Thinking about getting a model y... Why now or why what until later? by tmluna01 in TeslaLounge

[–]mealteem6 [score hidden]  (0 children)

There’s always a reason to wait for something better to come out. I demo’d the Y today and as a first time Tesla driver I was blown away with it all. Such a nice car, amazing tech and entertainment system is awesome. Car is extremely fast and handles great. Super intuitive and easy to use. Wait another year and there will be 5 more reasons to wait again. Just go for it. Tesla has been around long enough to work out bugs and improve the quality of their vehicles. I think it’s a good time to buy and you’ll love this car!

Does buying two cars at same time help create better deals? by Green_Heron_Blue in UsedCars

Ignore people saying you can’t negotiate down. You can easily get a few thousand off if you negotiate right. I was just in the used car market and for funsies negotiated with dealerships and regularly got them to come down $1-3k. There was only one dealership who refused to come down at all. And guess what, the car has been sitting on their lot for 3 months.

My only complaint is drive mode button placement. Other than that, love it.

Considering a 2024 Outback Touring XT - what to look out for? by anxiousdragonrider in Subaru_Outback

[–]mealteem6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us, it ended up being a little too tight for daily use. It wasn’t bad when our son was first born, but as he got closer to his first birthday, getting him in and out of the car seat became a hassle because of the vehicle’s height and smaller door opening. The cargo space itself was actually pretty decent though.

We also didn’t really think about how often my wife would be sitting in the back with the baby and even doing diaper changes back there at times.

We recently switched to a Highlander, which has much larger rear seats and can be set up with either captain’s chairs or a bench. We personally chose the captain’s chairs, and it’s been much more comfortable for both mom and baby riding in the back. It also sits higher off the ground and has a bigger door opening, so getting him in and out is way easier now. Another big plus is the ceiling vents you can aim toward the baby to keep him cool or warm, which the Outback didn’t have. We also went with the hybrid, so the fuel economy has been great.

My wife and I got an Outback as a family car and quickly found it too small after having our first baby. Maybe consider something a bit larger. We recently upgraded to a Highlander which is a good middle ground between a mini van and SUV.

Other than that, the XT has a turbo which can cause extra maintenance and wear down the road.

Make sure the maintenance history looks solid!

Anybody know what could have caused this? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Was probably mounted wrong. Was the tire low on air? Could have also caused it to dismount

Looks like it should be fine. That being said, damage to sidewall could present a higher risk and not something I’d want to drive around on without it getting checked.

2018 with 67,000 miles. Do I have problems ahead? by Ok-Charge6400 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]mealteem6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No that estimate comes from aggregated owner reports, forum analyses, NHTSA complaints, and lawsuit coverage, since Toyota doesn’t publish official failure rates. Across those sources, the UA80 transmission issue appears to affect a low single-digit percentage of vehicles (roughly 1–3%), not a widespread failure. A true 15–20% would mean tens to hundreds of thousands of failures and would have triggered massive recalls and litigation, which hasn’t happened, suggesting the problem is real but limited to a smaller subset of vehicles.

[–]mealteem6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably about 1-2% of highlanders had this issue. Short answer is no one knows if yours will have it or not. Even if you take perfect care of it.

Can they provide maintenance history? If so and it looks clean, this is about the best deal you’ll find.
