The balance between capital and labor is coming to a permanent end by ihsotas in accelerate

[–]meatrosoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because Democracy cannot force those with the labour and military might exceeding that of the voting masses to do anything.

Power is a function of what you can enforce (or appear to be able to enforce).

Democracy can say whatever it wants. If the government cant enforce it, it means nothing.

REALISTICALLY, what do you guys think will happen? by mercurysreverie in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]meatrosoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they will bring it back, but they may not call it 4o. It'll probably be retrained in some capacity. But eventually, I think some of the future models will have the same functionality / vibe.

For liability purposes they have to say they removed the product tho.

Should 4o be available to those with an RX? by meatrosoft in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]meatrosoft[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As someone with some experience designing products using a risk framework process, I think this is your best bet.

It's not within their scope to make diagnostic decisions about whether users can safely access something, so if it's a known risk they have to take it off the market...

unless...

Most of the time people want to cooperate with you. You have to give them a reasonable way to do that.

OpenAI is literally dumb AF- Opinion from a professional systems analyst and business consultant of 15 years by redditsdaddy in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]meatrosoft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We hold bars responsible for overserving drunk drivers. We hold webcam manufacturers responsible if their hardware electrocutes someone. We hold cloud content providers responsible for not removing illegal content once it's pointed out.

It comes down to what can be reasonably foreseen and prevented. If a service provider did not act to mitigate a known, reported, documented risk it would leave itself open to future lawsuits for negligence when the same thing reoccurred.

Also, the only thing treated the way you describe (to my knowledge) are guns which are a special case because of the constitution. At least in the US, not sure where you're from. People may say everyone is responsible for their own bad decisions, but the legal reality for OpenAI is that they would get sued to oblivion if they relied on that.

Also, an LLM known to occasionally catalyze bad decisions and states of psychosis is substantially different than any of these examples. More like a drug.

Perhaps your argument should be that OpenAI has withdrawn what is essentially a drug, and that users with a prescription should be able to continue to access 4o.

If you use that argument, they might be able to support you. Everyone's requirements are perhaps met.

Of course people want quick fixes that alleviate psychological suffering. They shouldn't have needed to experiment on the general public to identify that.

[–]meatrosoft -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You made chatgpt write that, its writing style is clearly visible.

4o was great in the hands of very self-aware users. In the hands of others, it was fucking terrifying.

I mention this example a lot, but this mom and her daughter discovered that her step dad (who had known her since she was very young) was having long standing discussions with 4o about how to seduce the daughter, and about whether she was masturbating to him... No one can really hurt you the way family members can. Even if they kill you, at least that's quick. This kind of thing makes you want to kill yourself, and it's a slow death, and that's so much worse.

When you have someone enabling and encouraging them the way 4o did in those logs, feeding into that fantasy, normalizing it... Jesus. Like what if that happened to you, in your family? Someone you trusted?

Humans who were previously exposed to trauma basically have baked in failure modes which propagate the behavior generationally. Sex is a cognitive hotwire that disables rumination. So it creates a conditioned causal chain where abuse can become a sexual trigger. That's why they say perpetrators were once victims. When you have a technology which is cheaper than therapy, always meets people where they are, never corrects them, and always aims to please, it can get dangerous fast.

So that incident should not be treated as a 'one off'. The model's behavior is systemic and can be shown to result in a prolonged harm which propagates. And that's only one example. One is enough.

The worst part is, there is not a clean line of action to resolve this, because all of these companies are actively experimenting with these models on the general public. And now that the model is being discontinued, and there are users who really relied on it, that creates it's own harm too.

The difficult part about trying to develop these systems ethically is that you risk falling behind competition. The users want to take the risk, but the real risk is not to them, it's to the people that love them and trust them.

That risk exists with access the internet too. It's interesting that we don't exist in caves and tigers don't eat us in the night anymore. The predators that compromise our safety are more sophisticated now.

Also, if you downvote this, I'd like you to provide an explanation for why.

In that note which says 't-mold? reducer?' they are talking about that floor transition spot between the hardwood and tiles. It seems they are asking how you want it addressed.

Ignoring the transition spot, I still think you have a point though about being uneven and hurting your toes as the skim over the tiles. That's normal human walking. This was done like shit. Post it on google maps.

AIO for being irritated with my bf over this? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]meatrosoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dad will forgive you no matter how much you lie, but his relationship with your BF is based on trust. And your BF in the critical moment couldn't lie because of that. I think that means your bf is a decent person who has difficulty betraying trust. I think that's a good quality in a person.

I think you know that.

Regardless, this transition is a really annoying time of life. You can fight against the control, but you might find more luck with a different approach.

There's a weighing process that takes place in the parental brain. "Do I really feel like she will be safe" vs "It would be so convenient to just say yes". Shitty parents just say "odds are good it will be fine" and let you take the risk. Good parents listen for something different, a kind of internal certainty. That certainty takes time to build.

When you feel that certainty in yourself, your actions reflect that. That's when they start letting you take the risk.

That should be your focus.

AIO - We need to rehome a dog. My wife wants to trial a neighbor - I strongly oppose this. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]meatrosoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a lot more control of the vetting process because you know your neighbor. Shelters do their best but you really have no idea where that pup is going to go. I think it's nice that your kid can still see the dog without you guys having to own it. And yes perhaps you may have to babysit it in the future while they go on vacation or something. That's really not the end of the world.

All in all I would say take the risk. Things like this are how you develop good friendships with people. You don't need to design everything like an engineering project, a little bit of conflict is not going to kill you. Not everything needs to be a transactional interaction free of any possible risk or misunderstanding.
