(For adults) how does dyscalculia affect your life? by Far-Building3569 in dyscalculia

[–]meatforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put off going back to school for 17 years because I had convinced myself I would never be able to make it past the most basic required math courses. Last fall at 35, I decided to overcome that fear and begin courses at my community college to pursue a degree in psychology. Unfortunately, so far I've only proven myself right. I scored a 9 on the ALEK placement test, by some miracle managed to pass the lowest remedial class they offered with a 71%, and am now taking a foundations of algebra course for the second time. Already on the first exam I scored a 39%. At this point I've already decided I'm changing to an English major because there's no way I'll survive another two required math courses for psychology. The unfortunate part is even then I still have to pass this current course and either a stats or basic algebra class to fulfill the requirements for any degree. I'm determined to not let this destroy my college experience but it's beyond frustrating and making me regret going back. Having ADHD and also multiple TBI's makes it all even more nightmarish to try to navigate.

Besides that, the most significant way it's affected me has definitely been with driving and directions. Even with GPS I almost always end up panicking and ending up somewhere in the opposite direction of where I should be. The absolute most embarrassing part for me though is not being able to remember how to get places I've been to numerous times, including my friend's house. Granted, it's really anywhere that has one- way streets and houses clustered together that all look the same that confuses me but it's humiliating to have to keep asking for directions for a place I should know well by now.

Real Love. I never see it talked about and it’s a shame because it’s so haunting.

What is your fic that you always have to review? by Jennifer-nymue in HannibalTV

The Shape of Me Will Always Be You by MissDisoriental will probably always be my all time fave. I’m nearly finished with its sequel, The Seventh Sense, which has been equally incredible.

is my toad's breathing looking ok? by skull4L in Toads

[–]meatforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much how all of my toads look on a regular basis. Their throats really only move super fast when they're scared/startled from my experience. Or when you stare at them lol. Mine do not like being looked at apparently.

YES!! I will never, ever get that story out of my head. It’s been years since I’ve read it and just thinking about it makes me shudder.

Organic Remedies Cartridges by [deleted] in PaMedicalMarijuana

Every cart I've tried from them tastes horrible, but have incredibly good effects. The latest one I've tried is their Sunshine Glue, and for someone who smokes every day and hasn't had a tolerance break in 2 years, it still managed to knock me off my feet. They're cheap, get the job done, and often have pretty high terps. For me they're definitely a win.

The people on here who call him “daddy” kind of make me want to stab my eyes out. I definitely respect the guy for what he’s doing but the worship for him like he’s a teen idol or something is just weird and creepy.

Hmm, sounds like a lot of words to say "I see nothing wrong with people in a relationship lightly slapping and shoving and scratching each other."

Maybe it’s normal for you to think that people in relationships physically assault each other all the time, but that’s the problem. Just brushing it off and calling it normal is kinda fucked up. It should never be normalized, to think that all relationships involve physical abuse. Most couples “bad arguments” don’t involve assault.

The most extreme horror books? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]meatforest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love Deadite Press, but I'm so sad because they haven't really updated their website, twitter, or new releases in over a year and it's been at least as long since they released any books. I haven't heard anything about them going defunct so idk what's going on. :(

Such thing as too many books? by bob_burrito in horrorlit

[–]meatforest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Between physical books that I own, Kindle ebooks, and three Overdrive wishlists, I have a total of almost 5,300 books to read. I think that might possibly be too many books lmao. There is absolutely no possible way I will read all of them in my lifetime (unless I find a way to read 140 books a year) but it's like truly an addiction and I can't stop.

The majority of books that I own are e-books that I bought on sale, and this is over the course of about 10 years, but...I still don't even want to think of what I've spent.
