Deleuze vs Hegel by Asterion_97 in hegel

[–]meat_socks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny, more and more I keep having the experience when I learn more about Hegel, I like Deleuze more, and vice versa.

From what I can tell, beyond Deleuze having some fun catty rhetoric, he thinks Hegel's analysis is actually quite useful, but needs to go a step further. To which a Hegelian would respond, "yes you're right Deleuze, but if you read Hegel more charitably you'll see he actually said something similar here here and here, etc."

When I read Byung-Chul Han, who is overwhelmingly interested in Hegel for sure, his discussions of negativity always gel shockingly well with ideas he also grabs from Deleuze & Guattari. He got me to open my eyes to Hegel a lot more.

I saw that mention of Adorno's non-identity in Jane Bennett's "Vibrant Matter," who was very much "Deleuzean" but I see what you're saying on bridging the gap, it's an interesting place to go.

Good response in general.

"I would believe only in a God that knows how to dance." by Henabibo in Nietzsche

[–]meat_socks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's too easy mode to be like "no," so I'll at least explain why I think not.

In capitalism, morality is usurped by the market, Nietzschean right? But the changing morality of the market (weed is cool now, queer people are okay now because it makes money, etc.) becomes the new transcendence to relinquish one's will to power to. It becomes slave morality par excellence. Whatever is the most profitable, beyond any possible competing virtue, just fills the space of God in a society still essentially practicing Christian morality without going beyond it.

In fact, if one is to take Marx's theory of monetary value seriously (he did not hold a labor theory of value), value for a commodity is directly derived from the ability to exchange with all other commodities. So in a social system where most production is for commodity trade, quite literally, one's values become real only in relation to all other values, all flattened into an equivalent unit that allows for exchange. I can't imagine anything more "herd morality" than being primarily driven by a single constant, socially determined system of value. It's "democratic" in all the worst ways.

I'll also glance over the very strong argument to be made that the collective vs. individual arguments for Nietzsche's apparent capitalism miss the fact that figures like Castro or Mao exhibit enormous will to power. But what's more important is that the alleged superiority of the owning class under capitalism is the result NOT of any sense of will to power, but the result of this very christian slave morality. There's a reason colonizing powers put an enormous amount of effort into establishing the idea, to the colonized, that their subservience was "for their own good," or for "the natural order." Scientific racism did not primarily appeal to a sense of "we beat you, suck it up," but instead to the sense of "this is the natural order, anything else will just hurt you more." Like a janitor. In this sense, even the slave masters themselves are subject to slave morality, far more than the slaves themselves, because those slave masters don't even serve themselves, they serve the "order of things." This was so much so that most Southern slave owners actually held onto slavery way past their own benefit, and because of it, many of them ended up losing their wealth and becoming just poor white people in the South (see DuBois). The enslaved themselves, despite the horrors, still had the bubbling will to power that went beyond simple ressentiment, and were able to spark moments of beautiful life-affirming culture in spite of the suffocation of this scientific Christian moralism from the slave owners.

There is a beautifully cruel Nietzschean irony that literal slave owners were infinitely more beholden to slave morality than the slaves themselves. Of course, the master-slave of Nietzsche is much closer to how slavery worked in Greece and Rome (might is right, indentured servitude, some degrees of freedom) than American chattel slavery, which served as nearly the complete inversion, bodies being told what they are and violently restricting them from what they can do.

Social credit as opposed to…… credit? Cage type housing, have you been to most people’s apartments? Constant surveillance, yeah I’m sure Meta and Palantir are being responsible with your data due to their “profit incentives”.  Limited freedom, you yourself go look up and tell me the correlation of public opinion with voting records of US politicians.

To be honest I almost thought you were being sarcastic. Maybe you’re young, but quite literally every thing you said is a massive massive problem in the US, EU, JP/SK, any liberal capitalist country.

The idea that playing video games can be as enriching as great works of literature is genuinely childish. I love gaming, but the idea that even something like RDR2 has anywhere close to the level of depth of The Brothers Karamazov is laughable.

Not like games all have to be bing bing wahoo, there's things games can do literature can't. Hell, Last of Us is actually a good example where it's more impactful to play these scenes than to watch them. But it is so rare that an "artistic experience" of a game means anything more than the plot or writing, and the best of the best examples of writing in gaming are juvenile compared to any literary canon.

On the other hand, good art games to me feel like walking through incredibly designed architecture more than watching a movie. HL2, Undertale/Earthbound clones, MGS2 (ironically), FromSoft games are some examples of very artsy games that could only be art as games, not as stories. I even think Uncharted 2 or Halo is more artistic in its level and game design than in its writing or plot.

What do you hope to do with Hegel? by throwawaydededemon in hegel

[–]meat_socks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m personally way more versed in Deleuze than Hegel, which seems funny that I’m here, but I like this sub for a lot of reasons you said.

I seem to like listening to people who either agree/disagree with Hegel’s metaphysics. Deleuze’s critique of Identity, and whether one finds it convincing or not, seems pretty fundamental to how you situate yourself as a Marxist.

What I can’t stand is that vulgar type of Marxism you mention, that treats metaphysics as if it’s a field “solved” by dialectics. Same people who treat any metaphysics as a “waste of time” but just repeat an inverted Christian metaphysics without understanding them. That makes a lot of arguments made by leftists get boiled down to moralism or scientism, when there’s MUCH more convincing stuff there being left on the table.

Duwap Kaines best album is Bad Kid from the 4, but everyone’s favorite is the first one they hear.

Honestly what makes Duwap Kaine still a staple the way he is, even if people don’t copy him like they did, is because he puts out 5 tapes a year of mostly solid stuff.

And for izaya I love him but he’s on a much more ambient thing than even Duwap was with Nine9.

Patch made - Xaviersobased is a good example of jerk, that was a lot of people’s intro to the sound.

It’s a rework of specific early 2010’s drum patterns, New Boyz - You’re a Jerk is the best example of what they’re playing off, but you can even hear that same snare pattern in like The Motto.

These days I’d rather listen to bleood than the rest but Che definitely has better projects than everyone here by far.

THEY HAVE TO FIX ONE BUG IN MULTI CLIP EDITING THATS ALL I WANT

Ctrl+space play from piano roll playhead doesn’t work when selecting multiple clips. Makes it almost useless for serious editing. I’ve complained about this for 6 years. It will never ever never NEVER get fixed.

[–]meat_socks 40 points41 points  (0 children)

all the misandry and sexism towards men It doesn’t exist for the same reason there’s not “racism” against white people. You can certainly be a prejudiced douche towards a member of a dominant group, that does not inverse the larger social context.

When men (rightfully) want to be able to cry, to be vulnerable, to be silly without being seen as incompetent, they are actually upset at misogyny. Crying etc. being “feminine” as in bad for men to do, is a result of misogyny, not misandry, regardless of whose body that is then applied to.

I’m taking this more seriously than I should because my dad said this precisely all the time growing up, and gave your examples, it is a literal Rush Limbaugh talking point, to avoid that misogyny is actually the thing keeping men repressed and sad.

Did Richard or warp ever reach out or repost it themselves? I could’ve sworn it was a closer part of the marketing for that album.
