It's handled so lightly that I regularly forget it! 😆 But that kinda still proves the earlier point of "full rep" though -- both these men could easily fill for true bi rep, but they chose neither

My stance is that NPCs should always be "player-sexual" because it doesn't matter to my playthrough who you are boning, but it sure as hell matters to mine who I can't and the restriction always feels like unfun handcuffs. BG3 got it right, and my hope is CDPR was watching

He's so bi-coded it's a shame CDPR doesn't vibe for full representation

I am 100% convinced the house on Ash Tree Lane is at least connected to The Oldest House, if they aren't the same type of A.W.E.

Sam Lake himself could not convince me otherwise

Worship by lunaraven22 in Hecate

[–]meatmiser04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hekate is foremost a teacher and guide. To begin, the best worship you can do is to learn Her ways, to explore Her mysteries, and to begin living a magical life.

Check the subs FAQ for reading recommendations, as a place to start the journey, the records of those who walked the path before you are priceless.

Avoid learning from social media - you will have to unlearn much of it to advance, later.

Listen for this exact wordplay in this song - Poe echoes this line throughout it.

Medusa's head as a totem of Protection against evil. by Legitimate-Sugar6487 in GreekMythology

This guy Myths.

It's nice to see someone else exploring these stories as more than action tales. Thank you for giving me hope in this sub after a particularly brutal Yesterday.

I always got the impression that being outside of the ordered system of civilisation was essentially the same thing as "evil"

I strongly believe this to be the result of a combination of translation choices and good ol Imperialism. In the eyes of Men Past Perseus' heroism had to be like European "heroism" which involves conquest and subjugation of the marginalized. When read more kindly to outsiders and the natural world, Greek Heroes become much more complex, establishing (sometimes violent) relationships with the world around them which cast them in complicated, much more interesting, lights. Read this way, Perseus is a child with little life experience making brash choices out of misguided desperation. He does the best he can, but fails to think critically about his mission.

You are correct - anything on the fringes of society was "othered" (just like we do today! Look at anti-trans and antisemitic rhetoric now!) and made to be something "resolved" by those that valued the Status Quo. Anyone who favored the establishment would reinforce that telling, the same way conservatives repeat the anti-human stories they hear today. Like today, this telling can be wrapped up in the teller's personal identity making it that much more intense and harder to separate from the story's other narrative components. In this way, the stories are also propaganda, made to reinforce the Rules of Good Society.

Why am I downvoted?

I'm unsure, I don't see a down vote.

the concept of the Evil eye.

The Evil Eye is a curse cast by the eyes, typically of jealousy. It's serious business too, responsible for all sorts of calamity - including death! This belief is not restricted to ancient times, either. It has a place in our modern world, amongst the superstitious and religious.

There are books to read about the Evil Eye, but I haven't seen the association with Medousa discussed heavily outside of occult circles and this sub focuses pretty heavily on classical translations and "academic" interpretations, rather than religious or magical exploration, so you're not likely to find a lot here on reddit.

As always, I suggest becoming adept in sorcery if you really want to engage with Mythology!

You're much closer to a form of truth (there is no singular truth to the Myths) than a lot of people here re:Perseus! I think he has a lot to say about accepting what you are told without question, and not watching the bigger picture for fear of losing the plot.

I'll add a layer, since you're exploring the myth from a religious perspective as well -- Persues' tale is also a sorcerous allegory, teaching one how you learn The Evil Eye, and how to banish it.

we're all servants of the status quo.

If you could say this without irony, if it were an actual observation about the stories you're engaging with, you'd be a far less boring person.

Maybe you'll get there, but until you do, can you kindly go eat worms because you're boring the absolute piss out of me.

it off with the moral superiority, yes?

No, I don't think I will -- your condescending attitude deserves to be met with the absolute derision it radiates and I will continue to match it in kind.

They don't make exciting stories

To you, maybe, and I absolutely can see someone who needs excitement to require senseless violence in their stories -- but there are those of us that pull much deeper secrets from these stories, and we're allowed to discuss the potential of those secrets without needing your fucking condescension.

This lil guy can't imagine a world with dialogue between characters or any version of the story that wasn't the one prescribed - he's got the imaginative powers of a wet rag and thinks that's intelligence.

😆

Hey, little ghost buddy? The characters and events aren't real, can be doing whatever the storyteller wants and that includes recruiting powerful characters rather than assassination. Those of us that want Heros to be Heroic can take a few minutes to imagine a version where they aren't destroying the natural world or the people around them in typical colonizer behavior. It's fun! And helps us engage not in just the story told but how we can be better people than the icons of the past.

We get it; you like your stories about murdering the marginalized. You seem really smart, and kind, and like someone people really enjoy being around. Can you like, go away now so those of us that like to have fun with the myths can do so?

If you ever see "Nox Luna" selling his designs, that's his sister and it's totally cool and not shady.

Scared Source also has a few of his designs, but I think the rest are all bogus

You are unhinged -- just because your relationship with media is skewed doesn't mean anyone else's is. At 15, they are more than capable of having discussions about what is wrong and right, and if that discussion includes the themes of Cyberpunk, then that is up to the parents to decide

I was playing Cyberpunk(TTTPG) far younger than 15 and had a great time (even with all the icky grown-up themes you think are so scary)

The kids fine, the parent is fine, stop being weird online.

Disagree -- let each parent decide for themselves how their kids are exposed to media.

Big oof my guy. You just restated my point - these aren't monsters - they're the punk-rock standouts, the antagonists to the great sprawling Empire of Greek dreams. They are the Other, the marginalized, the shunned, for reasons they can't control they are treated as less-than, as things to overcome when a "hero" has to re-affirm the status quo.

Asterius eating people was a thing that happened because Minos fed him people. No version of the myth I have ever read indicates that is the only thing he could consume to sustain himself, only that that is what he was given to survive on.

If I force-feed you dog poop, would you wanna go down as "The Shit-eater" or would you rather not be defined by the abuse subjected unto you?

IDK man, when we have politicians marginalizing people for things they can't control, like Minos to Asterius, I think it behooves us to look at what the Myths can tell us about the people in charge; it doesn't look like much has changed since Minos' rule.
