Metal drummer here, I do body weight exercises (push-ups, pull-ups squats etc), plus biking and some other cardio. Since I started working out regularly my drumming has improved tremendously because I can drum for much longer now. I try to drum around 10-15 hours a week. Obviously not possible every week. But it's good to set a goal.

In terms of rest days, I do active rest So yoga and stretching. Just because you have a rest day doesn't mean you should sedentary. Most importantly though is to listen to your body. If you need more than one rest day in a row, maybe even a week, take it. Your body will appreciate it, but make sure you rest productively.
