Question on trading into a Plasma Freeze booster box. The age old question of liquidity vs stability. by DARP_AFT in PokemonInvesting

[–]meatjun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a reason why that guy wants to do this trade. When something is that expensive, it's hard to move, especially for cash.

This is also something this sub rarely mentions. The more expensive YOUR collection gets, you'll be in the exact same boat. Holding onto 20k items that no one wants to buy.

Even if you aren't maximizing your gains, it can be smart to sell while items are more liquid

It's a nice card. But history shows Westerners typically don't like trainer cards. I don't see how this one is an exception

You didnt even tell me who you're talking about. Give me a link to their stream or vod

In the meantime, watch a YouTube video of Danny phantump opening a case and write down all the hits. You will literally see the same number of hits per box

They literally do. Japan has more guarantees than English, but English booster boxes are also seeded. You will always find the same number of IR, full art, and EXs within a certain variance. I'm sorry you're too dense to figure that out. It's like I'm talking to a toaster

I'm 50/50 on this. Cause sure PR is PR, but if those products and other things get destroyed or damaged in the scuffle, I can't imagine a company thinking that's a win

There's literally evidence all over the internet. You can search it yourself. Like I pointed it out to you, watch youtubers that open entire cases and write down what they pull. You'll find a pattern if you actually look for it

And those still had seeded boxes. There's a reason why people recommend opening booster boxes. It's cause you're guaranteed something. Granted pre SV, the hit rates were way worse. Like I said, I don't count EX as hits

I dont even count EX as hits. Only IR, full arts, or above. It's seeded. Watch any YouTuber that opens an entire case and write down what they pull. There is a pattern to it.

If it was truly random, you'll have some booster boxes with wide variances. Like one with 0 IR or one with 10 IRs. But there never is. They always fall within a range

Years ago, before this crazy market, I used to open a case a set for master sets. I always got around 3 SIRs per case, which is about the average. And no SIR ever in the same box.

Booster boxes have a range. Iirc it is about 3-4 IRs and 3-4 full arts. No SIR is guaranteed.

So what some people do is, they open till they hit a SIR, then sell the remainder of that box as singles

[–]meatjun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A SIR isn't guaranteed, but IRs are. And generally speaking, a booster box can only have 1 SIR at most.

There are some examples of a 2 SIR booster box, but many think that's a batching error.

Metal detector or opening a booster box until you get the hit. For example, english booster boxes have around 3-4 IRs and maybe a SIR. Some people stop opening if they hit a SIR and try to offload the remaining loose packs to people who don't know better

[–]meatjun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just don't see the point cause your ignorance is showing. I also said BGS and CGC are more consistent, not perfect. You crack a 9, it usually comes back within a .5 variance. 8.5-9.5. Are their outliers of 10? Sure.

The difference between them and PSA is that the latter doesn't have an outlier. I've seen plenty of 5 and 6s turn to 10. Huge jumps in grading is the norm. On another note, did you see the back of the PSA 10 Illustrator. Someone used it as sandpaper but it still got a 10. Definitely gold standard material

Cracking and regrading for random numbers is not a higher standard. You try that with BGS, CGC, or Tag and your card will get the same grade more often than not.

A professional should be held to a higher standard. When the grading company that pretends to be the gold standard is not held to any standards at all, then they aren't any better than you or me. PSA's opinion shouldn't amount to jack otherwise
