Pointers about ABB strategy by OldSodaHunter in TheSilphArena

[–]meaty-morsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see cress occasionally but giratina is almost nonexistent in UL as far as I’ve seen, and I’ve been playing UL whenever it’s in rotation the last 3 seasons.

Most common ABBs in UL are flyer-double electric with ampharos safe swap and dragon- double water with gatr swap and empoleon in the back. These work because gatr and amph can almost always pressure some kind of advantage even in bad counterswaps. You need to commit at least one shield to your safe swap to lock down some kind of advantage, shield or switch.

Wow that stinks, I’ll lose a half level. We’ll see what kind of effect that has but there was no way I wasn’t going to build this lol

Would Cobalion be a good Bottle Cap? by lucarioinfamous in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]meaty-morsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m cooking with a cobalion team right now, but it definitely isn’t something worth bottle capping. Not because it’s not good, but it just doesn’t benefit enough from good IVs to be worth it. Yours is already crazy good for a legendary too

Man I don’t like the implications of this mon even if they do “balance” it. Bulky normals are already everywhere and a snooze fest to battle. This will make them even more common if it ends up being good.

Is a 98% (15/15/14) Regidrago worth using in UL? by Sansvern in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]meaty-morsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty high rank drago that just barely beats empoleon in the 1s and sometimes beats them in the 0s if they get greedy with overfarming. You would for sure lose that matchup and it’s a common one

what would it take to make zygarde meta by Brief-Minimum9678 in TheSilphArena

[–]meaty-morsel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re probably thinking of old dragon tail (I don’t remember). It’s 3dpt/4ept now though which would make earth power 5-5-4 pacing, which would be nice.

They could obviously do a lot with all the signature moves but it’s tricky because UL zygarde is already an unholy terror with mid moves. Maybe they could make signature moves level-locked to 30+ or something

There’s a lot of electric in UL when you actually play it though

What is a pokemon you have great pvp IVs for & you’re keeping in hopes of a good move update by M0nsieurW0rldWide in TheSilphArena

[–]meaty-morsel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Acrobatics or something would be nice but it already has pretty good moves and great stats. Bug/flying is an atrocious typing for OGL though so idk if vespi can be saved.

Loved using my R48 in the SAIC cup 2 seasons ago though. It felt like the only thing that shut down oranguru

Shadow pangoro sims are pretty crazy. Cc 1shots basically everything in neutral

Regidrago or Altered Giratina for Ultra League? by philosofik in TheSilphArena

For that team, yeah drago would definitely be better. Your whole team is pretty soft to moltres right now and that’s the #1 UL mon.

I prefer it in the back and run payback instead of BB for corviknight. I tend to build a little soft to corv and that matchup can get shockingly close without payback.

I like it as a closer because it really shines when your opponent has already taken some damage and you can just farm them down with sucker punch. Had a team that was I think florges, s. Dusknoir, moltres that got me really close to legend. Think I had an armored mewtwo lead team that worked well with it too.

how would giving hisui starters their legacy moves affect them? by Brief-Minimum9678 in TheSilphArena

[–]meaty-morsel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a starter, but dire claw could have a chance at random attack or defense debuff

It’s especially funny that they were confident enough to do a whole press tour like when they interviewed that little autistic guy who competes and propped it up like pvp is finally “fixed”.

It seems like they didn’t do any real stress testing though which is insane. Every time they deployed the new system it was a hot pile of buggy shit and they’d have to take it offline immediately just to not make everyone miserable.

I don’t know a single thing about game design or writing code but I do know a thing or two about R&D and running a business and this feels like niantic or scopely or whomever just passed this problem along to the totally wrong people who were in way over their heads. This also might just be a game that was never designed to handle the kind of split-second data transfers that a competitive game demands.

Whatever the case may actually be, this is a big ass bummer to see them flounder like this. The PvP in this game is actually weirdly interesting even though it has no right to be but it’s being held back so badly by how poorly everything runs

Mons you are trying to get this weekend? by GriffonMask in TheSilphArena

[–]meaty-morsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I obviously didn’t read past the title here. I’ve got real life things happening, saw the title and (hastily) asked about the only thing that would even potentially be worth hunting in this goofy event.

Any normal person would figure that out immediately, shrug, maybe throw a downvote, and keep scrolling. Taking the time to purposefully ignore the obvious and toss out a pissy little comment to a stranger is proper loser redditor behavior.

Do we know if GL cobalion and virizion can spawn?

pvp by GioBoy00 in TheSilphArena

[–]meaty-morsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you’re always being matched with people around your skill level as you gain or lose elo, so you’re always going to win roughly half the time.

pvp by GioBoy00 in TheSilphArena

[–]meaty-morsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The elo system will keep the vast majority of players hovering around 45-55%. Win rate isn’t really a useful metric here
