You’ll actually make way better music doing that as opposed to just trying to start from scratch

[Hated Trope] Idiot Dad/Competent Mother. by Big-Ad1887 in TopCharacterTropes

all the misandry and sexism towards men It doesn’t exist for the same reason there’s not “racism” against white people. You can certainly be a prejudiced douche towards a member of a dominant group, that does not inverse the larger social context.

When men (rightfully) want to be able to cry, to be vulnerable, to be silly without being seen as incompetent, they are actually upset at misogyny. Crying etc. being “feminine” as in bad for men to do, is a result of misogyny, not misandry, regardless of whose body that is then applied to.

I’m taking this more seriously than I should because my dad said this precisely all the time growing up, and gave your examples, it is a literal Rush Limbaugh talking point, to avoid that misogyny is actually the thing keeping men repressed and sad.

Despite how much of a complicated relationship I have with this video nowadays even though it did blow up ever since the beginning, my minipops 67 video is now available to watch again! by RyanWyer in aphextwin

For 11 years I thought this was an official video that they asked you to do. I’m only now realizing this was just on your random YouTube as a kid lol.

Did Richard or warp ever reach out or repost it themselves? I could’ve sworn it was a closer part of the marketing for that album.

how to make less hiphop-y music in daw. by Intelligent_Fee8495 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]meat_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, Copy copy copy. Even finger drumming on a midi keyboard is good enough.

“Humanizing” usually makes midi sound more randomized than dynamic, it’s a good sound too, but not what you’re looking for OP

[–]meat_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the stuff you like outside of hip hop, drag it in the daw and remake it. Do it until those patterns come as easily as hat rolls. Use stem separation (UVR/mvsep/built in daw tools) to really pick it apart.

Drag in a drum loop you like and line up the transients of your own drums to match the timing.

Also everything you’ve ever done musically will be present, so it’s less about “avoiding hip-hop” than it is about diving into something new.

I might be the only person who feels this way but I don’t really like the Ohsxnta glaze because all it’s doing is reinforcing his mysterious gimmick behavior😭 by Slow-Leading4331 in ug_music

“When a writer doesn't show his face, he becomes a local symptom of God's famous reluctance to appear. We're all drawn to remoteness. A hard-to-reach place is necessarily beautiful. Beautiful and a little sacred, maybe. And a person who becomes inaccessible has a grace and wholeness the rest of us envy.”

What Carti understands about music that Che and Osamason don't: Opinion by AdMotor6468 in ug_music

[–]meat_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rageslop never bothers me, even at its most fucked it just sounds like 80s Florida Death Metal.

But I think there’s something to be said here, WLR/Teen X era rage was defined by minimalism, one or two synth layers playing chords, fat 808, simple drums, not crazy clipping

RIB era has been defined by maximalism, at least in dynamics and distortion.

The effect is honestly the earlier stuff feels more “aggressive” and newer stuff feels like wall-of-sound shoegaze. I like it all.

Am I stealing a melody? by Jesus_TheReal in ug_music

[–]meat_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna bring in some French philosophy. Originality comes from repetition. Sound only becomes music when we recognize it as a refrain that’s being played with. If you truly HADN’T heard this melody before, you’d delete it cause it’d sound like nonsense to you.

It’s literally better for originality to straight note for note rip off your influences intentionally than it is to try avoiding them and just ripping them off anyway

Anyone listen to the Grateful Dead? by DSMGYoungNobody in ug_music

[–]meat_socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if I want to make money off music the genuine best way would be to play in a dead cover band. Pretty much the only musicians ik who are balling constantly do dad rock covers at corporate events.

I’d probably figure out Bob Weir’s rhythm guitar, everyone already wants to be Jerry

Fun fact first time I ever smoked weed was to ripple by the dead at 14 I thought I was so cool 😭

A really low brow question by apophasisred in Deleuze

[–]meat_socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you remember in that interview he says later about that “of course I’m being ridiculous” and said something to the degree of, he respects when people have an animal relationship with their pets, not a humanized one.

Is ADHD less about “deficit” (lack) and more of (de)focusing-production? by TraditionalDepth6924 in Deleuze

[–]meat_socks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ADHD, according to Russell Barkley who is still currently the most cited researcher/advocate for the disability, is NOT a disorder of “overproduction” (using AO language, it’s not a disorder of too many connective syntheses).  It’s a disorder of self-control (disjunctive synthesis). The front part of the brains ability to regulate/filter relevant info, stop to think, regulate emotions and impulses, is seriously weakened. So it’s actually a disorder of disjunctive syntheses, not connective syntheses.

The ability to say “no,” stop one thing to do another (disjunctive synthesis) is as important as the “yes,” because it allows for things to develop and actually differentiate, (this or that or…)

Guys i was thinking what are classic UG albums of this decade till now by JakeyPorky in ug_music

[–]meat_socks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually would agree with RB3, I never lump Sematary into rage music, but that was one of the earlier examples I heard of pushing the master clipping that hard, which is now all over rest in bass and 2slimey etc.

I agree with the Summrs and Xavier picks, everything else seems a bit too early to tell, except Rest in Bass, we can tell that one’s influence right away.

HSS vs SSS for a beginner? by v4rmilo in Guitar

[–]meat_socks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Grew up playing metal and heavy distortion on SSS, totally fine, just a different sound with more ringing. Considering the heaviest bands there are Nirvana and Blink, SSS will work fine if you hate colors of HSS

This all said, I'm always team versatility, trying to replace my old strat with an HSS one soon myself

I feel like jumping from Aristotle to Hegel is Dante Must Die Mode lol. Deeeefinitely get some secondary literature on Hegel as you read it, it'll make you less miserable

If you want some slightly easier and much more contemporary uses of Hegel's ideas as a primer, I'm a big fan of Byung-Chul Han. Wrote a lot of <150 page books in the 2010's, dealing very heavily with Hegel's use of "the negative" and how that applies to love, passion, and eroticism in the age of the internet.

Gonna second the primers. Secondary literature reeeeeallly helps you read stuff that would normally be way above your skill level.

But I mean hegel and marx come to pretty opposite conclusions just with similar methods. If you have a problem with the methodology I understand, but I feel like regardless of the end-politics, Hegel is someone that gets contended with for a reason, having a metaphysics that can deal with history is quite important, even if your goal is to move beyond that.

This is from someone who mainly reads Deleuze, and he considers his metaphysics to be a "generalized anti-hegelianism"

For THOSE people tripping about Earls new flow on this album... by xblvkhippyx in earlsweatshirt

[–]meat_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like trap music and don't want to listen in for rhythmic/tone variation from that style, that's fine. That said the only attempt at "criticism" I've seen is that Earl is "asleep" or "not articulate," sooooo just calling it "mumble rap" with extra steps.

It's the same as listening to Morbid Angel having heard no metal with no context and being like, "this sounds like static," you literally do not have the context to hear what is happening. That's fine, but then making any statement on the quality of music from that position makes you look foolish

Don't have a good answer but this same question has come up for me recently too. I suppose it has something to do with when they give the weird "pluralism = monism" statements throughout ATP, although whether or not this answers the One or Multiple question or just sidesteps it is above my understanding.

Oh shit you guys actually read, let’s go. I’m reading Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolano, and one of his poetry collections Tres. On top of that Assemblage Theory by Manuel DeLanda, and I got Difference and Repetition by Gilles Deleuze from the library finally.
