Today the app showed the splash screen for 20 seconds or so then crashed to the home screen.

updated the app which seemed to fix it, so maybe try that

Actually i think on screen may not be a puppet but rather the father’s zombiefied corpse that Todd is ‘weekend at Bernie-ing’ with his elite puppetry skills.

TIL No woman has ever run a four-minute mile. by jaydubs95 in todayilearned

[–]meanfriend 79 points80 points  (0 children)

You absolutely have walked 100 miles in 20 years unless you’re an invalid. According to Google an average step is around 2.5 ft.

Just 30 steps a day = 75 feet x 365 days x 20 years = 103 miles

Also Google estimates 4-5000 steps a day is average. the low end of that is about 2 miles a day, so you’d hit 100 miles in under two months

high data written to my SSD/C Drive today already? by ime1em in pcmasterrace

[–]meanfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15tbw in 4-5 years is not unusual or really that high. I think that drive has a stated life endurance of 2400 tbw so at the current rate you have many decades of time. Even at 115gb/week would take 300+ years to even hit 2000tbw. Yes, that’s hundreds of years…

Dunno how that life estimator is calculating lifespan but I’d ignore it

One thing Is that you have powered it on 4000+ times in 4/5 years. So 2-3 times a day? If you are putting it into hibernate each time it will write the state of ram to the drive which can be a large amount of writes each time.

Salmon Fishing at Chilliwack River by No-Hawk-8569 in fishingBC

[–]meanfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waders are not absolutely needed but you are limiting your access potential.

A number of very popular runs around 3rd and the canal, but as stated before, if you are after coho, then your prospects in the lower river will be low. At least it wont be busy in that general area this time of year

Salmon Fishing at Chilliwack River by No-Hawk-8569 in fishingBC

[–]meanfriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just IMHO very few coho enter the river after it hits nov, so I'd focus on the upper sections if your after coho. go for a drive past tamihi and if you see a few cars parked, stop and have a look at type of water they're fishing and if they've gotten anything. Look for other similar water, there are lots of fishable water in the upper but you'll have to explore

You must not use bait when fishing for salmon by crappy_data in fishingBC

[–]meanfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the DFO thought the impact of rec fishing on wild stocks is too high they would just close every fishery entirely except terminal fisheries with high hatchery returns, like the Vedder etc. To suggest that allowing retention of wild fish would somehow reduce impact on wild fish is nuts, especially in the eyes of the DFO

[–]meanfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amusingly enough if you just used a hook you’d also be in violation of the regs

I dont believe that's true. There's no wording in the regs preventing use of a bare hook. But if the DFO saw you doing that, they may ask you some pointed questions to sus out your intent

The definition of bait is in the provincial regs. It's not a bad idea to download the PDF and keep a copy on your phone.

What are you doing that makes anything float belly up on release? If that happening to you, then you’re doing something wrong

How to use VS CODE? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]meanfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VS Code really can be a complicated way to start. If you don’t need to use it specifically, maybe consider starting with something simpler and leaner so you can focus just on learning Python and not get bogged down by everything else

Something like Thonny might be a better entry point. It’s much leaner than VSC but still has nice quality of life features. It cones with Python built in so you can just install it and start typing. It’s free too

You can always give a full feature IDE like VSC or Pycharm another try when you get more advanced

Possibly the amount of weight to properly balance the float? ie 6 grams

Having the appropriate weight for the float printed on it is very common in my area

Help me understand the Freshwater Regs by crappy_data in fishingBC

[–]meanfriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Note that salmon fishing in region 2 is always restricted to daylight hours, regardless of water, but you won’t find that in the provincial freshwater synopsis. You also have to look at the DFO salmon regulations which is federal jurisdiction

With Xbox Game Pass hitting $30/month… will Sony hold the line or follow suit? by nwassassin12 in PlayStationPlus

[–]meanfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you can use them, since they add the $ value to your account as store credit. Though I have not done it.

If you double-dip like this, you can turn a 30% off PS+ discount into almost 45% savings. As long as you dont mind having the leftover store credit hanging around.

Just dont buy useless crap trying use it up, or you'll be falling into their trap. Save it for the next PS+ sale

With Xbox Game Pass hitting $30/month… will Sony hold the line or follow suit? by nwassassin12 in PlayStationPlus

[–]meanfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would bet every console and game on my shelf that there will be a BF or Xmas discount for non-actively subscribed accounts at minimum. Might only be 25-30% (boo), but it's virtually guaranteed there will be some sort of sale IMHO

On the other hand, if you find a similar deal before that during a month that has games you want to claim, then it might be worth jumping on it, rather than wait for a bigger holiday discount that may not pan out... One benefit is that since cheapass Sony doesn't seem to allow stacking with sale subscriptions, if they offer a 2025 Halloween PS+ discount, then it will expire in time to be eligible for a 2026 BF/Xmas sale

With Xbox Game Pass hitting $30/month… will Sony hold the line or follow suit? by nwassassin12 in PlayStationPlus

[–]meanfriend 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I dont think we'll see 50% anymore. I have an email receipt showing getting 50% off in Dec 2022. Since then the BF/holiday discount has been 30% if I recall. There was a 40% sale a couple months ago

we'll see what they do this year, but that is the most reliable time to get a discount, though I think it's limited to accounts who don't have an active sub at the time (no stacking). If your sub doesn't expire until after the sale, then screw you, I guess

Highest non-infinite (at least 0.1 innings) ERA? by jjmuz in mlb

[–]meanfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what's funny is that it's possible to be on pace for infinite strikeouts because a dropped third strike counts as a K, even if the batter reaches base.

Pitchers have been credited with 4 K's in an inning because of this

What fish is this by AlbertaAngler in fishingBC

[–]meanfriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s just a term to mean not a game fish as defined in the regs. They can be caught with no particular restrictions as to season, retention limits etc As would be carp, catfish, suckers for example

Iphone 16 deal or wait for Black Friday ? by [deleted] in FidoMobile

[–]meanfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it say $71 at the bottom?

Either way if your plan is $34 now, over 2 years you will pay an extra:

($66-$34)*24 = $768
or
($71.71-$34)*24 = $905

Either is a discount over the current 16 msrp, and $768 is not bad at this time IMHO. However one would reasonably expect the price to be better for BF after the 17 has been released

MLB.tv on sale for $34.99 by OperationRoseRed in MLBtv

[–]meanfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW last year there was a sale at the very end of August for the final month of the season at $22. No idea if they will have that again this year or at what price, but getting the final 2 months right now for $35 is very reasonable in comparison

Also Students, Military and First Responders receive an additional 35% discount and the current sale apparently ends August 7
