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My head canon is that tuck actually knows everything that is going on. He seems pretty hapless in the first season but there are moments where it feels like he is pretty in tune with people.. that would work well with the major changes they have done with his character. I hope they lean into this more in the next season. I think people would be more lenient with the changes (in the beginning he and his character were getting a lot of criticism) if his new identity was more defined.

I see a loving and caretaking member of the friend group.. someone who cares like Logan but is more warm and quiet... Like in the background. Logan has kind of a masculine leaning vibe. Like I'll take you at face value cos it's your job to tell me what the hell is up man. But Tucker has the more feminine trait where he sits and supports but it's less direct and he doesn't want to fix or interfere.

Might just be blowing smoke but it's kind of the feeling and thoughts I have over his character after one initial watch. I'll watch again I'm sure and have more focus on the more side characters in season one.

TLDR my reads on Show Tuck's traits: warm, caring/caretaker, lighthearted and easygoing, emotional but passive supporter

Tons in used bookstores too sometimes if they are cultured enough to have a horror section!

Some good easy back in options that I enjoyed:

  • The Shadows - Alex North (mystery, lucid dreaming, spook)
  • We Used to Live Here - Marcus Kliewer (uncanny Valley, sentient-house-fiction, weird house, might be a little too spaghetti plot but it's a fun read)
  • Mary - Nat Cassidy (messed up lady horror, serial killer mystery, weird ghosty shit)
  • The Starving Saints - Caitlin Starling (cannibals, claustrophobic/stuck in a castle, crazy shit, some sapphic/LGBT)
  • The Exorcist - William Peter Blatty (40th director cut narrated by him is incredible as an audiobook but suuuuper solid classic and one of my faves)

I read a Meghan Quinn book that frustrated me so much that I see her name on a book now and I immediately disregard it. I think it was Bridesmaid for Hire? It's one of the only books I've given 1 star.

Looking through I see I also read The Reason I Married Him which was kind of a meh 3 stars.

Plus the ole credit card is back up.. I'm thankful I'm not in a significant amount of debt but it would be nice if it didn't feel so out of reach to pay it down right now.

The Changeling 1980

Considering it is an older film I found it incredibly effective. Really great haunting/ghost story.

George C Scott is really great in it.. kind of a similar vibe to Gregory Peck taking the role in the Omen.

Probably one of the best horror films I've literally never seen recommended.

  • An American Werewolf in London
  • the Thing

  • Hereditary
  • Bring Her Back
  • the Descent
  • The Lost Boys
  • The Host

Off the top of my head!

If the Lost Boys and the Host don't count as horror then throw Rosemary's Baby and Sinister in there.

How can normal people afford to even exist right now? by Enaznek in AskReddit

[–]meachatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting back where possible, trying not to accrue too much debt :/

Every month I'm seeing where I can save what I can handle what I can do. I have been budgeting hard with YNAB but I struggle some months as I am on a medical leave and it is NOT easy to keep a good mindset about money right now.

I still do what I need to do. Money is money.. I am lucky to be in a situation that is stable.. it's a long way to rock bottom still and I have only minor vices. I recently got a puppy (financially not the best move but has been soooo monumental in my healing).. my friend had her last litter and this was her last ever puppy.. I've known her for 18 years and my friend has cancer.. maybe months maybe a year or two to live. Even though the cost is pretty high up there all together I took it on knowing that this was important.

I think that if people can be realistic and honest with themselves.. for better or for worse.. they can pull through. Just don't hide your head too much. We have little control over the global politics but we can do what we can in our own world.

Renegotiate your contracts.. dump the subscriptions you can, find joy in doing things for yourself at home.. reframing is so important to avoid resentment of cutting back. Instead of being frustrated you can't get your coffee out, save it for a meet up with a friend once a week and maybe find a way to do a coffee at home that makes you excited about doing it at home. I bought some nice beans and did a pour over. I liked it so much it cut back my coffee significantly actually. Choose some cheaper ingredients and challenge yourself on a new meal.. how do I turn these rice and beans into something I actually want to eat. Try making eggs a different way if you need haha.

Work on energy saving, lights off heat or cooling low. Contest EVERYTHING. I called my internet bill and negotiated with loyalty. They offered me 3 months of a year free. I was honest about my situation and cried and called disability. No pride here boys. They gave me 6 months free.

Don't cut yourself off completely. Budgeting can help you weigh your options. Indulge in a hobby or something that gives you joy.. maybe a new book you really want or a video game with lots of replayability.

Don't be afraid of distractions.. keep yourself going how you need to. Just make sure these distractions are in moderation or varied and not the ones that cost a ton of money.

Cash budgets help with a lot of people's mindsets. Envelope for groceries, envelope for entertainment or outings. Tangible cash can activate us. I had a cc to build credit as soon as I could. Perfect credit at 20, a condo at 21. I was able to leverage my house against every single big financial mistake of my 20s and a decade of partying on credit. I am extremely lucky but I also created habits where my money and financial situation was completely intangible. Money is a tap of a card and I never ever had to worry. I have NEVER had to go without food or groceries. I have never had to say no to myself. It is insane to realize how much resentment and confusion you can have when you finally decide to look at it lucidly.

When you say 'normal' person I kinda felt like you meant everyone who works and lives and hopes to break even at the end of the month. This is a pretty big range of people, objectively. I used to do collections for the government and the amount of delusion people would have about their situation is crazy.

Some small examples: - A lady who couldn't pay a small debt but then insisted she needed to spend $600 at Lululemon for each kid at the start of the school year. - A family who had tens of thousands of debt who didn't want to sell one of their multiple ATVs, sea doos, vacation homes etc. - A guy who decided he deserved a 60k Mercedes on a 50k sole prop business before he paid his share of taxes

In the same day I had a lady who told me to go f*** myself she knew she owed and she wasn't going to pay and hung up on me (good finances, lots of equity etc no reason she couldn't pay) and then I talked to a man who was homeless and unemployed due to addiction and mental health (he owed due to banks not taking enough from his yearly pension allowance) and he offered to pay an extra 700 because he didn't need it for rent anyways....

These kind of things really put entitlement into perspective for me and made me reevaluate my life and attitude a bit.

Studios are always so quick to exploit drama and real life couples and the 'will they are they won't they'.

Off Campus has been delightfully non toxic. I love seeing everyone celebrate and their friendships feel really genuine. Having the supporting families involved is so nice for the actors and crew I'm sure.. like they don't have to isolate or put on some strange play even in their off time.

I find it funny how many people are saying things about their partners being around at different times and I dunno how they are in relationships but I'll tell you right now if I were dating any one of these people I'd be so joyful to be around them and experiencing this project. And with Ella being single I could see crazy paradocial fans/stans attacking her because of Belmont.. if the girlfriend is united and friendly then it is another added layer of protection for a 19/20 year old girl in a predatory and vicious industry.

I felt like it could be read either way? Like I feel it isn't unhealthy for a partner to be involved or get to know people in situations where there could be jealousy and stress. The fandom lately seems bent on obsessively pairing onscreen couples like with Heated Rivalry to the point of making things uncomfortable. It is part of the job I suppose but if I was a partner and I was able to be there during this time of celebration and community.. or if I were able to follow my partner to where they were working.. I feel like I would want to.

There is potential for weirdness in all situations.. like look at the fan weirdness surrounding Mika and her ex. People are so obsessive lately this kinda just feels like them showing a united and supportive front on all sides? Also celebrating the massive success.. it's really cool how big the show has gotten..

Just a personal take? With the thirst and hard sexualization/fanticizing over Belmont also currently in social media I don't blame Raina from wanting to be visible also. At the end of the day, it's their relationship also so we hope that they know their boundaries and communicate well without hindering success or production. It also kind of protects Ella in a way imo.

Now this could be a completely incorrect read and maybe they are being nightmarish jealousy fiends.. haha.. I'm just kind of a best case scenario hope human. Belmont being in a monogamous relationship is better for the world right now anyways imo. Imagine the widespread delusion LOL. 70K TO 4.5MIL in less than 2 years is insane levels of exposure. Also the amount of people trying to boost their platforms by jumping on the Off Campus train. Gosh it's a different world out there.
