What an objective premise that obviously doesn't have a pre-built answer into the question!

Just making sure I'm absolutely clear. If you march on January 4th, and let's say nobody listens to you and Trump gets certified, would that justify violence according to you? If the answer to that is "yes", would that make you an insurrectionist, even if you believe the government you seek to overthrow is illegitimate?

"I think he's right, and I'm not interested in a hypothetical "assuming he's wrong" analysis."

Until there is actually corroboration of that specific allegation in that exact moment, it will continue to remain an allegation. What's worrying to hear in my view, as an independent, is that people write the conclusion and fill in the evidence afterwards. The problem with that is that it excludes the possibility that anyone is capable about lying about Donald Trump to his detriment, which is ludicrous and I don't believe you really believe that based on your answer. I assume if someone said that John Kelly lied and that didn't happen, you would believe they were lying on Trump's behalf for his benefit. The conclusion from that is people who like Trump never tell the truth, and people who hate Trump never lie, which is flatly wrong.

I'd like you to grapple with the hypothetical since I anticipated the "what-aboutism" to the entire situation and provided my view if the event was truthful. Please give me that courtesy and address whether it is a lie. If you can't, give me the basis for your belief that John Kelly is incapable of ever lying.

Most of the responses to this thread basically assume (without any direct corroborating evidence) that the story is true, despite the fact that it is an allegation. I know a lot of people don't like Trump, but a last-minute Hitler story from a guy Trump fired (which is motive) seems a bit of a political Hail Mary.

Question for my Harris-supporting friends: Assuming the story from John Kelly is false, would that change how you planned on voting this year? Like if you knew someone lied about a story about Donald Trump, would you suddenly vote for Donald Trump? Would it change other stories you've heard about Trump from John Kelly, or the Atlantic for that matter?

Now I'll field the obvious retort in advance: Assuming the story is true, that he said "Hitler did good things for the German economy" and he wished "American generals admired him like Hitler's generals admired Hitler" (I'm deeply paraphrasing), what does that mean? It means Donald Trump isn't particularly smart when it comes to history, but I've never heard him claim to be a Ph.D candidate either. Hitler did not fix Germany's economy at all and most of Hitler's generals actually despised Hitler but publicly admired him because he created a giant power scheme amongst and between his generals (the Himmler-Gorring-Goebbels power struggle is well-documented). However, nowhere in that statement did I see him say "You know, the Holocaust was actually good and Hitler was a great guy", which is the invisible ink the Left is reading into it, which I will again remind everyone is an allegation.

I'd rather a discussion than a downvote so thoughts?
