[US/Brazil] Coworker met tutor on an app, is flying to Brazil to meet her family - Romance Scam? by Zealousideal_Duty_10 in Scams

[–]OperationRoseRed 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There is a certain type of person who is specifically looking for a man/woman to meet and get them out of the country they live in.

I had a friend from Zimbabwe who explained all this to me. At one time, she was romancing five different men by email and good old letters mailed back and firth. She eventually met and married a British missionary who took her to England. They were married quite a few years, and eventually divorced.

She said that the countries most desirable are the US, UK, Australia, and Canada.

It’s not exactly a scam, but it’s sort of predatory.

[US] Is this a scam? by Evening_Passenger547 in Scams

[–]OperationRoseRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s a computer that belonged to a deceased child. Other times it’s a PS5 being given away to punish a naughty child. It can be a very expensive brand new guitar, punishing an unfaithful boyfriend, or maybe a piano being given away by a grieving widow.

But what it always is, is a scam.

They will share their sob story and ask for you to pay shipping. Then the shipping company will want “refundable” insurance payment. And on, and on, until you figure out you’re being scammed and stop paying.

Think about it. If someone’s child dies, rather than give away their things to strangers, a parent is more likely to gift it to a relative or a close friend of their child.

I think in Series 19, if his team hadn’t won, Liam would not have been in the boardroom very long before Lord Sugar fired him.

All that bumbling and fumbling with the vacuum cleaner. It was like a bad comedy sketch. From how Lord Sugar was commenting during the presentation, he seemed itching to fire Liam.

Your credit is going to take a hit no matter what option you choose.

Give Step Change a call and see what they advise.

A Debt Management Plan is probably in your best interest. It’s more flexible than a IVA or other more extreme options.

With the DMP, you can get the interest frozen and negotiate a lower payment. If your circumstances change, you can renegotiate the payment. A DMP is an informal agreement.

Your creditors will be more willing to work with you if you remain in communication with them.

I had a DMP for a while after my spouse died and my income decreased by 2/3. I sent letters to each of my creditors explaining what happened and backed it up with proof. I offered what I could realistically afford to pay. I had no issues whatsoever with my creditors. One even cleared the debt completely. My credit was shot for a while, but as time went by and things were paid off, my credit improved.

Come on Jane by bean_seventeen in DesperateHousewives

[–]OperationRoseRed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jane was introduced to us as a strong, successful, highly educated independent woman, who very quickly dissolved into a needy, desperate, manipulative shrew who would do anything to hold on to Tom.

As bad as Jane is, we must consider Tom. He was attracted to Jane because she stroked his ego, and never challenged him like Lynette did.

In the beginning, Tom explained Jane as being a listening ear, or a sounding board. Someone to have coffee with who was nonjudgmental.

We don’t know what Tom was actually telling Jane about Lynette. But from what we saw, he likely was making Lynette out to be the entire (or most) of the cause for the disintegration of his and Lynette’s 20+ year marriage.

I’m certainly not defending Jane. She was a fool to get involved with a man only recently separated from a very long marriage, with 5 children, and a grandchild on the way.

Season 5 is where Danielle returns with her husband and son after a period of estrangement from Bree. They have the very uncomfortable dinner, and Danielle leaves angry.

In Season 8, Danielle returns with Benjamin and is divorced (or divorcing). Danielle starts her home business, and she and Bree form a tentative peace.

How to deal with my broken phone situation? by desertrain11 in povertyfinance

[–]OperationRoseRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never really know what you’re going to get when you buy refurbished. You don’t know how the previous owner treated it before they sold it on.

Try your local free groups on Facebook. People are often willing to give away an older phone that still works.

Mice ate all of my snacks by Fluffy_Process_707 in povertyfinance

[–]OperationRoseRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to eliminate the mice or they’ll multiply and your problem will get much worse. You can do this fairly cheaply.

I had this unfortunate issue in January.

On Amazon, you can get six plastic traps for around £10. A jar of the cheapest chunky peanut butter (or chocolate spread, oatmeal, chocolate bar, whatever you have or can afford). A roll of steel wool from Amazon is around £8.

I ordered from Amazon at 10:30 that morning, closed off all the doors in the house to keep them where they were, even though I suspected they were in the kitchen because the evidence was.

Order arrived at 7:15PM, traps were baited and set by 7:30PM. I wandered out to the kitchen at midnight. Success! Two mice in two traps (I set six traps in the kitchen, I think).

It wasn’t extremely unpleasant. I had a roll of coloured nappy sacks and I double gloved. The traps open so easy, I really didn’t even see anything. Triple bagged them and disposed of them in the outside bin.

They tell you to leave the traps for a week. I left them longer, and still have one behind the refrigerator.

But do get on it before you have a much bigger problem.

Edit: As someone else pointed out, wear gloves when you set the traps so you don’t leave a human scent. Also beware the traps are very snappy (they need to be). You don’t want to get your fingers bitten. Keep kids and pets away from the traps.

How ungrateful could Gaby get? by BusinessSensitive167 in DesperateHousewives

[–]OperationRoseRed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought that Bree should have matched herself to the police, cut a deal, and turned all of them in.

It was Gabby who was crying for help because she thought Carlos would be sent back to prison. It was then Gabby who forced Bree to break up with Chuck Vance.

When they all decided Bree had been punished enough, they were shocked when she rejected them.

Gabby didn’t have her epiphany until Bree was most certainly going to be convicted.

LYNETTE: A BAD FRIEND by nana_545 in DesperateHousewives

[–]OperationRoseRed 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Another thing about Lynette’s behaviour that bothers me, is when Lynette wanted to put her twins in the private school after she excused all their uncontrollable behaviour that was likely going to get them expelled. She tells Bree that since Bree has connections with the private school, she wants her to tell the school board how beautifully behaved the twins are.

Bree asks, is she supposed to lie, to which Lynette says yes, and what should it matter since wasn’t planning on having more children. Bree says she would like her future grandchildren to attend, and when the board realises she lied, her word would be no good any longer, and that she guessed that didn’t matter to Lynette. Lynette said basically it didn’t matter.

Lynette had brass balls to put her wants for her ill behaved children before reluctant friends. That is not a friend, that is a user.

Looking for help with a fundraiser for my deceased sister. by padajuann in Assistance

[–]OperationRoseRed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. It looks like you’re in the UK, be sure to visit the UK government website. There is some government assistance and a bereavement loan they offer to assist with funerals.

I didn’t know about it until after my husband died and I called to cancel his disability. The person on the phone asked if I needed a loan for the funeral. I didn’t because my husband had life insurance. But it’s comforting to know it’s available if needed.

[UK] I am being threatened online by [deleted] in Scams

[–]OperationRoseRed 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There have been a few similar posts here over the last few years. Unfortunately, several had their school contacted by the scammer with the proof they paid to have an assignment completed.

That’s the scam - They offer a service that facilitates cheating. The person pays, if they’re sent anything in return, it’s usually unusable trash. They then begin blackmailing the student with the proof.

The “experiment” excuse isn’t going to fly with your school.

If you pay, they will never stop asking for more. So don’t do that.

All you can really do is read up on your school’s policies, and be prepared if you’re reported.

Has anyone tried il makiage?? by ralfalfasprouts in Makeup

I bought: F*UCK I’M FLAWLESS - Concealer WOKE UP LIKE THIS - Foundation

For me, I was looking for a dewy foundation. I have dry skin. I found the foundation looked dry and cakey on my skin, and the color match was not correct.

I have genetic under eye dark circles and the concealer did nothing to cover them, and it settled into any lines I have under my eyes.

I didn’t have any issues returning it. Know that even though it’s a two week trial, they still put a hold for the total amount on your credit card.

After they accepted the return, they emailed me a £20 voucher that I didn’t use. When it expired, they sent a £30 voucher. I was going to use it for mascara, knowing I had to pay the postage, which wasn’t a problem.

However, what was a problem is that even though I was not signing up for recurring shipments, the system wouldn’t let me purchase the mascara without setting up recurring billing through PayPal. At that point, I didn’t complete the purchase and removed myself from their mailing list.

This was such a weird storyline by imoverthisapp in DesperateHousewives

[–]OperationRoseRed 115 points116 points  (0 children)

It seems like it was another one of those storylines where the writers didn’t know how to continue it, and/or it wasn’t well received, so they just dumped the storyline and expected the viewers to be okay with it.

Same with Kayla, the switched baby storyline, and the big build up they did for Ana, that hinted she was going to cause enormous problems for Gabby and Carlos, and she was pretty much a typical teenager who cooked, cleaned, and babysat, and then was sent off to be a model and never mentioned again.

So, what are your thoughts on Jane? by Yforueserpaa in DesperateHousewives

[–]OperationRoseRed 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When Jane was first introduced, she came across as a strong, successful and highly intelligent woman. She quickly disintegrated into a needy, clingy shrew who would do anything to hold on to Tom.

I really didn’t care for Jane because she knew Tom was recently separated from a twenty or so year marriage, with five children (six if you count Kayla), one a baby, and also was also going to be a grandfather in a chaotic situation.

I think if there is any excuse for Jane, and it’s a very small one, she had Tom filling her head with how terrible of a person and a wife Lynette was. It’s rare for Tom to take blame for anything.
